I currently work for a Davita clinic and I love it. I did work med/surge for 9 months after graduation(that I hated). I think that when it comes down to it its about the staff that you work with. I work with a great bunch of nurses and techs. We are not short staffed however so this i am sure makes a big difference. Davita offers very good benefits and vacation package.

Where I work we are not allowed to discharge patients until their ride arrives, I have had patients request to be discharged and allowed to wait in the waiting room and was told that the hospital would be liable if anything should happen while the patient was waiting.

I work on a orthopedic surgery and oncology flood at my hosp. and we use a lot of PCA pumps. Most all of our ortho surgeries come back with a PCA pump from surgery and use them until the second post-op day. They are usually morpine but sometimes dilaudid, they are IV. They work great but you have to monitor your patients very closely as far as respirations ect...also a lot of our patients will be come slightly confused towards evenings.

I graduated in December and take my boards on the 16th of this month and our hospital puts RN/LP on our badges, LP stands for license pending.

I started school 3 years ago when my kids were 9,6, and 3 and I am getting pinned tonight so it can be done!!! The best advice that I can give you is don't sweat the small stuff. Laundry and dishes can always wait another day. I won't say that it was easy but it was something that I needed to do. We all had to make sacrifices but I think that they were well worth it. We lived out of a lot of laundry baskets and ate off of a lot of paper plates but the kids didn't seem to mind too much.

My oldest son was also 31/2 and i was having no luck potty training. We ended up buying him a big power ranger toy that he had been wanting for a long time and set it on top of the fridge and told him that when he started going in the potty he could have it. I think that it took about a week of him looking at that toy and one day he came into the kitchen wearing a pair of underwear, threw his bag of diapers in the trash and said i am ready for my toy now, we never had an accident. My daughter was about 21/2 and her daddy would give her horseyback rides everytime that she went in the potty. Now she is 5 and still occasionally asks for a horseyback ride b/c she went to the potty!!!:)

Isn't this called surgical awareness?
