  1. I had a interview at Corcoran state prison. I felt like it went well, I interviewed with two women who were unit directors I think. They asked questions pertaining to patient assessment and interventions, which were not too difficult if you can keep your nerves on check and remain clear headed. These were questions anyone should know if they went to school and passed the NCLEX. It was last week and I have not heard anything yet, so I am checking my mail with anticipation everyday. I applied to the vacancy on the state website about two months ago, I received a letter asking me if I was interested about a month ago, and then received a interview request letter about two weeks ago. Hopefully I get good new soon. I have another interview next week as well.
  2. Yes, I have a interview this week at a state prison as a RN. I was wondering what the actual interview is like, and what is it like to work at a prison, i.e. do you like it, do you feel safe?
  3. Did you get the job? If so, what was your orientation like? I am a new graduate applying for a prison job too, thanks.
  4. I am applying as a new grad as well. How did your interview go and did you get the job? Do you like it?
  5. I have a interview soon as well. How did your go? What sort of questions did they ask you?
  6. I have a interview this week in a CA state prison. How did your interview go and what did they ask you? I have been looking for about six months for a new grad job and can't find anything. Prison Health Care has become a last option.
  7. How do you like it there? I have an interview at Corcoran soon. I live in Los Angeles, but can not find any jobs locally. What are the schedules like? Do you feel safe? Thanks.
  8. I graduated last June and have sent also too many applications to count. I did my ADN and have my RN license and now going back to get my BSN. If the job market is still terrible when I'm done I am seriously considering joining the Navy Nurse Corps, which is a worst case scenario. They have great benefits and would offer awesome training, but the idea of being their property for three years is scary. However, its that or I don't know what else.
  9. Thats great. Congratulations. I ordered the ENA test book. How much time would you say you studied?
  10. Thanks. What studying material or resources do you recommend in preparation for this test?
  11. I have looked into the several different schools out there and I recommend Chamberlain School of Nursing. Look them up online. They a totally online RN-BSN fast track option that can be done in one year, or less depending on how many classes you take and what courses you have already taken. I think they are the best option. I start in July. I can not find work either. How can you get experience if no one wants to hire a new grad!
  12. Thats true, however I hope to make my self stand out among all the other applicants and hope a BSN will help. I can't even get through the initial screening and into a interview. Also, I am going to start studying to become a certified emergency nurse (CEN). Again, hopefully this will help. It tough here is southern CA.

  14. That is what I would have done, yet I tried all the local colleges through the cal state system and I would not be able to start until Fall of 2011. I think budget problems are causing all these problems with admission. I did my associates through a community college, so I saved plenty of money there. With a online university I can begin like next month.
  15. I have my ADN and can not find work, so looking into getting my BSN from an online school, such as chamberlain. They claim this can be done in less than a year and this is highly attractive since I want to earn my BSN ASAP and hopefully start working very soon. When applying, do nursing recruiters look down on these types of schools. I mean, they are accredited so they should be just as good as any brick and mortar school. Just wondering how this will result in employment opportunities before investing time and money. Thanks!
