I have worked in the ER and LTC. EMS for the most part was so nice to me in the ER but that was not the case when I worked in LTC, some how EMS asumed I lost most of my brain cells when I took that job, unless the patient was coding I never called EMS without a Dr.'s order, and I certainly never recomended that a pt. be sent. ( I hate all that paper work). Of coorifice I can not just put the blame of rudness on EMS it was the doctors as well.

I worked full time nights (10 hour shifts/4 night a week). I had a 7month old daughter when I started and only slept every 3rd night. Just about as close as you can get to insanity. Now it has been 4 years and I can't bring myself to go back and get my RN.

:) I love being a nurse, I was one of those kids who put bandages on all of her dolls.:)

family members who are not caregivers, staying in the room (refusing to leave), during personal procedures, (changing, ect.). I am a nurse, and consider one butt the same as the next, but my dad would rather die as to have me seeing someone wipe his butt.

Well, mine I think is the worst, When I had just started working as a cna in a nursing home (10 years before nursing school) I was draining a cath bag into a graduate, when I went to hold it up to see how many cc's were there someone called my name, I turned, bumped my elbow and dumped urine over my shoulder and down my back, Oh god, I was sick, but without even thinking, I started stripping all of my clothes off and jumped into the shower in the patients room, pulled the emergency cord and had my charge bring me a gown. When I was leaving the patients room smiled and said, "thanks for the show sissy" I went straight home and took anouther shower or two.

I am with you, I HATE med-surg and Tele, but so far I have really enjoyed all the other fields of nursing, ER, OR, SNF, CC, LTC, and even now, school Nurse. When I worked med-surg and telm, I never had a good day. everyday was a life draining moment. There is so much out their, look around and try something that looks interesting.

This is my first year as a school nurse. I thought I would hate it. When I was in nursing school and did my clinical days in a school I vowed I would NEVER be a school nurse. I only took this job because my daughter started school and I didn't want to put her in day care. Well I am happy to say that I LOVE it. 95% of my kids are great. I am in a elementry school with 700 kids and 20 LD/MR pre-schoolers. The kids have so much personallity. It is a great change from gumpy old men, who yell at me for their coffee being to cold or their remote doesn't work. I am very busy during the day and am always drownding in paperwork. I see about 100 kids each day for everything from boo boos to seizures and broken arms. 2 days are never the same.

I have had the same problem in my school.(700, elementry). My school has a social worker and she is a great. She does home visits, talks with parents and hotlines if she needs too. I work more on the children themselves. I have found that it is best just to be frank with the kids. I don't sugar coat it. If they smell bad, I tell them they do, clean them up and find out why they smell bad. I ask them, if they need soap, deoderant, shampoo, ect... I have a 6 year old who would wear the same outfit for 2-3 days and she would wet the bed at night and get up and come to school. The social worker couldn't get anywhere with mom, and DFS would not so I started working on the kid. I told her she had to shower every night, and sleep in PJ's. It has worked fairly well. She still wears dirty clothes alot, but at least they do not smell too bad. Each day she is dressed clean and smells clean I give her candy. I do have one kid who comes in and has an odd smell. The home visit proved that the whole house smelled that way. That I am not sure what to do with.
