  1. "anklebiters"... love it! And it's so right on the money too!!!!
  2. I just started today. I am 44 and am in a class of about 120 people. By the rough count I made there's about 1 guy for every 5 women. Glad I'm in my 40's and have seen and done it all already. I don't think I could have handled it in my 20's!!!!
  3. I'm 44 and I say amen to that. Seen it blow up in many friends' and coworkers' faces... not worth the drama!!!
  4. Yeah craig, that's great! Never too late!!
  5. Hey guys, this was in the NY Times today about men going into nursing. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/22/your-money/displaced-men-trade-blue-collar-jobs-for-nursing.html?ref=businessspecial5
  6. LOL rockallnight really? Interior design? Do you get a lot of crap from your guy friends? I have at work, but I'm kind of used to it by now. I tell them all that someday I will be giving them a catheter and I'll remember all the s**t they gave me. I'll be so upset that my hands will start to shake and tremble. They fill in the blanks from there...
  7. Good for you emarosa. It's great that you're young enough to know what you want to at that age. I certainly didn't. You'll have a nice long career in one of the fastest growing, most secure fields out there. What you may lack in life experience you'll (hopefully) make up for in energy, enthusiasm, and teachability. Good luck dude...
  8. Thanks smg. 5 posts, woot woot!!
  9. Thanks smg... I think I did find it. It was "BHSN Technical 2012". Either that or the "BHSN Powderpuff 2012" one, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't that! Appreciate the help. p.s. you can PM after you've posted 15 times.
  10. For you BHSN people, this is from the school's website as of today, 5/3/12: Is there a time limit on transferable courses? Science courses must not be older than 7 years. Exceptions to this will be considered on a case by case basis by the Admissions Committee. There is no time limit on any of the other courses.
  11. I looked but only found "... 2011". I will look again today. A few more posts and I'll be able to PM.
  12. May I ask, CT Pixie, WHERE you went to school? Was a CT CC program. I will be attending Bpt (BHSN) this fall. I may have 1 or 2 science classes that fall into this category. Does the "7 year rule" apply to when you BEGAN the program or when you GRADUATE? (i.e. must they be 7 or less when you start the program or when you finish?)
  13. I'm 44 now. I started taking pre-reqs a few years back at a partnering CC. I got in for Fall 2012 at the local NS and it's a 2 yr program, so I'll be 46 when I get out. Like many of you, it's something I've thought of doing for a while and it's finally going to happen. PSYCHED!!
  14. I can't PM yet, I'm a noobie to this site. I need like 10 more postings to get that privelige. I'll do it by next week then PM you. Thanks
  15. Try again smg08009, not there as of midnight Wed...
  16. if you guys set one up let me know i'll join
  17. p.s. for all you other 2012 male nurses (murses), this is a GREAT poster I got off this site!
  18. Got my letter last week and brought the acceptance letter and $150 check(ouch) today IN PERSON to the school. I live just a mile away and didn't want to take any chances with it. Looking forward to seeing you guys this September. I have friends that have gone through it already. First semester's not too bad, just stick with it and put in the time every day. It doesn't start to get hairy until the 2nd semester! :flamesonbLooking forward to seeing you all there. BenjaminV, here's the link to the Federal financial aid website. Hope this helps. BTW, you need to have the application to the Fed in by May 1st for the Fall semester, so do it by Monday! Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid
  19. F'ing awesome!!
  20. I heard that the 2nd test today did not go well for a lot of people. What was the average?
  21. Ok, what do you think of my situation? I posted this in another thread but that was for last year. Maybe this one is more appropriate. I've been taking courses part time the last 3 years at HCC, the same courses for the BHSN program. Have all but Micro, Pub. Speaking, and Child Psych left (taking Micro & P.S. this semester, Child Psych in the spring). I got A's in both A&P 1+2, A's or A-'s in other courses. Got a 91 on the TEAS. Went to school 20 years ago for a science but did not graduate. Here's my situation: in 2006 I divorced. Badly. Started dating a girl in 2007. Was taking 3 courses: Micro, Pub. Speaking, and Child Psych (while working full time on the night shift). She dumped me w/out warning. There were 2 or 3 other family issues at that same time, all while I was working nights, which makes everything twice as sucky. I do the tailspin thing for a month (in retrospect, I wasn't really ready to date). I was still paying off old student loans, and didn't withdraw because I wanted them to remain in deferment. Thing was, I bombed all 3 courses royally. Now my 3.8 or 3.9 is a 2.7... I know that when you repeat classes that the higher of two grades will be used for computing the GPA. I'm counting on A's for the 3 courses (well, maybe a B in Micro). I'll be able to bring the GPA back up to 3.8 or 3.9. Question is, how do you think this will look on a transcript? I am planning on applying this Jan for 2011, hoping for A's in 2/3 of the courses by the time they decide(the Child Psy. will have to wait for the Spring). whaddyyathink?
  22. really jdoll? they wait-listed you? if you don't mind me asking, what were your grades and teas like? i am debating applying early (like, now) or later in the semster (after the fall 2010 grades are posted). when you say you "waited until the end"....how late did you apply? my grades are good and my teas is good as well...but that doesn't mean squat if the program is full. i had heard that they changed to a rolling admission policy a few years ago, and i guess this is now the result. d'oh!!! :smackingf
  23. OK, here's one for you guys. Let's get your input on this one.* *I've been taking courses part time the last 3 years at HCC, the same courses for the BHSN program. *Have all but Micro, Pub. 24. Move to West Haven, CT. It is one town next to New Haven, and there are plenty of rental units down by the water. In the summer there are lots of fairs and events. I lived there 5 years ago and had a huge 2 BR with a giant kitchen for $600/month. I'm sure that's up to $700-$800 by now, but it was the top floor of a house. Overall it's a great town to live in, and to buy into as well. Every 10 years the next town up the I-95 corridor becomes the new area for NYC'ers to buy into/commute from. In the 80's it was Stamford, 90's Norwalk, and 2000's Bridgeport. Milford it already pricey, so the next town up is West Haven. If you're going to buy in that area near Yale, West Haven is the place.
