  1. Can you tell me exactly how you studied? I need to know exactly what to do and what percentage is considered passing on the cd. Thanks so much
  2. It takes a special person to be an oncology nurse. I could never do it. I am 23 years old now and I was 8 years old holding my mom's hand begging her not to leave me. Yes, she had the dreadful word, malignant lymphoma. The nurses were so wonderful. They let me play with all the equipment (whether it was her home health nurse or her nurse at the hospital) If you are an oncology nurse, you have no idea what you mean to me. My very first clinical on the oncology floor, I had a pt with Gastric Cancer. Guess what, he died while I was caring for him. Every nurse is special, but to me oncology nurses are extra special. I said when my mom died that I was going to be a nurse, and the oncology nurses are the reason why. I just wish I could do it. :)
  3. If nursing is what you want to do, dont ever let anyone tell you you cant do it. You can do anything you set your mind to. I would try at another school instead of the one you are at now. It sounds like they are not student advocates there. It is your choice, but remember you will never be happy unless you finish RN school. And you will always wonder what would have been different if you had gone back to RN school. You can do it, I know you can. Good Luck in whatever you choose:)
  4. Congratulations. :balloons:
  5. And I sure had rather have a male OB/GYN than a female. I dont see any difference in a male nurse and a male OB/GYN.

See how crazy this is- I graduated from an AD program last May. My husband is in a BSN program right now. He will tell you in a heartbeat that he wishes he had gone to a AD program (which he got accepted also but chose the BS). He said it is all about paperwork whereas with the AD program, we are all about "hands on". I actually had to write his documentation for insertion of foley and IV because he didnt know how when he had to pass off on them. The BS program has a lot more paperwork than the AD and it is a lot about writing papers and that sort of thing. And I am not at all putting down BS programs: This is from my husbands mouth who is in the BS program. I do think the BS programs prepare you better for boards than the the AD programs. J:p :)
  7. [ I'ts pretty darn hard to be able to pinpoint who is going to be the competent nurse by the NCLEX alone, IMO. Thank you!!!
  8. I have talked with KAPLAN which I am signed up for. They seem to think (because I answered 265 questions the last 2 times I have taken the test) that I just have trouble making a decision between 2 answers. They seem to think I know my nursing content or I wouldnt make it to 265 questions. No, I didnt have trouble with test in nsg school. I do have a problem with anxiety. With those 2 together, that is why I know I can do it. If I had struggled through school, barely passing and failed NCLEX 5 times I would know it was not for me. But, I didnt struggle with nsg content or clinical. It is just this test. And I dont think that how many times you fail the test tells anything about the kind of nurse you will be. But that is just my opinion. Thanks so much!!:)
  9. I understand that but the advice I asked for actually wasnt even about the guy in my class. I was making a point about how boards make no sense whatsoever, and how an A student can fail boards and others can pass. I wasnt putting him down either. He was actually a good friend of mine in school. And I am not jealous of everyone who has passed. I am very happy for them. We all worked very hard through nursing school. No one had it any worse than anyone else. I graduated last May.
  10. Actually, I never even noticed it until you said something. I have no idea. Sometimes if I am at work, I have to use all caps for the program I have to use. I dont know how it happened that the first letter of every word happed to be capitalized. Interesting. Thanks for the "change of thought":chuckle
  11. Thanks To All Of You For Your Kind Words And Reassurance; I Thought This Was A Place Where You Didnt Get Criticized For The Things You Say. But Its Ok. I Have Signed Up For Kaplan. Some Of You Guys Here Are Wonderful And I Feel Like I Know You By Your Posts. To All Of You Who Will Be Retaking The Nclex And To All Of You About To Take The Nclex For The First Time- Good Luck. You Will Make It And We Will All Be Rns And We Will All Be Taking Care Of People (or As Some People Say- I Will Probably Be Killing Them Ha Ha) And For You Ms Nicu Rn Or Mr Nicu Rn Whatever You Are. I Am Actually Still With The Same Agency I Have Been With Since The First Time I Took Boards Making The Same Amount Of Money I Was Making Before I Failed. They Must Not Think I Will Be Killing Too Many People Or I Am Sure I Would Not Still Be With Them. But Thanks For Your Post Because You Just Made My Determination Level Reach The Sky. I Will Never Give Up If I Fail 100 Times. It's Amazing How Some Words You Think Would Hurt Someone Actually Helps. Maybe Your Words Were Just What I Needed After All- Thanks
  12. well see, i didnt work my butt off for 2 years of nsg school to quit taking board just because i failed. i knew enough to make it through school (and not to mention i had a baby in fourth semester and went back to school 2 days after my discharge- see i can do ANYTHING) i will pass boards!!!! there is a guy that i went to school with who couldnt do a sterile drsg change in 4th semester but guess what, he is taking care of people in ICU now!! How scary is that. at least i know when i do pass i know i will be a good nurse. i learned how to do a sterile drsg change in 1st semester. i believe in God and i know if God brings you to it, he will bring you through it.....
  13. I AM SO SORRY. THAT IS SO SAD. BUT YOU KNOW YOU ARE BLESSED. YOU ARE SO STRONG. I AM ALSO 23 AND HAVE 2 KIDS, BEEN MARRIED 4 YEARS, AND MY KIDS ARE HEALTHY. I DONT KNOW HOW YOU DO IT. YOU WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS.
  14. no way no how. there are too many couples out there longing for babies. then there are those who are blessed to be able to carry a child, they spit them out like candy, and kill them. how awful. abortion is murder.
  15. when i was in nursing school, we (the students) were never SITTING around the desk to answer the call bell. we were starting ivs, inserting foleys, anything we could because if we were sitting somewhere to be able to answer the telephone or call bell, our instructor would have sent us home. we were not allowed to sit down except on our 30 min. lunch break (and we did 12 hour clinicals.
  16. I know exactly how you feel. I also graduated in May and I have taken and failed boards five times. It is so stressful. I also have 2 kids. I am going to take the Kaplan course and retest in May. I now have to take the new format test. Just hang in there, it will all be worth it one day. Everything happens for a reason. We just have to pray really hard and study really hard, and we WILL pass this test. It's just ONE test, that's it....
  17. So The Test Wont Be Harder, Just A Different Format? I Am Really Nervous About It
  18. when i was in nsg school and we were getting all our paperwork together, our instructor told us to put even a speeding ticket on our form. she said it is better to be honest, and she said as long as you are honest and tell them ahead of time (before they figure it out themselves) then they probably wont hold it against you or deny you from taking boards. it took about 3 weeks to get our ATT letter and then you will be on your way. GOOD LUCK!!
  19. thanks yvonneRN2B; I JUST FEEL LIKE I WASTED MY TIME IN NSG SCHOOL. AND NOW I HAVE TO SIT FOR BOARDS WITH THE NEW FORMAT AND I HAVE TO SCORE HIGHER TO PASS NOW BECAUSE I CANNOT RETAKE UNTIL MAY. I KNOW EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND ALL I CAN DO IS PRAY ABOUT IT. I AM GOING TO TRY KAPLAN IF EVERYONE THINKS IT IS WORTH IT. IS THE ONLINE JUST AS GOOD AS THE CLASSROOM? THANKS MOMX2
