  1. Hi Tanisha_PCA, I agree with all the rest, if your are able to stick to that position for few years i.e decent pay and likeable job, just go for your rn straight. I passed the board in january as LPN, and as of now, I still can't get a job in the DC metro area. Even LTC now prefer new grad RN. so while waiting for that first job, I am going to start my prereqs for RN this fall. If it was to be done all over, I would have got a pca job in a hospital since the pay is decent, and would have gone for my RN instead.
  2. Hello pat8585 as averyone else said, sallie mae offers private loan, I do have one with them; but my advice is, fill out fafsa, even if you don't qualify for a grant, you can get a loan and the interest rate is way lower than a private loan.
  3. Hello debkimt Me too I tought the only way was to pull the skin taunt, but during one of our clinical rotation, the nurse I worked with pinched the skin so I asked our instructor and she said yes you can pinch for IM. The thing is, unlike the small pinch you use for subq, for IM the finger are positionned a bit wider; and this is mostly used for skinny people. Hope this helps a little
  4. That's true guys, that ''at least one year experience'' is starting to wear me out. Geez, someone has to give me that year. I am in the dc metro arer, and also trying home care agencies, pediatrics or adults, but it is the same. Lord have mercy on us. Nurse2bkimberly let us know what comes out of that interview. since it was an lpn interviewing you and knowing how hard it was for himself, I hope he gives you the chance.
  5. Hello Malika 06 I just graduated and passed my board, so lpn school is still fresh in my mind. Well what I can say is everyone has its own way. Few things that helped me was flash card, the one I bought and those I made myself. Plus it is important to read everyday, no matter how little time you have. Anyhow you will find what works for you. As for the classes, give your best to every class, because it all come together at the end. Of course you will need extra concentration for classes like pharmacology and med/surg. You will get through it, don't worry.
  6. Hello Jessi, pt: patient, Dx: diagnosis, HTN: hypertension for what I know. For your care plan how far are you guys suppose to go for fundamentals? in my program, for the first rotation, our care plan consisted of demographics (name, age, gender, marital status, primary caregiver, religion, responsible party... any pertinent information related to the patient). in section 2, we had to talk about medical conditions and pathophysiology of each; i.e pick 2 or 3 diseases out and present their process(definition, etiology, signs and symptoms, treatment, prognosis...). For the second rotation, since we will be passing meds, we will have to add a third section related to those medications and their effects. I hope this helps.
  7. Hy Chrismurse, if I can add something to what everybady said, is practice that procedure at home or in your lab call (if allowed) on and on and on. So that the next time not only you will be more confident, but most of all, you will be able to finish on time without breaking the sterility or forgetting anything. The trach care has so many little things that can easily make someone forget simple details once you are stressed out by something else like the time and the person watching you. So just be calm, practice, and you will get it the next time.
  8. Hi, I'm still in school, but I would say do you use the cds included in those reviews materials, if yes how? For me one good way would try to do those questions on cd without looking up answer. Do your best to answer them by yourself until you make a good score. Because reading the question and looking up the answer and thinking you will remeber it on tje board might not work. It is scary to know that you have been doing the board since 2005, but there must be something that works for you, just do your best and try hard to find it. I wish you luck.
  9. Hello autumncree, I am in the day program at udc, and started in october. so far everything is fine for me, just a lot lot lot of material to read, but as soon you find what works for you, it goes smoothly. Overall, i won`t say the school is disorganized; some instructors might not do everything you are expecting, and one can`t blame the school for that. for instance, we started clinicals for fundamentals in december, my group have been going since day 1, whereas other instructors cancel for any little thing. It`s great for some students, but annoying for others, so opinions will be different. Regarding the age, we have it all, from 20`s to late 50`s. So you won`t be out of place. Few students dropped out already, for many different reasons (finance, family, health, bad grades...). All I can say Autumncree is the lpn program isn`t joke, even though we are still in the first quater(almost the end), it is a lot, and I guest the further we go, it will get tougher, but as long as you do your part, it works fine. Good luck. Let us know if you have any other question.
  10. Hey survivign, I'm w ms jenkins. The class is so full I don't even know how to start looking for you. 1 day I'll just ask in front of the class. Hello lifesdream how are you doing, how do find it so far. I don't know for you guys, but I like the way dr mcclure is going w his subjects. Let see what it gives after the first test next Friday. If we can't share in live please let's talk here ok? Till we know each other.
  11. Hey guys. There we go, it's getting serious already with homework already like you said survivign. Sorry I didn't type today. Tell who is your lab instructor? Lifesdream it seem that it always full like that at th start line, then people drop.let not be among the droppers. Good luck
  12. Hey congrats survivign. That's cool. So I started this morning, due to some adjustments I had to switch to the morning program at the last minute. I was sitting in class while typing this message. Survivign I hpe we will introduce each other soon, so we can share this experience togther. I feel so excited and scared for what is to come. Good luck lifesdream, let's do this.
  13. Hi Survivingn, have done everything they asked, like passing the test, going to the interview, and submitting all your documents? I don`t understand, 2 months is long enough for a decision. Who totalk at the unempluyement, have you started the process at the does one stop?
  14. Alright my dear, good luck for everything. Like you said Forman mills has some good uniforms cheap; and the best thing to do is take a day off and try your best to gather things together. I can`t wait to get there on monday.
  15. Congratulations!!!!!!! :yeah:Lifedream, I am so happy to read this. I kept on coming back to the thread to see if you had sais something. good. Let`s go for that journey. Yes, it won`t be easy to get all that stuff in 1 week, unless you have enough time. One thing, the store they send us to is so expensive. What about the books you`ve got them already?
  16. Hello everyone, congratulatuions. My name is Elvine, am starting a lpn program at udc on october 18. It's exciting and scary at the same time. I will attend the morning full time program, Monday -Friday for 12 months. Can't wait to get started. Good luck to all.:yeah::

  18. Thank you very much Spete39. You gave me such valuables information. Now I think I will be well prepared to sttart on the 18th. I wish you all the best for the rest, your last test, comprehensive and the board. Let us know how you are doing.
  19. Thank you for those information. I' releive for the uniforms, I know forman mills and use to get my uniforms there. I'm glad that it is not an. Obligation to go to fentons. Please 1 last concern when do clinicala start, I mean how manyvweeks?
  20. Thank you for those information. I' releive for the uniforms, I know forman mills and use to get my uniforms there. I'm glad that it is not an. Obligation to go to fentons. Please 1 last concern when do clinicala start, I mean how manyvweeks?
  21. Thank you Liufesdream, I will check and see. Let me know when you receive your letter. I`m sure it will be positive.
  22. Another concern Spete39, how does it work wih the classes, for example the first term, we have a&p, basic, fundamental and nutrition. Is it one class at a time, meaning today we do this one only, or we can have two at the same time. And what is the frequence of tests? Sorry for all those questions, I am so excited and worried.
  23. Lifesdream, sorry to hear that your interview wasn`t that good, but dont get discouraged, b/c I think if it was that competitive, they wouldn`t be continuing interviews at this time, so i`m pretty sure you are in. After my interview, I receive the letter few days later, and it was dated the day right after my interview, even tough the lady told me how she needed to meet with her comity first. So I am sure we will be together on the 18th. Spete39, I wish you all the best for your last test, I can`t wait to get a that point too, waiting for the last results. Thank you for the tip on the books, b/c the latest edition are so expensives. I have a concern about the uniform, should we absolutly buy them at fentons uniform in Sylver spring, they are kind of expensive and I like to have many uniforms, so my bill will be kind of high with them. And what about those 2 excused absence, you can`t miss more than 2 classes? lol Lifesdream please can you tell me about those scholarships other student were filling out? I trying to find some financial aid, but it is hard.
  24. Hello lifesdream, I will be going to udc too, evening program. I receive a letter saying that the start date has been pospone to october 18. That`s too bad b/c I already made some change to my job for working only weekend, and they hire someone else. Well I wil just take some rest. Like you I am overwhlemed by all the books and everything, and wonder if during the program we really go over all those books. But what spete39 said is encouraging. I read that you `re going to evening also, hope we meet there.
