"But for me, 98.4 means I have a fever...."
I was on vacation 2.5 hours away from home and had a blocking kidney stone. I had to leave and go home to my hospital. I will never forget in the emergency room the surgical resident said to me " YOur not that sick since you don't have a fever!" Really-- I had a stent put in the next day, I was on iv antibiotics because my urine was total pus and infected. I had to return to have the stone removed and a stent was placed until 3 weeks later. I was off of work. But I was not sick! lol. Everyone is different! People should be looked at as individuals. If a patient does not understand their vitals then the nurse should take the time to explain them.

What motivates you to go to work every day?
Lets be honest! I love my job but I would not be doing it if I didn't have bills to pay.

I exploded at work. Haha miserable. Here's what happened? Should I feel bad, I kinda
I can't believe people can be so inconsiderate. Or that places put up with such tardiness. At our work we are late if we clock in 1 minute late. We have to get report by five minutes after. That sounds like craziness!

Who is going to wait on me????
The bad thing is now hospitals will be reimbursed for how satisfied the patient was with their care. Imagine the patient's survey who did not get what they wanted.

PLEASE HELP! How does your hospital do holiday rotations for night shift staff?
We work one winter holiday and one summer holiday. If it is our holiday to work we work the holiday and the day after. For example for Thanksgiving-- I work wednesday night (holiday pay) and thursday night. but I am off Christmas and New Years completely. So we rotate holidays every 3 years. People also have the option of working just part of the holiday but then you work almost every single one.

What's wrong with kids today? (and I'm not even that old)
I work labor and delivery and many of these immature 18,19,20,and21 year olds are having kids of their own. They are the worst patients to take care of. Very whiney, don't want to feel anything and extremely demanding and spoiled. Also taking full advantage of Medicaid. These are the people raising the future generation!!!! Heaven help us!

First RN job & it's pay
I am not a new nurse but when I graduated from nursing school 20 years ago starting pay was $20.00. I see starting pay has not increase dramatically. Just curious how much did you expect to get paid. $40,000 starting pay out of college is not bad! Nurses often don't get raises every year and when they do it is very little!

Can I get it back?
Of course! Having a difficult pregnancy makes anyone feel out of wack! Good luck! :)

I just feel that I would feel in much better hands if I had nurses that were sexy
He really has no room talk, he is not exactly what I would call easy on the eyes to look at. He use to be a dj on the radio in Detroit and was a disgusting pig about everything!

Does working L&D make you want more babies?
Working in L&D does not make me want to have more children. I have four which is plenty! I love what I do and get to see babies all the time! I say go for it if hat is where you want to work!

Wanting to totally bail out on nursing
I was an l&d nurse for10 years. I left went back to school for teaching. Taught five years and realized with four teenagers going to go to college could not make enough money to pay off my student loans and do right by my kids. I am back in nursing in l&d at a different hospital and love it. I regret going back to school! Maybe you should look for another specialty or work at a different place! Good luck! Hope you find what you are looking for!

Will I be considered for a different unit if I am turned down after an interview?
I was turned down for a position but kept applying for others. I am now working at that hospital on a different unit which I love. Keep trying it just means that someone may have been a better fit for that position. Good luck!:)

L&D nurses - can you look at my birth plan?
As a labor and delivery nurse I think your birthplan is very reasonable! Just curious- is this your first baby? A trend that I have noticed is that first time moms always have birthplans. A birth without medicine or epidurals flies out the window when they feel how intense the pain gets. It is rare that a second time mom has a birth plan! I don't see why a baby has to stay in the nursery unless it is being observed for low sugar issues. Best of luck withthe birth you desire. If it is really such a concern delivering at this hospital then I would go where my needs will be met regardless of how much I would have to pay. At every hospital a nurse's goal is to provide care so that a healthy baby and mom are the outcome. I have also seen things change in a matter of seconds and things move quickly to obtain a healthy out come regardless of how the baby is delivered! Best of luck!

I need some help with this decision-PLZ!!
Take the days. I am on nights with no hope of getting on days for years in labor and delivery. I have only been on nights since January. I love the people I work with but it is wrecking havoc on my body! The extra money is nit worth it!

Say something! That girl is being bullied and needs support!
