UMD SON CNL: Current / Former Students
Hi Thanks for the info. The key factor was Full - time work + N101/Funds. in 12 weeks with no prior background. I am in the process of finalizing my financial plan --Plan is full time school only ---will not be working when I go back. The fact that I have no prior Nursing background (CNA or volunteer work) did not help. Thanks again for the info. that is helpful.

University of MD CNL Spring 2011 applicants
Hi, I have also applied for the CNL program for Spring 2011 + need only my final reference to have file completed and ready for review. According to an email from admission office we won't get an answer till November (approx. 8 weeks from deadline--- no rolling admissions). I guess I need to submit 2nd + 3rd choices/ contingency applications for TSU and possibly JHU. Appears I need 1 additional Chem. course to qualify for either program. I plan to attend another info session Monday 6/21 (BSN session not CNL) I went to one back in 2008 while just starting prereqs, but did not "tour" the facility at that time. Good luck. Dave

UMD SON CNL: Current / Former Students
Hi, Positive feedback / negative feedback? Suggestions for success in semester I of the CNL program? Things you would advise students do to prepare ? I have applied for Spring 2011 UMD CNL program and hope to be admitted soon. I completed Funds / N101 at Harford CC (Accelerated program) last summer working full time with a "B". I determined I could not complete the RN program in an acceptable manner and also work. I plan to stop working 1/11 providing I am admitted. I am coming from a Business background with no prior Nursing work experience and found the magnitude of information a bit challenging with just 7 credits last summer. The 15 credit CNL curriculum will obviously be even more challenging and looking for any suggestions from people who have already completed semester I or further. I am looking for some feedback (good or bad) and general suggestions on the CNL program, . Thanks Dave

CCBC Spring 2011
Hi, I was admitted 3 times to CCBC 1 days Catonsville 2008 ; 1 Nights and weekends Essex 2009 ; 1 Nights and weekends special Franklin Square cohort group Essex for 2009 -- Work/financial issues have prevented me from completing a program. I expect to have all financial issues worked out for 1/11 semester and hope to go to UMD. But CCBC has an enviable pass rate (97-99% for past 3-4 years I believe dont have the MBON report in front of me now) producing 200 or so RNs yearly. I ended up starting an accelerated program at Harford CC last summer instead of CCBC. I completed Funds N101 last summer with a "B" but could not work full time and complete the program. CCBC will not transfer any credits to the nursing program so I can either repeat Funds at the AA level or go for a BSN / CNL. I plan to stop work 1/11 and attend UMD SON Regarding the CCBC admission process: My understanding is the application is evaluated as follows (may note be precisely 1/3 should be able to confirm with advisor): 1/3 overall GPA 1/3 Prereq. GPA Teas Results Points granted for all completed prereqs. at time of application--non completed courses scored as a "0" for point purposes TEAS test suggestion: 1) Get book - skim book / go over casually 2) Honestly identify weak areas (I had several, most of us likely have several rusty areas-- had been 25 years since I last took SAT) ---- Then go over in more detail 3) Simulate test conditions 40-50 min intervals(time test/ isolate in a quiet area/ break down questions by time upon starting -so you have adequate time) Would suggest going through book simulating "Test environment" 2-3 times (all sections so the test anxiety/ time management is no longer an issue) Gwen Degner (Catonsville) was very helpful in clarifying requirements. Good luck to all.
