  1. I am a new nurse that is hoping to soon be an employee in corrections. I have read alot about all the information on this forum about correctional nursing and just have some questions about the professional boundraries issue. I understand the importance of being firm, fair, and consistent. What I want to know though is what that looks like. Do you typically address an inmate by sir? What kind of questions are allowed to be asked (I assume those pertinent to your assessment such as are you in pain, if so where, what kind of pain, when did this start, a general how you are feeling ect). And any further detail on firm fair and consistent. Thanks for any insight and I know these questions may seem silly I just am looking for some wisdom from those who have done this a while!
  2. Attrition rate has been a total of 3 of the 28 we started with. Studying the worst quarter is four and then three is close behind (some have said four is easier than three but we had a hard teacher for a course that was traditionally really easy). The first few quarters can be challenging as you become familiar with the nursing process, and nclex questions meaning you may be studying three hours some days and little others it really is individual though i have classmates that have studied less than that. To help with that I would purchase a Nclex review book ASAP after entering the program and start reviewing practice questions for whatever section you are on. It will definetly help! Let me know if you have other questions
  3. Could anyone let me know what working in nursing home is like compared to a hospital type of environment? I am considering nursing home positions as I like working with the elderly. THanks for the help !
  4. Is it hard getting into the USPHS what kind of credentials are they looking for?
  5. Does anybody know where current shortages are the worst? I am graduating in August and want to be able to find a job before finishing! Any advice about the application process would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Is it possible to find ICU positions with USPHS. It seems like more are centered around medical surgical or occupational health type of nursing. I am interested in critical care but am also open to anything! THanks!
  7. I was wondering if certain nurse specialities deploy more than others. I am not against deployment but am married and want to consider that as I weigh the decision! Thanks for the info in advance.
  8. Has anybody heard about shortening of army deployments? I know that up until now the Air force and Navy had shorter deployments but have heard that that is now happening for army medical officers to (only the medical branch though). Thanks!
  9. Hi I am wondering if any IHS hospitals are near to major cities? It seems like some are but I am interested in ICU so any help you can give is great! Thanks
  10. Hi I was wondering if anybody understands how to read the application status screen. My lists all the required paperwork does that mean I have completed it and they have it or that they are waiting for it? Thanks for the help!
  11. Danskos are hard to get use to but with time they grow to be great! They just have a long period to break them in. Don't give up right away!
  12. I agree. Cincinnati Childrens is a phenomenal institution to work for! They have a very extensive introduction for new grads, great benefits, and all the staff are supportive of new nurses!
  13. Hey All i am currently in the Fourth and second to final quarter of the program. It is definietly fast paced but doable. Just so you are aware they say its an accelerated MSN program. However really it is a BSN with a course or two that helps towards your MSN which is different than what I had thought. Hopefully that helps!
  14. How do you get 15 posts?
  15. Does anybody have contact info for Butner North Carolina medical facility. I am applying to the USPHS and am finishing my BSN degree in August. I am heavily interested in that facility thanks!
  16. Hi I am glad that their are a lot of air force members answering questions. The one I would like to ask is how often do nurses deploy compared to other professions? I have seen lists of the most deployed fields and was just wondering if anyone knows how often nurses deploy in the air force! Thanks for the help.
