Okay, you made a mistake. However your preceptor also made a very big mistake. she is your life line, she should have been going behind you, monitering these things as well...thats her job of being a preceptor. You are in a new very overwheliming situation, between the paper work and the rules and regs you have to learn, the patients you have to moniter and just trying to adjust from being a student to being a "real Nurse" you are going to make mistakes. I would like to know if she was brought into the loop when the ***t hit the fan. If not she should have been, just to realise that she should have also owned up to "missing " it....Please, get a good nites sleep, start fresh on the next shift. We all make mistakes as nurses, we are human, thats the best part of being a nurse. we are human...........There is a saying, That that dosent kill us, makes us stronger..and this will always remind you to check your vitals more carefully im sure....Good Luck P.S. Your a great nurse, i can tell that because this is worring you so......

First I think your careplan is good. Second i hated careplanning too. Third, when i was in nursing school, going through it with a girlfriend of mine, Christmas came and she gave me the most wonderful gift. A CARE PLANNING BOOK...... you can buy them at any book store. They have wonderful plans in there and great ideas to subsidize your own....Good Luck!!! :roll

Dear Ladybug, OMG, im so glad you stood up for yourself here!!!!! that post was uncalled for. We as nurses are usually more compassionate than that. And before she jumps on me too, we all make mistakes, you have, i have, the BON has.. Its people like you who intimidate the people like her and make her feel inadequate. How dare you??? What she did was wrong, but not unheard of. She got into a tough situation and im sure she was petrified. Im not saying it was right, just understandable. Maybe when some of you nurses get off your moral high ground phrases like " nurses eat thier young" will dissapear. As for you ladybug, Good luck, God bless, and remain true to your self :)

Dear Charlotte, May I say CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU !!! The first day is the scariest of all, sounds like the same thing i did. i had 2 children 4 yrs and 2 yrs, when i started my LPN program, what a long strange trip it has been since i graduated 10+ yrs ago. I wouldnt trade it for the world, i hate it, i love it, and i wouldnt do any other "job" in the world. I'm not going to candy coat school for you, it will be hard, it will be frustrating and it will be one of the most demanding undertakings you have ever completed, and when they put that shiney gold pin on your lapel it will be one of your proudest moments of your life and the beginning of a wonderfully demanding career. NCDIANE, I hope you dont mind me popping into this discussion, but im planning on moving to NC very soon, the southport area, I'm an LPN, want to go on to my RN, is there an accelerated program at the college you spoke about, any info would be helpful, even a web site i could look at.. thank you Liz

This sounds so familiar, I'm an LPN, constantly being compared to the RN, but in the larger scheme of things, we are there for the paitent,not our egos. I do plan to go on for my RN. Not to say im an RN, but to further my education in the hopes of furthering my patients and family knowledge of thier disease process.. I will remember how i started out in this field, a nurses aid, for 10 years , then a nursing student, where im sure the term, "eat thier young came from", i've been an LPN for 10 years now, soon my RN. I will treat all health care workers i come across with respect, isn't that what it's all about anyway?

I also live with chronic pain, have you tried a pain management clinic, one that only deals with pain???? LIZ :)

I too have chronic pain, one hotly discussed here and there as an in your head disease. :angryfire . I have fibryomylagia as well as 4 herniated disks. im curious to know how do you deal with your pain while at work, and if im not being to nosey,may i ask what is your pain due to?? Thanks Liz

:angryfire I'm so mad at these posts i could spit, i too have FM, as well as spinal stenosis,3 herniated disks, 2 mild disk bulges, thats at c 3-4,c 4-5,c 5-6 small herniation, this is all compounded by the FM, a back spasm can lay me out for 2 days straight, but i have to work. How sad for other- wise intelligent ,successful nurses, to just blow off a condition they havent reaserched, i take percocet and flexaril to ease those spasms that could land me in the ED, just to make it through the day some times, i have 3 children a husband and more stress in my life than i'd like to admit, so when some one comes to my snf and thier dx is one of many including FM, im particularly aware of the pain and suffering that can and does go on. A day with spasms and pain is a day from H*ll, Please take a look at the patient and the sorounding circumstsances before you pass any judgement. Untill you walk a day in my shoes, or thier shoes, thank GOD, you are blessed by not having too!!

I know this sounds uncaring, but, why were you putting your hand in the sharps container. Please get tested for your own peace of mind. Your DON/home owner does not have the authority to test for such diseases unless she has permission to do so in the first place...those tests are not routine like a cbc,urine, or eve cxr. take care, my prayers are with you
