  1. Can I ask a quick question of any inpatient nurses. Does your floor (I am mostly looking at med/surg and PCU/stepdown) consider O2 sats a vitals sign (completed on every patient with their HR and temp etc) or does it have to be ordered separately by the physician that the o2 sats are checked? If it does have to be ordered separately, are the nurses responsible for it or your respiratory therapists? I work for a large, top 10 hospital, and I find it so strange that their requirements are not the same I have experienced at other facilities.
  2. I was super excited at first- now I am just dreading it haha. Congrats on getting in! I am going part time and taking the summers off, so it is going to take forever. I am not sure I could go straight through though. How about you? I am not starting till fall so I am anxious to see how you like it!
  3. They look over everything on the 1st of each month if I remember right. If you look online you should see an update any day now!
  4. I had a borderline GPA and applied to Frontier, Ball State, and Austin Peay (Regents). I have worked at Vanderbilt for 2 years on a surgical med/surg floor. I had a 3.0 in my ASN program and then I did an online (Ohio University) BSN program and had a 3.7. I was turned down by Frontier and Ball State but did get into the FNP program at Austin Peay. Now I just hope I can make it through the next 3 years! PS - I am from Cincinnati and went to UC for some of my undergrad. I also have a few friends doing their Adult NP there and they like it!
  5. Any updates on how the program is going for you guys? I got accepted to APSU for this fall and I haven't heard much about how it has went for people.
  6. In case you guys need help with your apt search these are some I know of, lived in, or looked at. Lenox Village Town Center Grand View Apartments The Lexington Avondale at Kennesaw Farms - Great apts and very affordable but not really near much The Landings of Brentwood- where I currently live- great apts about 30 min from work and in the middle of all sorts or food and shopping and celebrity homes. Please mention my name if you come here! Polo Park - I used to live there and it's decent. I am not sure if it was just my building (I was back in the woods) but I had a bit of a bug problem. It is in a good spot though and about 20 min to work. Waterford Place - Decent and afordable I haven't seen these but they are affordable and in a safe area- Hampton Chase Apts The Hamptons at Woodland Point Mission Bellevue Ridge Blackstone, Fairmont and Lee apartments - Very close to vandy Westboro - I have heard good things and also very close to Vandy Park West at Hillwood - I have not seen these but one of our residents lives here and she really likes it. Hope this helps narrow down some options!

  8. I got my official letter today! I am super excited/horrified! Good luck and keep me updated!
  9. Yeah it says Admit per Nursing Dept and Regular admission on my application status but I am so paranoid I keep thinking there is another step or something. I will probably call them tomorrow. I am doing the FNP with the straight through the summer part time option and doing 2 classes at a time.
  10. I dont know anyone who graduated from regents. I am still super excited though. When did you get all your info in?
  11. Yeah mine changed on the 5th of this month and mine was about a 3.0 exactly as well- although my last years when I finished my BSN my GPA was a 3.6. I didn't put in a request but I MTSU would have been my choice- but if I got in I don't care who does it lol. I turned in all the info around the 15th of January.
  12. Ah Good Luck! I am pretty sure I got in based on the application status online but I haven't gotten an official statement. It is making me super nervous. My GPA was questionable due to a rough time right out of high school and I wasn't sure I could get in anywhere. Do you live in Nashville? Are you doing the online?
  13. I applied to the online Regents program at Austin Peay and I was curious if anyone else was doing this. It looks like I might have gotten in based on their online application but I haven't gotten a final letter. I am super nervous. Anyone have any information?
  14. It is tough to find to find info on pay around here. A lot of it depends on your experience level. I believe the max out of my non icu floor is around 32.50 an hour base rate. I will say it is one of the best places to work and they pay similar to the other hospitals in the area. As far as places to live it depends if you are looking to rent or buy. I live in Cool Springs- between Brentwood and Franklin. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to work and it is a very safe area with great schools but its not cheap. My 2 bed/2 bath apt is 1000.00 a month. Most areas of Nashville are good just stay away from Antioch, South Nashville Neighborhood, and the East Nashville Neighborhood. The Donelson/Hermitage area is affordable but I am not sure about the schools. The Bellevue area is also nice but again I am not sure about the schools.
  15. I am not sure if you have signed a lease yet. I havent heard much about Nashboro Village. I know a lot of the apt complexes around nashville if you need any help.
  16. When I first came to Nashville I interviewed at Baptist, Centennial, and Vanderbilt. They are all great options but I took the Vanderbilt offer and I love it here. I have also heard good things about Centennial and the Ob at Baptist. The pay rates were similar at all three.
  17. Hey guys! I am glad to see you have started a post for the next residency program. I am a nurse at Vanderbilt and am one of the preceptors used for the med-surg track. You guys have chosen a wonderful program! Our nurse residents are often our favorite employees. Although I was not a nurse resident myself I wanted to make myself available for any questions you have about the hospital or about Nashville. I moved to Nashville about a year and a half ago and didn't have any real contacts so it was a hard transition. I would love to help make yours a little easier! Hope to talk to some of you soon!

  19. I have an interview tomorrow at Vanderbilt and am super nervous. I have been a nurse for a year but have always wanted to work at Vanderbilt. I am keeping my fingers crossed I can pull off a good interview.
  20. I would apply for anything that doesn't say NO NEW GRADS once it gets later - I was hired at Covenant before my NCLEX. I think I applied once I scheduled my NCLEX or close to graduation. Covenant is a decent place to work and pretty much the main option in Knoxville. I know the reputation of Parkwest is very good.
  21. yeah I did - it just has a lot of info that is not clear- information about possibly needing more gen ed classes etc. I was just curious if anyone had done it that could help clarify
  22. Has anyone transfered their liscense to TN? I have a job lined up and my current liscense is in Ohio. I am wondering how difficult this process is going to be. I want to start my job ASAP and am worried something will get held up at the board. Thanks!
  23. If you are wanting to get a degree in nursing I would go for it. Nurses are having a hard time getting jobs right out of school but they are still having more luck than most of my friends that got other degrees. I have friends that are engineers and buisness majors and they cant find jobs either. If it is what you want to do I would go for it- just keep in mind that you need to make good connections with people and that you may need to relocate in order to find a new grad job. I just graduated in May 2010 and I applied all over the country and ended up getting a job in Knoxville TN before I even took my NCLEX. Some states are hiring more than others. IF you can't relocate I would try to get a job in a hospital that you like while your in nursing school or really try to make good connections with management while your in school. It can be done it's just not as easy as it used to be. You have to be more open to whatever is available. It used to be you just picked your hours and speciality and you were set. Good Luck!
  24. :-( I am sorry. I am trying to figure out the validity of the pearson vue trick myself. I think it looks like it is pretty accurate but I am not positive. :-( Just keep your head up - if you did that many questions you were probably close to passing so if you didn't pass I am sure with some more review you will get it next time! I had several friends that took two times to pass it.
  25. I did the virtual ATI and made a lot of "charts" for items I always forget. I would do charts on GI diseases and adrenal problems and would make them super colorful so that I could try to rememebr by colors etc. I also looked up a lot of the pneumonics and they were really helpful! I also made a notebook of things I always forgot and I reviewed that every day along with my virtual ATI questions. I passed with 75 questions and was THRILLED
