New Grad decision: ICU vs Step down vs CCU
How has it been? Did you decide the ICU? I am too a new graduate going into the ICU. I was however an LPN for a few years. I am still considered a new nurse and like you I am going to the ICU. I know a lot of people who said not to go because it's too much for new grads so I am curious to see how it's been going for you. It's been like 2 months. Are you loving it? How exciting. I'm going to a MICU at a level one trauma hospital although most trauma will go to the SICU. I'm extremely excited but also nervous. Share your experience please!

ICU job dilemma- help!
I would call the SICU and talk to the manager that interview you and explain to her exactly what you explained to us. Tell her your goals, your school choices, and that you were offered a position in the MICU that you didn't want to turn down unless you are able to come to the SICU. She/He will understand. If they wanted to offer you the position they will be thrilled. Trust me. Communication is always key, plus it looks professional on your character. Make sure you also explain your goals to the MICU manager as well that way when you decline her offer she understands why and will respect you for following your dreams and being honest.

Simple nursing.com???
I can't find anything about it on this forum? I'm an LPN-RN student and was hoping to find some other stories about it. Thank you for your input I'll try you tube for some videos. Thanks.

Simple nursing.com???
I am just wondering if anyone has used this website? I have read so many different things good things of course but I'm still scared. It's very expensive. His name is Mike and he is like an online teacher for nursing students. He supposedly helps all students increase their grades by breaking down the "important" things on all different types of topics. I mean I you tube some of his videos and they are good but to buy the complete package for $14.95 x 24 months for a grand total of $360 is ALOT! Just wondering if anyone out there has used him for their nursing student needs?

struggling with 1st semester classes
I feel your pain. I am in an extremely difficult Patho class now. Everyday I want to pull my hair out. It's so discouraging because I feel like I get the information but the way my teacher test is very difficult and it is not NCLEX style which I am use to. I am literally just passing the class and I study everyday all day. But I am determined to make it out of this class. So I say to you don't give up! I know its hard but you can teach yourself. Idk what book you use but try getting patho made incredible easy or the nclex book and study questions in there also if the book has evolve utilize it. There are many resources out here. Don't give up you have come so far!

Accepted into Nursing School
I'm so excited! I have been an LPN for about 2.5 years now so I know how crazy school can get but for some reason I'm so nervous and anxious to start. I'm taking a DA class a Patho class and a Advance assessment class now, so I'm getting a taste of what look forward to. IT HAS BEEN A TOUGH SEMESTER!

Accepted into Nursing School
Yes... I have a planner too. I think it works great. Much better than the one in my phone. I'm an LPN so this is a bridge program for me. I'm super excited. Only thing I would suggest is just relax and spend time with family because it's going to get busy. I'm currently taking 3 classes now so it is hard to relax but I think that is/was the best advice that someone gave to me prior to me starting LPN school. GOOD LUCK to you.... I start 1/12. KIT! #excited

Before I get hired in a LTC... WTH!!!
You need to know nursing info. Everything you learned in school. Working in a LTC facility is the same as working with any other patient except these patient may not be a critically ill as they would be in the hospital. There is no specific info you should know. You passed the boards your know enough now it's just time to apply.

Hesi and the actual boards
I agree the hesi was helpful preparing you for the boards. I actually thought the hesi was a little harder than the boards. I passed my hesi first try but I think that having taken the hesi it help me be more prepared for what to expect on my boards Congrats on passing...

Feeling like a failure
For one it sounds like you have already defeated yourself. You have got to be a CONFIDENT nurse! Critical thinking is something that can be learned... So read, read and re-read! If being a nurse is something that you want to do CLAIM it and do what you need to do to better your self. You already passed school and passed the nclex you are there you have to just rely on what you ALREADY know and apply it. You can critically think. They have got to be able to trust that you know what you are doing but in order for them to trust you... You have got to TRUST yourself! DON'T give up!

honest mistake and treated like a criminal
Well you were neglectful... But understand EVERYONE makes mistakes. We nurse are HUMAN! Just realize your mistakes and move on from it. This is an opportunity for your DON to teach not convict. You are a new nurse and time management is scary but it's better to be slow and thorough then fast and neglectful. Doesn't sound like they have a case against you. You will be fine. The worst they can do is terminate you because you are not past 90 days. But the BON will not sanction your license over it. You have a Rx for why you tested positive. And it was an mistake. It was neglectful and that will be the reason you will get disciplined. Let them do what they need to do. Admit your wrong doings and take full responsibility for your mistake it could have been way worst... And move on. Just make sure you are more careful and mindful Of EVERYTHING you are doing. And do not depend on someone to help you. Some ppl are just not friendly. Let go and let God... (Or whom ever you believe if you are spiritual). Good luck to you!

honest mistake and treated like a criminal
Wait something just doesn't make sense... If both a Tylenol and What ever pain medication dropped on the floor... And the patient got Tylenol instead of let's just say oxycodone (don't really know any pill that looks like a Tylenol). Who got the oxycodone? Is it still on floor? Another patient? I think that is where it looks suspicious? Also you say you have been there 3 months so you are over your 90 day period? Or almost there? They can not report and sanction you for something they can not prove. As long as you have a RX stating that you take the medication. They can not fault you. Worst to worst you will be termed...

Need a nclex book for lpn med surge
Yes is a good book to study for the nclex I used it. And passed first time with 85 questions which is the minimum for pn. And I passed my exit hesi with a 94%. It's a hard book, so don't be discouraged if ur scores are low, Make sure u read the rationales. Good Luck

Need a nclex book for lpn med surge
I recently graduated PN and the saunders book was good but not for studying in class to me, it breaks it down but not really to understand it until you already know it. (If that makes sense). It's not really at a beginning level. Hesi and Kaplan nclex book were really helpful they were an easy read and it breaks it down to the point. These books will definitely help u study questions that will be similar to the questions you will see on your exams. Hope that helped...
