  1. Children need a happy mom and dad no matter what you choose. Dont count on being one up just because of the job offer. As long as you can feel joy every day the kids will learn by your example. after 30 years of all shifts all types of nursing, My kids are now a RN, A Dental Hygeinist, and a Teacher. No tatooes, no drugs, no piercings. No criminal records!! During their pre and teen years i worked 11 to 7 to be available to them . Also their friends knew that there was always an adult in the home. I could alwys re arrange my sleeping to be able to do things with them.
  2. There was an instructor on our floor. She got a job herself later on this floor. She was terrible. She eventually was fired from the hospital. Then she was rehired. She also had an affair with the husband of a long term employee. As a nurse the doctors didnt want her taking care of their patients. She didnt know enough to put a mag bolus on a pump. Eventually she got her FNP and moved on with the husband of the long term employeee. So sad. What a terrible role model for young nurses. They should be screened.
  3. Have you ever thought of NICU. It is fascinating. Less stress on your body. Your mind can handle it if you work ER.
  4. Night shift is where I learned the most. More time to review the charts and understand what the doctors were plannning. Less distractions. Family members are always going to be in a near p anic state so you have to tolerate them on any shift. I became closer to the nurses on the night shift. I have been anurse for over 30 years. still working. mostly eves to stay away form the confusion of day shift.
  5. My sister oriented one day in central supply, no one oriented with her so when she left she told the Guild Ladies she quit!
  6. You will find that it seems every pt and family member lie about real names, drugs, whose is married, who is the father of the baby etc. Family members always want you to bend the rules for their special daughter. flu season limts vhildren as vistitors. People will sneak sick kids in coughing and hacking. The govt pts always have money for fast food cig and cell phones and video cameras. Lying to get more freebies. I dont think that I am good at tolerating the pts and their families anymore. I just tell them dead babys are no fun.
  7. A new graduate from Dental hygeine school makes more than a nurse of over 30 years experience. I know she is my daughter!!!!!!!
  8. It is definately more challengeing to work with pregnant moms and babes whom you can not see, feel or hear. Dont cross off land d yet.
  9. I always thought that the anesthesia was the reason to delay driving.j That if you were involved in an accident that the insurance companies would not pay.
  10. Famous indianapolis adoption lawyers handled the case but faliled to straightn out the transition to insurance costing the family thousands of dollars.
  11. the insurance company would not pay for the babys hospital bill although it was biologically the fathers baby. at first they wanted the birth certificate and then they wanted the birth certificatte to prove that the wife adopted the surrogates baby. The baby is now two years old. The insurance would not pay for the pediatricians either. How can this be happening.
  12. I too would love to hear from the nurses in that area.
  13. I commuted for two years . It was one and one half hours each way. My husband could not move. It was well worth it.
  14. I long to live in Florida but will have to work as a labor and delivery nurse. Does any hospital help the spouses find a job? We may keep our home in se indiana and buy a small cheap mobile home in a community somewhere where we can make ends meet. Any suggestions for a place on the gulf west coastal area or central?
