Don't let this threaten your confidence in yourself as a nurse. I have over 25 years in nursing experience and can tell you that mistakes are just going to happen. We don't want or mean to make them, but we ALL make them. Even physicians make them. Of course, we try our best to NOT make them, but we are all human. Just take the mistakes as a learning experience. An "unsafe" nurse would be one that continually makes the same mistakes and doesn't bother to learn from them and is not bothered by making mistakes.

I had an ob patient on medicaid the other day ask me if it would be safe for her to go on the cruise with her husband next month. She said she needed a quick answer because her husband was about to purchase the tickets. I am a LVN and single parent that struggles to pays for my own insurance and healthcare and I cannot afford to go on a cruise. Or, how about these people that claim they cannot pay their healthcare costs, but smoke 1-2 packs of cigerettes a day? For alot of people, it is really just about what they choose to pay for.

I have a question about how LVN's were taught to give an IM injection. I was trained in 1985 and was taught to pull the skin/muscle taunt. I have been working in clinics for the last 10+ years now and the MA's that I have worked with ( the majority of them), pinch up the skin/muscle to give an IM injection. They tell me they are taught this way in their MA schooling. Which is the correct way?, and has anyone else ever encountered this? Thanks for your info, this has caused a big ruckus at my job.
