Kennesaw State University Fall 2015
I think that one 'C' wont be too bad, especially if they see success in other areas. I, too, have a C in Micro, but mostly A's and a few B's here and there. Did you take the TEAS?

University of South Alabama Accelerated Nursing Program - July 2010
Is this program a second degree BSN TO MSN, or second degree BSN AND MSN? Could you go through the accelerated BSN then be an RN, and do MSN route later??

p.s. This information is all coming from ROTC counselors, all of which are ex/current Army and both active and reserve experience and knowledge.

Absn with army reserve
I've been told numerous times that the army will not direct commission RN's.... as they barely even DC MD/DO's. Me coming into the Army as a nurse IS the best option... but it is not an option for me as far as ROTC goes. My scholarship is a "line" scholarship for biology and will not allow me to go to nursing school. If you have any thoughts on how this could happen, I'd be more than happy to have some input. The issue is that my scholarship takes me out until Spring 16 Graduation and Commissioning. Most nursing schools application dates have passed for Fall 14 (next semester). and I have to complete MS3 and 4 year for ROTC. (essentially junior and senior years of training). I am also being told that even people on ROTC nursing scholarships may not commission into the ANC because they are "full" of nurses. Does anyone think we will be deploying in the near future.... I tend to think it's worth the risk with the troop minimization, etc...? input?

Absn with army reserve
SoldierNurse22, I have been told that an internal transfer would be difficult. I am hoping to go reserves directly out of ROTC as a 2LT, and hope to branch Med Services (typically when you opt reserve you get the first branch of choice). The ABSN programs I am looking into are 16-18months long; that being said, if I were enrolled full-time what are the chances that if my unit got mobilized/deployed that they would leave me to finish school? (Army is big on professional development, I don't see them pulling me, but I could be wrong). I see what you are saying if you want to come in as a nurse, come in as a nurse... i agree completely, I had a nursing scholarship and didn't get into my school's nursing school freshman year - got bad information from an ROTC recruiter at my school and switched my major to pre-medicine, under the impression and direction that I'd lose my scholarship if I did not switch my Nursing scholarship to a "line" scholarship..... as it turns out that is not the case; so now i'm in this predicament. I am currently on an LOA from ROTC (with intent to return), but being a reservist not as a nurse is not my ideal situation. I want army and i want nursing... how can I pair the two in my current situation?

ABSN/ Second Degree Nursing
Claire, Thank you for the input! Yes, the bio degree is NOT for because I'm not 100%... I am totally set with nursing, but being a Junior in my Biology degree seems like too far to turn around, especially with how things work with Army ROTC. Glad to hear the CNA work will be an application booster! Thanks!

101 Things I Wish I'd Known Before BOLC
A bit late for this post, however, I'm looking for as much information as I can get... I ask because I did 3 years of Army ROTC at my university and sadly had to drop due to medical school (or plans to go that they wouldn't allow), then switched BACK to nursing with plans to direct commission instead of going ROTC route.... I KNOW, i'm a DISASTER. I was sent through Army Airborne school last summer (2013), so I know the training environment, etc, I did ROTC, like I said, for 3 years. (STX lanes, PLT/SQD leadership... the list goes on). NOW I am a second semester Jr. at the same university (first semester out of ROTC), and plan on graduating with a BIO degree and Spanish Minor... THEN going elsewhere to for an ABSN or second degree nursing degree before direct commissioning.... 1. Were you an ROTC grad? Civilian? 2. How long was BOLC? 3. What happens after BOLC?

ABSN/ Second Degree Nursing
Thank you! I already have the pre-reqs for most schools because I am a Biology major, thus have taken my fair share of Bio, Chem, Physics.. etc. I know my GPA is relatively low, but would the schools not look at the fact that I was Bio/Pre-med while looking into that? Plus the fact that my grades in the pre-reqs are high? Do you know of any schools that would look at my picture as a whole more so than other schools?

ABSN/ Second Degree Nursing
Thank you for the insight. I am completing the degree so that I have something to fall back on, a Bachelor's in Biology and a minor in Spanish... I only have a few months left of Junior year, then 2 semester senior year (Which i plan on time to get my GPA up anyways). What exactly would the ADN route do for me?

ABSN/ Second Degree Nursing
Hey all, looking for insight into ABSN/Second degree nursing programs! I am currently a Junior at the University of Kentucky, here are my stats: Major: Biology- Pre-Med Minor: Spanish Army ROTC student 20 y/o, female Current Cum GPA: 3.0 (hope to grad with 3.1-3.2, realistically) I will meet the majority of the schools' prerequisites, given my science major and my extensive background in chemistry and biology among many other science and math. courses. Additionally, I am a CNA, have volunteer hours, shadow experience, and work experience as a CNA/PCT. I realize that my GPA is on the low end.... I have never been and will never be a 4.0 student, not to discredit myself, though, I work VERY hard. What are my chances at acceptance/interviews at an ABSN program? Anyone have experience with low GPA and ABSN programs? Any schools that accept lower GPA's? Schools I am VERY Interested in: 1. Auburn 1. LSU 3. Queens Univ. -Charlotte 4. Clemson 5. UNC - Chapel Hill 6. MUSC any insight?? Bueller......

EMT - B with nursing school?!
one1: Did you do summer schooling for EMT -B or at the same time as nursing school?
-
EMT - B with nursing school?!
Thanks for the input, guys!! I think I am going to go for it.. not this summer, but next... I mean the field experience should get me "in the game" or a little taste of the mindset of a field hospital... barely, but at least a taste! Instead of EMT - B (basic), if I can, should I just go for EMT - P (paramedic)... of course time and schedule-pending with nursing school and Army training, or would that be too much considering I am not going to be a paramedic but a nurse?
-
EMT - B with nursing school?!
Hi Y'all! Since you are all so helpful with all of my other questions, I am asking for opinions here.... What do you think about going to summer classes (community college) to get my EMT - B cert. the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of nursing school (University of Kentucky)? Why get the cert? To be able to work on campus as a possible EMT while getting extra medical training. Before anyone says that a nurse's atmosphere and an EMT's are very different, I understand that, and I am going to become an Army nurse (Army ROTC and nursing), talk about a different atmosphere from any other imaginable! Simply wondering if it would be worth my time, in your opinions! Thanks for the input!

BSN vs. MSN - Nurse Practitioner?
TraumaRUs --- THANK YOU! Exactly the answer I was looking for, confusion = clarified. Thanks for all your help everyone!
-
BSN vs. MSN - Nurse Practitioner?
Oh, sorry for the confusion.. As I understand it, an RN is a graduate of a nursing program that has taken the board exam, and an NP is an RN with a more advanced nursing degree.
-
BSN vs. MSN - Nurse Practitioner?
I am abbreviating Nurse practitioner as NP.
-
which branch to join for flight nursing.
79Tango, Thanks! ***Correction to Army Airborne, I was thinking Airborne school when I said Army Airborne and Flight nursing!

BSN vs. MSN - Nurse Practitioner?
Thank you all for your help with the BSN - MSN/DNP questions.. I have a few more to throw at you guys! I am on scholarship to the University of Kentucky for Army ROTC (anyone with Army ROTC scholarship experience, please help!!) 1. After graduating with a BSN, how many years does it take in grad. school to get an MSN? DNP? 2. Can I go to graduate school for my MSN or DNP after my 4 years (BSN) with my Army ROTC scholarship, or do I go to my first base to shadow after that? 3. Could I become an NP just through the Army's training, sort of like a specialty, like ER? 4. How much of a pay difference is there between a NP and an ER nurse with a BSN (preferably in the Army/Military)? ^ANY ARMY NURSES TO HELP WITH #2 & 3???!!
