around bigger citys the pay will be more. from graduation rns get like 30 something an hour and lpns twenty something. plus theres over time, more money with night hours and sign on bonuses with some hospitals

scorpio- congrats for completing ma! i plan to take the lpn to rn bridge class also. hackensack said in a yr or two they might actually have it there as well as ramsey. right now im just fretting how much this will actually cost me. bklyn- ty! the practice test was actually harder then the real one! they said each test was different but mine was pretty easy. well the reading and english were and the math was a little more difficult. theres metric conversion, some geometry and algebra. the test is about 3 hours and is timed. they also dont give you your test results till 24-48 hours later. you have to register on the atitesting.com site before you take it and they block your results from viewing it. mine are still blocked for some reason. i know they def accept pell and loans but i'm just worried about paying all this off. the course is over 21k and thats a lot of money. dont stress the test. if you scored in the high 90s you will have no problem!!

thank you! i passed the teas test and have to go tomorrow to do the registration and application process. they told me i could get in the sept 27th program. the tuition is now 22k and i rec'd a letter from the state saying the hackensack school doesnt participate in state grants but that wont effect financial and institutional ones. however the ramsey school accepts them which i just dont understand. how was the school when you went? the instructors, classes etc.? how are their job placement? did you get a job right from graduation?

i was told a little over 21,000 when i went there a couple weeks ago and they also didnt tell me eastwyck of ramsey might not take all the credits from the hackensack school. also they dont accept state grants, i just got that letter today. are you enrolled or will you be starting in january? i go next week for my teas test. now i'm ify because of them not accepting the grants. im wondering how much federal aid i could get

Gillian, Thanks for the advice! Unfortunetly i'm 27 and graduated 10 years ago so my memory of chemistry is long gone as well. I have to work full time and have a 2 yr old so evening courses are the only way to go for me. to get into bergen community evening nurse courses i would have to take the pre reqs during the day and that would interfere with my job. could you email me that PDF link you put up? its no longer working. ill private message you my email

Gillian, Thanks for the info! Good luck on the test! Did they mention the cost? I wonder if its the same as Hackensack. Its too bad the commute is too far for me. Let me know how you do on the test and what the next steps are for you to get in.

Thanks! Ramsey is just a branch from the Hackensack one. They are both Eastwick. I bought the Barrons study guide and the McGraw-Hill one. Both are very good. I'm just thankful there isn't any Science questions on the tests. Let me know what they say!

Gillian, I was interested in going to the Hackensack Ho Ho Kus school. I went there and didn't pass the math practice test so I went back (after studying like crazy) and passed everything. I paid $45 and scheduled the Teas entrance exam to take in 2 weeks. If I pass that then I would get put in the January 2011 Lpn class, if I dont pass then I think they said you have to wait 2 months to retake it. But they had said after graduating the LPN school and getting your state certification then you have to work as a LPN for a year before entering the RN program. They also said by that time ( I would be going to night classes so the course would be 18 months long) they should have the RN course at that campus. Also tuition is 20k but they do offer fiancial aid. That doesnt get discussed till you pass the Teas test though

Please Melissa, share the knowledge! I bought Barrons nursing school entrance exams. The only school I have found advertising LPN jobs was St Claires Boonton. Also you could get hired as a medical assistant or nurse certified assistant in a hospital but I'm sure that LPN pay won't be there. Hospitals have such great benefits. Maybe we'll get lucky and get picked up doing clinical? Maybe just wishful thinking.

Melissa I was debating over ho ho kus or lincoln tech and then they told me lincoln tech lpn course was over 30k! Theres is only 20k. They also stated they are more stricter and thorough then them also. The admissions clerk was surprisingly honest with me. I told him I knew how hard it is to get a hospital job as a lpn and all thats out there are ltc jobs. He agreed and even agreed to help me if I even scored a 70 something score on the math. Did you take the practice test with them or the real thing? I'm surprised there isnt science on it. I can only go to school at night so their 18 month course with classes m-th 530-930 and alternating saturdays are best for me compared to other schools. I wish I was fiancially able to go to allied health in hackensack or holy names nursing school with their classes during the day. ive been working on math nonstop since yesterday and not planning to stop till i retake the test monday. that woman was really rude that shooed me away and tried pawning her $85 book off on me. she basically said i either buy that or go for medical assisting

Melissa, On Monday I took the practice TEAS test for ho ho kus medical school in hackensack. I did great except I failed the math. Its just reading, sentence structure and math. The school wants you to pass the practice test first before doing the real thing which costs ($45). I got a book yesterday from borders and have been studying math and I go back next Monday to retake it. The admissions counselor was very nice but his boss was another story. She was trying to convince me to buy their $85 book or to go into medical assisting programs for 12 month and then go to LPN. She also didnt want to reschedule me for another test. i considered bcc to get my associates but i would need to take the evening courses and have been out of high school for 10 years. and then i read this: Evening Nursing applicants cannot be accepted until general corequisites (8 courses) have been completed. Evening nursing program accepts students for spring only. General Education Elective. Exit Examination: A nationally standardized examination will be given. Only those students who achieve a passing score and have met all other degree requirements will be certified by the Director to take the NCLEX-RN. Note: Students enrolled in this program ARE REQUIRED to successfully complete a course in basic algebra if indicated by the Basic Skills Placement Test.
