  1. Hey Brit! Congrats!!! No, I can't post the link on here since AllNurses doesn't allow it. I will private message you the link!
  2. Jess- you're welcome!! Oh! I forgot about that! Yes - I will need to get a new wardrobe and how to "layer" clothes (yikes!). I don't know what it's like to live without flip-flops... I just made a FB group for us, the summer 2011 cohort! Just search for "Rush university GEM Nursing 2011" and it should come up. Join up and I'll accept you guys in. I don't think AllNurses will let me post links so just type it in the search bar in FB!
  3. Jess217 - Congrats to you too!! No, I haven't found housing but I found a realtor! I'm hoping to find something decently priced as well. If you're interested, I can also give you info for the realtor I have, she was referred to me by previous Rush student. Would creating a group on FB help us Summer 2011 cohorts communicate better with each other? Let me know if anyone would be interested! Whole Life- thanks for the advice! I haven't had any luck on Craigslist, plus it gives me the creeps. I will certainly check this place out! Best of luck:)
  4. Congratulation Sunshine(again!) and lilred! I've been looking around frantically for a place (because I'm super excited...) but I'm not having any luck. A lot of my friends are warning me about certain parts of downtown and how tricky it is. I'm definitely not signing anything until I visit the area/place in person! How about you guys? Anyone thinking about looking for a roommate? Natina - I feel like I had a very well-rounded background. I feel like the interview was a big part of the admission process. I had such an amazing interview and the interviewer I had was so nice...just be genuine and yourself. Have stellar grades, volunteer in your community, and know why you want to be a nurse...and you'll be fine!
  5. Congrats all who got in! I got wait-listed at UVA but I got into the GEM program at Rush University Medical Center. I'm set and thrilled with going to Rush University, and I wish everyone the best at UVA and their future endeavors!!
  6. Hello, I just found out I got accepted for the GEM (BSN/MSN) program at Rush University for the Summer 2011 cohort! Is there anyone else out there who got in?? I'd figure it would be nice to have some people to talk to about apartment hunting and whatnot. I'm super excited!!!!
  7. Hi Meg!! I've been feeling the same too all week. It has been hard not to think about it!!! Do you guys think they'll put up decisions at 12:01AM this Saturday or in the afternoon? lol I may end up staying up until I go to work in the morning I haven't heard back from the other schools I applied to get. I don't think they announce decisions until March!?!?
  8. 3v3r5 - No kidding! Nervous breakdown here too for sure ...We'll soon know our fate! I just visited UVA and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The town itself is neat, and the trolley/transportation system there is so helpful! I guess the trip just made me even more nervous to hopefully hear good news! Good luck all! See ya on the 15th...
  9. rn'ti4uva - Thanks for the reply! Finally over with the semester and it was a crucial semester since I took a majority of my pre-reqs! I'm happy with my grades, it gave me a GPA boost to 3.5! Just wish I could've got those grades in before they started reviewing! :-D I'm actually taking a roadtrip soon this month to Washington D.C./Maryland. I'm thinking about stopping UVA and visiting there. Would you happen to know if the school will be open? Or are they already "closed" for winter break? I was thinking of taking a tour of UVA. Would you happen to know if the nursing school would give me a tour or if it would be a good idea to visit and introduce myself there too? MrDave- I give you a lot of credit to do such a big career change! I'm a neuroscience major and have been working with a few professors and research projects in the U.S. My current job is in healthcare though. Thanks!:-) I'm so nervous!!!!!!! Almost a month until we hear back...:redbeathe Best of luck all!
  10. rn'ti- Thanks for the information! I would only assume that they interview due to their interests in the applicant, or at least I would hope I really wish I could attend one of the open-houses. Did you apply for the program too for next summer? January 15 needs to come a little faster!
  11. Yeah, That's what I thought too! I'm interested in psych as well! I'm between that and acute care. :)
  12. I wonder too! Does everyone who apply get an interview or they interview only those they are interested in? Just curious...
  13. Best of luck Hope! Same here, I wouldn't mind moving either! :)
  14. I find chemistry highly relevant to anything in the medical field, and to anything else in life-as nerdy as that sounds. Organic Chemistry is especially crucial in understanding certain concepts in nutrition. It also helps put the missing pieces together when you're learning some parts of biology and genetics. So although you may not use redox or tautermerization reactions as a nurse, it is important in understanding the concepts of why certain things become the way they are. One thing that I learned in my general chemistry courses and found very useful is stoichiometry, it's especially important when dosing patients with different drug concentrations. See if your school offers any tutoring services, I went to a few of those when I took all my chemistry courses and they helped a lot.
  15. I've taken all the way up to Biochemistry 1 and A&P 1. It seems like chemistry is all math, puzzle and concept-based, and theoretical while A&P is just a whole lot of memorization but with less concepts to understand. I guess it depends if you are good at memorizing since, for instance, at my university we only get a week to learn all the bones in the body then a week for all the muscles and functions in the body before being tested. You will do fine in A&P, just expect to spend a lot of time memorizing!:)
  16. It depends on the program and school. Some schools primarily focus on test scores and GPA while others take an overall approach and look at everything else in addition to GPA and test scores. I would recommend looking for the school/program that you want to go and see what their requirements are. Just FYI it's spelled "competitive".
  17. That's great to hear! I have family in the D.C. area and that is also a big plus for me! It would be like two dreams coming true for me since I never really got to live close to this side of my family for my whole life. I just really overall like the structure of their program and how well they communicate with the public. Ah, the wait is driving me crazy! almost 2 months until we hear back....!!!
  18. Thanks Meg11! I'm in the process of applying to other programs right now just as a backup. I am super excited for this whole process and the prospect for going into nursing school! I was excited to find out about the CNL program since I recently decided to go for nursing, rather than to get a BSN first then a MSN (Although I understand it's a lot more work!) :-) Are you applying to other programs too? Good luck on your interview!!
  19. Hi Meg11! I applied to UVA CNL May 2011 and already had my interview. Everything went well and they are so incredibly nice and organized! How are things coming along for you? Best of luck!
  20. Sewnew - Wow, thanks for taking your time and explaining! That gives me a better idea of what the "daily life" is like in the program. Thank you
  21. Blondell - I'm in the process of applying to the CNL program at UMD, and I was wondering if you can tell me what the program is like there? What is a typical day/week like you for as a CNL student? I haven't heard much from UMD's program so I'm curious to know what current students think about it. Thanks!!:-)
