  1. I recall one of my professors talking about the housing at cornell while i was in school and heard great things of being able to live on the upper east side. As far as rent for 700? :nono:thats gonna be a tough one in nyc unless you plan on having a roomate. Goodluck with everything :)
  2. Which HHC facility is this? One of my friends experienced the same thing. Usually once hired they tell you to come in and get fingerprinted and sign the contract (agreement of salary) sort of thing. Then after that you will join the next available orientation group and there is usually 1 or 2 a month.
  3. I recently graduated and a new nurse on a Surgical ICU floor and i fear work. I have this anxiety that makes my stomach turn n my chest tight when 7pm comes around when i know i have to be a work the next morning. While i was in school i was interested in OB/GYN n Critical care. Now that i have been on an icu floor for about a month i absolutely think that this isnt for me? is this normal? I want to be able to communicate with patients this meaning that all of my patients are pretty much ventilated and there is alot to learn and im just overwhelmed! will this feeling go away or maybe this unit just isnt for me? Can some recent grads relate? or Experienced nurses offer some guidance?
  4. congrats!!!1 i know im kinda late but hey better late then never :) hope to see u around...did u go to orientation yet? im a bmmc student heading to nur211 if u have any questions on what books to get as far as what i found helpful feel free to ask...i heard u guys got a new addition i think its a suggested book on fluid and electrolyte i striongly suggest that one!
  5. well it is a lil exhausting to work...but i did...i must say they say how everything will come to a stop except nursing i felt that it wasnt like that for me of course there were times where u kno u had to study but it wasnt a night n day thing maybe because it was just clinical semester 1....lol hopefully i can repost sumthin similar ti this again next semester lol
  6. ok i kno alot u guys n gals are waiting for acceptance letters and now that the semester is a couple of days to over everyone should be hearing from school very very soon especially my fellow bmcc students....goodluck!!!!!! :) i just wanted to share i finished my first clinical semester at bmcc 211 here i come....hopefully every1 gets accepted to the school of their choice... just wanted to share my joy hehe also a a big smile and clapping hands to the nurses to be thats graduating bmcc this semester i will be at the pinning ceremony volunteering.:balloons:
  7. as far as orientation....are u talking about ur first clinical orientation or ur orientation to nur112...?i am a day student so i dunno what evening does for orientation to the course day students have to go to thru a lottery as far as ur clinical orientation everybody starts off at mary manning walsh then after u will have orientation at ur original clinical site they will review pretty much da policies and forms that the hospital goes by pretty much.... a few hospitals that were left out that we do rotations at are lenox hill....lincoln hospital in the bronx...va hosp....elmhurst hosp...i think only for psych tho...anyhow goodlcuk hope u get in and if not dont be discouraged there is also sp07...and dont just take the semester off i recommend u take any courses needed....therefore by the time clinicals come around u dont have to worry about taking a course othere than the clinical its hard to juggle...hope this info was helpful....
  8. theres not a waiting list u just have to apply after u finish ur pre-reqs and i believe the top 120 gpas get in 40 for morning 40 for afternoon 40 for evening....i am currently in nur112 about to go to 211 wooohooo lol anyhow goodluck i believe it is too late to apply now for fa06...if u have any questions u should go to s788
  9. thanks for the heads up....i went to register for class on fri the 13th. i was the 3rd to pick the section b/c of the lottery... yippeee!!! i got to choose the morning section...im still excited...lol. alot of the students said they started reading fundamentals of nursing and it was really difficult to understand...im a bit nervous because i know the material is gonna be new to me. its gonna sound like another language until i get into the groove of it.
  10. thanks for the advice...Fundamentals success was that a book you picked up on your own??? im going to register for classes tomorrow and will be stopping at manhattan books any other reccomendations??? As far as the math exam... what type of questions do they ask...is it strictly dimensional analysis or they give a situation??? multiple choice??? is it the same test every semester??? and how many questions?? sorry for all the questions just trying to prepare myself for this "wild ride" :)
  11. yea i am definitely excited..... i will be a day student. Were you a day or evening, and how is it going for you. I was also wondering did you have to take the math exam your first day of class???? I'm a bit worried i toke math104 about 2 semesters ago...what if i dont pass:imbar

  16. ok i kinda see...lol...guess its a lil hard to experience when im not a nurse eh??? i see that being a nurse has flexibilty as far as schedule wise. i need the flexibility in my work schedule and days off...i get scared sometimes because i hear that nurses sometimes are pretty much at work all the time and barely have time off.. i want to pursue a career where i can still be a present parent and things of such..thanks everyone for the input!!!
  17. i heard that nurses usually will work a week and get off a week, or work double shifts everytime they work that way they actually have days off. i was curious is this true. can someone please let me know what a nurses work schedule can be like...thanks alot!
