  1. I would do the community college. You can finish all of your prereqs while you are on the waiting list, and just enjoy life for awhile. Go part time and get those beginning classes out of the way.
  2. I start Fall 2012!! I was called last week to move up, someone declined their spot!! I have orientation wednesday and can drop my fall classes that I had registered for (non-nursing classes). I am so excited! We have all worked so hard to get here! Good luck to all of you!
  3. I got moved up on our waitlist to start this fall. A year early! Just found out last week. I am thinking the same thing, I want to brush up on A&P, because its been a while. Maybe some NCLEX stuff. Good luck to all of you who start this fall!
  4. You decide your own fate. There are much harder things out there in the world than nursing school. There are some that "deserve" to make it because they have put all of their heart and soul into graduating and becoming a nurse. Communicate with your teacher, tell him/her why you feel the way you do. Keep your nose in the books, and your chin up. This is not up to the teacher, and if you have a problem with them do not be afraid to communicate.
  5. My mom was diagnosed in October, during my second year of prereqs. I just get annoyed with all of the complaining after seeing people who truly deserve to complain.. Maybe, I have a bad attitude towards certain students or a bad attitude towards their bad attitude. Either way, I should ignore them. I'm glad that there is someone who understands, and gets annoyed like I do with unwarranted complaining. (Sorry for the circumstances, but a lot of people around me do not understand this.) I think watching my mom go through what she has gone through, has also furthered my drive towards nursing. I owe it all to the incredible chemo nurses that could bring a smile to my mom's face when she was sick. I thought I was the only one that gets mad about people complaining about a bad hair day, when right before I was asked to shave my mom's head. And Cancer is a the smack in the face that made me see deeper into life way faster than I would have ever imagined. Thank you for sharing your story, I totally understand where you are coming from :redpinkhe
  6. Congratulations!!!! What a blessing! I would not want to work for a place that would not hire me when I was pregnant. You have kids and they are going to have to understand that. I would take things one day at a time....and I have personally hidden a pregnancy on a job interview (not for nursing- I'm not quite there yet.) I was almost 5 months pregnant and got hired while wearing a VERY baggy sweater and keeping my hands in front of my belly. Good LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS!! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy : )
  7. I almost bought a Trapper Keeper binder the other day. I saw them at CVS pharmacy, and thought that it would be neat to be able to zip up all of my papers so nothing could ever fall out! But....my lisa frank stickers will not stick to the front of those binders : ( My back pack now is Jansport, but its a messenger bag- I can carry just about everything in it! Its pink and brown and has hearts on it. Maybe one of these days I will grow up and move on from all of my middle school supplies.
  8. I just keep getting annoyed at all of the complaining. I wish there were more than 3 people out of 30, that actually enjoy learning and want to help people. I ask people in this class why they want to be a nurse and the number one answer: "The paycheck." I hate that. I know that at the end of the day, everyone that works wants to make a paycheck but DO NOT go into nursing if all you care about is money. The majority of our class is doing horrible on the exams because they think that the professor is going to hand them the answers. I will tell them that I saw some answer in the book, and they act shocked that it was in there....IF YOU READ THE CHAPTER IT WILL HELP YOU. She is not going to put every answer to every question on the study guide. She doesn't even have to make a study guide if she doesn't want to! I just wish that this class could be more fun, with people that have positive attitudes. I have never seen so many negative people in my life, and all they do is place the blame for their poor grades on others! I guess my attitude boils down to the fact that my mom just got done with chemotherapy for breast cancer. I saw some AWESOME nurses and lots of really sick people at her cancer center (she was one of them for the last few months) and I just cannot stand to hear a person say that a paycheck motivates them to go into nursing. I think being around the cancer patients made me despise complaining about trivial things. This is why this thread, is going to be one of my only complaints about school. Im not sick, I have a great family and a great opportunity to go to college. What could be better than that?!?
  9. I just hate the word bank idea... no one is going to give you a word bank when you are working with a patient. You have to work hard for this kind of an achievement, its not gonna be just handed to anyone. I wouldn't vent normally, but this has been every single class so far: NON STOP WHINING. It's driving me nuts.
  10. We have a very early withdraw date where you would receive reimbursement for your tuition. Then, we have a withdraw date that occurs about 5-6 weeks into the course, so you should have an idea of how you are doing at that point. The downside of the later withdraw is you do not get any reimbursement. We have the rule of you must have higher than C's to continue on, but if this was just 1 hard class for you- Go for your goals. Try to withdraw and get the incomplete. Every school is different, Ive seen multiple people fail out of RN school to go on to become LPNs and then bridge back over to RN. You can take classes at a community college to build up your GPA before entering nursing courses or a waiting list. And most community colleges don't use grades for general admissions (entering as an adult.) you just wouldn't be eligible for financial aid and could be on academic probation for a semester or two.. Weigh out your options and good luck.
  11. This is more of a vent.... but I am currently in A&P II and I don't know how many times I hear the following things from other students: 1. Can we have a word bank on our exams? 2. This teacher is horrible, the tests are worded so bad. (Really- She spells it out on the study guide.) 3. Why is she being so hard on us? 4. I hear nursing is easier because you don't have to read from the text. 5. WORST PET PEEVE: while looking at a picture of a pathological condition- a pack of girls say how disgusting and nasty the disease is. Is that what you are going to say to the patient who has this condition in the future? Sadly, the one condition they were making fun of was lymphedema...which really isn't "nasty" I could think of much worse. We were supposed to have a specific teacher that decided to take a different career path. I guess the previous teacher was a cake walk. I didn't have him for A&P I and had to work my buns off for the A that I earned. I just don't understand why all of these people are complaining non-stop about the amount of difficulty and reading. It is hard, but the nursing program is WAY HARDER. They make remarks during lecture, talk the whole time and wonder why they barely passed an exam or got a D. The fact that they are making fun of ill people, TOTALLY disgusts me. I wonder why they even want to be nurses if they don't want to put the work into it, and if they can't feel empathy for someone experiencing an illness. I want to say to them: This is not going to be easy, Why are you here? You are a waste of space on the waiting list... I hope you don't hurt anyone due to the fact that you hate to study or listen to what the teacher says. Why don't you stop while you are not ahead? Venting session over
  12. At my college, we have a date that you must withdraw by. If you withdraw by that date you get an incomplete, which does't effect your GPA. I just had a friend that failed one of her nursing courses and went on to try for her BSN. Anything is possible. Good luck and don't sell those books just yet.
  13. If I were you, I would think of this like an exam: know as much as you can before you step foot in there. I also like to think of the patient: do they want someone who doesn't know their condition to be taking care of them? probably not. Put your self in their shoes- what kind of nursing student would you want practicing on you, one that works their butt off to know their stuff or one that gets intimidated and backs down. Its a lot of information at one time, but if you work hard it will pay off. You can do this!
  14. Wish list: Hello Kitty book bag or purse, Lisa Frank t-shirt, sleeping bag and stickers. My husband looks at my binders decorated in stickers and asks me if I am 12 years old. I just miss this stuff, and it makes me happy! FYI: hello kitty tv show is on netflix : )
  15. At christmas time, I actually bought a huge lipstick tube full of lisa frank goodies for myself. I just had to have it! Its good to know that I'm not the only one that still loves those designs.
