  1. What kind of experience do you have? New Hanover is the biggest hospital of the bunch and is definitely hiring! Just FYI :) Good luck with your search! I just moved to Wilm a year ago, so I understand trying to figure everything out when you're in the dark.
  2. I am looking to start doing some travel nursing asap. I was wondering how to find an agency and how to research the reputation of these agencies. Are there any nurses out there that are traveling or have traveled and have any suggestions? Have you had a good experience with your company or poor experience? What has been good and/or bad? Also, I noticed in a post related to pay rates that many were stating rates without benefits. Are there any of these types of contracts/agencies that provide benefits? Any information or advice provided would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey, was just wondering if you found a travel buddy and/or if you are still interested in traveling if (you're not already). I'm looking at jumping into traveling nursing and also in the same boat as everyone else here... from Ohio, looking to spend some time maybe in DC, one of the Carolinas, maybe Texas, etc.
  4. I work at a hospital that has a nursing school (ADN program) affiliated with it. All nurses on my floor with the exception of maybe me and 2 others became nurses through said ADN program. At my yearly eval, my manager gave some criticism and tried to contribute it to me being a BSN nurse vs all the ADN nurses. MADE ME FEEL LIKE LESSER OF A NURSE WHEN I BUSTED MY BUTT IN SCHOOL FOR 4 YEARS VS 2 YEARS! I just smiled and nodded but I could still about vomit thinking about her comments and bullcrap rationale.
  5. I am in the exact same situation right now, except I work days and nights and most weeks are 4 12's because they are short staffed. When I work consecutive days, I don't see my fiance at all, not to mention that 6 hours is not enough sleep after a couple nights! I'm trying to reach one year at my current workplace, which will be in September. I'm going to start trying to get in at the closer hospital so I don't have to worry about winter driving...there's no way I'll make through a winter with this drive and it makes me a nervous wreck, too. From what I hear, the closer hospital pays a dollar less an hour, but it's totally worth it in my opinion. They have better facilities and I'll be saving a lot in gas money and I'll get more sleep and personal time. Just wanted to let you know what someone else is doing in very similar shoes!
  6. In the real world you generally only check apical, radial, and dorsalis pedis unless there is something going on that warrants further assessment. In some circumstances you have to check the post tibial also (sometimes requiring a doppler) if they've had leg surgery or circulation issues. I haven't had to check any others at this point. As far as popliteal pulse goes, I don't have any suggestions. I always had a really hard time with it too
  7. I've been working for about 10 months and am just starting to feel comfortable about remembering to do all the small things and about knowing what to do in a lot of situations. It just takes time. And I am the queen of questions--it's the only way you can learn! There will always be some nasty doctors and nurses and otherwise around, don't take it personally.
  8. So perfectly stated. I think these things all the time and could about lose my mind--at least I know I'm not the only one!
