Patients and the race card
As a Unit Clerk many years ago, accusations were made by a patient who claims she was ignored because she is a minority. Because I know the Nursing Staff and I treat (ed) everyone as we (our family member) deserves to be treated, I was able to proudly state that this was not the case. There were 2 patients coding and stretchers with admissions from the ER and PACU rolling down the hallway so since she was able to ambulate and had no dietary restrictions, she could help herself to all the water she needed from the water fountain. (This was after our volunteer responded to the call light and the patient insisted she needed a nurse.) There was also a patient who stated we were wasting our time dealing with women and minorities and we should treat him as if he was the only who mattered because he had excellent insurance, lots of money and he's American!! In Healthcare, business, retail, service industries - we all experience this and sometimes co-workers will make accusatory statements as well. It is just as hurtful if the person is of your race as coming from someone of another race so as long as you can truthfully tell that person their statement is not true, you have nothing to worry about!!

Taking A&P Online
Hi Caitlin, University of Rochester offers A&P I & II online but they do not include labs. You would have to check with the Nursing program(s) you are planning on applying to and inquire if the Science pre-reqs require labs. I took A&P I at a local community college and A&P II online through the University of Rochester and had to put in more study time for the online course. There is a lot of material to cover and you never know what you will be tested on. In a regular classroom, the professor may say to concentrate on particular areas but just be familiar with other subjects whereas online you don't have that. If the science without labs works for you, the link is: http://www.son.rochester.edu/cll/courses.html Hope this helps!!

Employer decreased salary on first day of work. What should i do?
Good Luck on your interviews!! I hope you find something soon. When you are settled contact 311 or the NYS Dept of Labor. Your employer violated Section 195.1 of NYS Labor Law. As of October 2009, it is NYS law all employers must provide employees written notice of pay rate, overtime pay rate (if you qualify for overtime) and regular pay date schedule. There is no standard form but it should be provided to you. Hopefully you still have your 'offer' letter. Submit a copy of your offer letter indicating what you were offered when you accepted the position and a copy of your pay stub. Your employer will have to make restitution. The e-mail address is: [email protected]. Good Luck

Has anyone else heard anything regarding acceptance/rejection for the Jan 2011 cohort? The anticipation didn't bother me until I read nycClara's post - now I am so on edge!!!

Search for grad nursing salary info...
You can look at the Nursing Spectrum magazine or search for Nursing Job Fairs in your area of interest. Some recruiters provide on the spot interviews or will at least provide a salary range. If it is possible, you may want to stay in your area until you gain at least a year of experience. This will allow you & your husband to research the job market in a particular area for his skill set and school districts for your daughter. Good Luck!!

Failed nursing first time, no CUNY would take me back. What to do next?
dogoodthengo gave excellent advice! kingsboro is not an option because they do not accept applications from anyone who has withdrawn from, failed or received a c or lower in a pre-req. also, as you stated, no cuny will accept you. your next option is to reflect on and deal with why you failed the course - lack of studying, not applying yourself fully to the coursework, submitting late assignments or not submitting assignments at all, etc. since cuny is out, as someone suggested, research suny and possibly private schools and consider staying on campus to reduce distractions. another option is to continue at cuny, complete your bs in something health-related then apply to a second degree bsn program. (if you were in the clinical portion at csi, then i am assuming you completed all your pre-reqs.) your pre-reqs will be good for at least 3-5 years (depending on the nursing program.) stay focused, if you are determined to become a nurse then pursue it!! once you are accepted into a nursing program, stay focused and utilize the resources (including staff) who are there to ensure your success. the time and attention you exert in completing your nursing program will determine the type of nurse you will be. good luck!!

About to start NS...but unhappy with my school
There are Associate's programs here in NY that will not allow you to progress if you withdraw from a pre-req. You are in a good program. Good Luck to you!!!
