I everyone! I work in an outpatient clinic, and I do two or three infusions a month of Aredia, Reclast, and Ramicade. I am an RN with no other certifications than BCLS. My question is: does the ordering physician or PCP have to be in the building, or is it enough with the Urgent Care or on-call Dr being present? Thank you!

I do havet license. Now, my current employer asked me if I had heard anything, and I said no. Then, she went to talk to her boss and came back witha counter offer. They want me to stay and besides a raise now, they offer me a revision in 6 months with the chance of another raise. She gave me the chance to think about it until Monday, though I already made my decision: I'll stay. I'll do what I enjoy doing for more money!

I was offered a job two days ago; the recruiter told me only the pay rate, and after two days I haven't heard from human resources. How weird is that?

An update: So today I received the call from the recruiter. They offered me the job, though they still have to give me everything in writing. They pay is very good, and the benefits are great too. I told my current employer, and she's very happy for me, but she wants to help me review all the paperwork before I sign anything to make sure I will be going to a better job. I am sort of scared, but I guess it is normal. Right? Well, I just wanted to tell you how things were going. :)

The manager explained to me what the position is and the Director asked three questions: tell about yourself, how do you handle conflict and why do you think I should hire you. They were pretty easy going, though the manager seem to have wanted more questions from my end. Idk, I just wish for the best.

Hi Everyone I had the first interview three weeks ago. I didn't think much of it because I didn't know what it was. I went to the interview because the interviewer who was trying to get me an RN job for the past years asked me to just go, w/o compromises. I thought that was the least I could do to show how grateful I am for his help, even though I already have a job. So I went to the interview, which was held at a lunchroom (mind that lol). The person who interviewed me was the Director of IC of the corporation. She explained to me what the position was about since I told her that the only thing I knew about IC was from the books, and I had no experience in that field. She was very enthusiastic about the job, and said that she thought I could be a goo match for it. I was supposed to send an e-mail two days after to find out about the next step, but I didn't because I wan't really interested. Now they called me for a second interview, and after doing some research I find it actually very interesting. Now I want the job, and I am afraid I am not prepared for this interview. Is there any thoughts or advises you can give me? I need your seasoned knowledge to guide me through this interview process. PLEASE!!! I forgot to mention that the position is a Trainee position, which would be for a year at least before I can move up to IC practitioner. your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone! I started my first job as an RN a week ago. I am working half time in urgent care and the other half I do annual physicals with elderly patients. I am supposed to get everything done in 40 minutes. Basically, I do VS control, EKG, ABI, PFT, Bone density measurement, Draw blood for labs, take pt to xray, and conduct nursing interview. I can get all the studies and blood draw in time, but what is more difficult to me is the interview. Every time I ask a question, the patients give me a long story that barely relates to the question. Most pts have lost their spouses, so they keep referring to their lives back then when their spouses were alive. I like listening to their stories :) however, because of the time limit, I know I have to interrupt them in the middle of a story tp get an appropriate answer and continue with the next question, and I can't help feeling rude and insensitive. I love listening to old people stories. My grandma has Alzheimer's and I can listen to the same story over and over and never get tired or frustrated. So how do you think I could handle the interview? I mostly use open ended questions, should I used closed, yes/no questions instead? Any advices that would help me get through the interview process a little bit faster? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone!! It's been a while, but I thought I would give you an update. I read every one of your post, and I deeply appreciate all your input, concerns, and advices. I took all of them very seriously, and I brought the LVN/RN concern to this lady. When I completed the hiring paperwork, I wrote RN in the title. Later, I called human resources and asked if they were ok with the title and they said ok. In my first week, the MD's and administration held a meeting to which I was invited. The lady presented me as the new RN who was gonna be running a special project and would also train to be an urgent care nurse. So far so good. I see that this place might be taking advantage of my need for a job, so they will pay me a lot less than I should get paid, but as long as I get the experience as an RN, the money is not important for now. I can walk to my work, I am getting my hands-on experience, and I still make good money (much better than as a receptionist.. :) This lady is a good person, which doesn't mean she's not a business woman. When she said she could get me in a NICU setting she meant that she's friends with a GYN MD who works at the hospital I eventually want to work at. She said she could put in a good word for me. Granted, it won't guarantee me a job in NICU, but how can she put in a Good word for me, if she doesn't know me as a nurse? I trust her and so does every one at the clinic. Again, I thank all of you who took the time to read my post and give me advice. If it weren't for you, I would have risked a lot.

Hi Everyone! I graduated in Argentina 10 years ago, and I worked there as a NICU Lvl III RN for 4 years. Then, I moved to US, and it took me 3 1/2 years to learn English to be able to pass the NCLEX, which I did 1 1/2 years ago. Ever since, I have been looking for a job, without any luck until now. Last Saturday I was introduced to a clinic's administrator. This lady could not believe that I hadn't been able to find a job given the "nursing shortage" in the country. She said her daughter, who is also an RN, has to turn down many shifts because she doesn't have time to work all the days the registry wants her to! The lady then offered me to work at her clinic as an LVN as they don't hire RN because of their budget. She said she could have me train in many different areas and get experience. Thus, after 6 months or a year, I will be able to start looking for an RN job. When that moment comes, she said that she will say I was actually an RN, so I won't get that "oh, but you still don't have RN experience" Also, she said that after a while, she might even be able to help me get into a NICU setting because of my previous experience in that field... As she was telling me all this, I could not believe what my ears were hearing. It sounds unreal, like a dream. I will go Sunday to get to know the place; I'll start training in Urgent Care :) OH!!!, WOW, I am so happy, so, so happy!!! I'll be wearing scrubs and working as a nurse again!!! :heartbeat:yeah:

Ok, so I just read a post about Craigstlist and a weird job/interview process, and I got a little scared. Not solong ago, I was interviewd and offered a job at a Palliative Care place. The position was per-diem. They said they'd call me as soon as they got a new case, so they could teach me the initial interview process, but they have not called me at all. I wasn't worried, and I even forgot about them. Until I read that post today. They've got all my information since I completed all the paperwork for a new hire. Now I'm worried. Can they use my RN license? I know for sure I have to run a check on my SS# because that could get me in serious trouble if they used it. But how can I find out if my license has been used? Any thoughts?

Miss Liss, You have the right to seek encouragement and support as well as everyone here. I understand your situation and agree with you that you have the right to choose where you want to work. A few months ago, I went to an interview at a cosmetic place, and even though they didn't call me, I had decided that I wasn't comfortable selling botox (maybe they sensed it and that's why they didn't call me ). I do not agree with whoever posted that beggars can't choose. You should not engage in any activity you feel uncomfortable with, or could wind up in a very dangerous situation (including, like you mentioned, jeopardizing your license) However, I do agree with others that it hasn't been too long since you graduate. I got my license on April 2010 and no job yet I also own my house, but I don't have a husband that pays for bills...I am on my own Still, I don't loose hope. Everything will work out eventually. So don't desperate, I'm sure you'll find something soon. :)

Hi everyone! It has been a year and four months since I got my license in the US. I applied to hundreds of places, went to two interviews, got dozens of phone calls, but nothing had happened. About two months ago, I even went on Craigslist and applied to 15 RN positions. From this, I got a call from a well known nursing staffing agency, and the only reason they couldn't hire me is because I don't have experience... ... All of the sudden, I get a call and job offer to be a immunization nurse at one company, and the same person from the staffing agency called me two days ago and wanted me to go in for an interview. I reminded her about my lack of experience, and she said, well let me talk to my manager. I thought I wouldn't hear from her, but she called me an hour later to say that they still want me to come in for the application and interview process :redpinkhe I am going today, and I am super anxious as I don't know what to expect. All I know is that it is a part time home care for a pediatric patient. I have been skimming through some info about pediatrics, but really, if I don't have experience, how much can they really expect me to know? I am excited because I really want to start working as a nurse already. So I got one seasonal part time job, and one interview for the second part time today... And even though I know that today's interview can either end up in a job offer or in nothing, I am super happy!!!!:redbeathe I just wanted to share this with you. If you have any comments or advices, they will be greatly appreciated!

True. I am a medical assistant too, and even though I am registered, I would not do anything behond my scope. I used to work for a doctor that had MA's do blood draws (with no phlebotomist cert.) He wanted me to do it too saying that I'd be working under his authorization; plus, "no one" would ever find out as if anything happened, he would deny everything... Good luck with that! I quit that job as soon as I could. At that time, I was trying to get the BON authorization to take the NCLEX, and there was no way I would risk my future for that job. Honestly, some private practice owners need to take a look to the laws.

From what I've heard, Kindred Hospitals are LTACs and they are a great company to work for. Again, this is just word of mouth. I don't know if there is one close to where you live; here in So Cali are like 10. If you can get a job there (or in any LTAC) I would think that your chances to get into an hospital wil be better. I agree with other people that you DO HAVE EXPERIENCE. LTCs are no longer the simple med pass/ VS control type of job. They are much more complex now a days. Wish you the best :)

I agree with others that you should not wait too much to take the exam. I took a review course with Kaplan because I graduated back in 2002, and let me tell you that those 6 weeks, though very intense, prepared me for the exam. Their practice q's are just like the ones in the NCLEX. I passed with only 75 questions, and I can surely bet that every single question had something that Kaplan course taught me. I'm not trying to sell Kaplan here, but if you are already practicing questions, I think you'll be fine in 2.5 weeks for your exam. When the day comes, remember to: A) Take the previous evening off. Go out for a light dinner or hang out with someone: make sure you get NCLEX off your mind for a few hours prior your exam. That'll help you relax and set down everything you studied. B) Get a good night of sleep!!!! C) Take a deep breath once you are there. Remember that you did study A LOT, and all that info is in your head. Just relax, and let your brain do its job I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you all for the responses! It is true that most people that go to cosmetic clinics DO know what they want, in which case the only thing I'd do is to make sure they do it. However, there is something in the enphasis the Dr. put into being "comfortable selling" that made me feel that I'd be pressured into making certaing amount of sales to be considered "competitive". On the one hand, I like the new challenge, but on the other hand I fear that the selling part will mess me up. I am just not meant to be in the retail field (specially when it comes to nursing) Hahaha! Look at me, I don't even know if they're gonna call me back, and I am all stressed out... Thanks again. You guys make this whole process a lot easier! :)

That is the question the Dr. who interviewed me asked me today. I went to the second interview I landed in one year of applications. I prepared for all kinds of questions and I researched about the company, but none of that was needed. The interview was 7 min long. He introduced himself and asked me if I knew about dermatological nursing. I responded that I did not have direct experience, but I was eager to learn and that I learn fast. He said that they had entry level positions, so it didn't really matter if I didn't have experience. They would train me on the job. THEN, he said that what was really stressfull in dermatological nursing was that nurses actually do a lot: Botox injections (for which he would train me), and stitches for minor surgical procedures (he would also train me on this). But the main issue here was that I would have to meet weekly with a marketing/sales/botox committee to learn/improve Botox sales techniques. And then he asked me "Are you going to be comfortable selling botox?". Of course I said yes, but as soon as I got out of the facility, I felt that, if they offered me the job and I took it, I'd be more a saleswoman than a nurse. I had the impresion that if I am not able to sell the product, I would not be a good option for this job. I was so excited when I got the call for the interview, but now I'm not so sure. I still have to get that second call; however, I never pictured myself "selling" treatment. And what's worse, I know I shouldn't be picky after all this time of not even getting an interview, but I don't want to risk my license or the stability I have now. At least, now I have a very stable job whereas if I take this other job, and I don't meet their sales expectations, I'll be jobless. Wow, sorry for the long post. I needed to take this out of my chest. Does anyone agree with me that there is something wrong/missing in this nursing job I interviewed for? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Last night I did a little research about what they do there, and I gathered some info about the Dr. It seems I might be interviewing with him Well, the interview is 2 hours away.
