  1. ^That nails it. I've had patients request female aides or RNs but that's not because I'm incompetent. It's just their comfort level.
  2. From my experience, I found male RNs have an easier time fitting in. We may stand out because we are males but it was mostly positive. Like other posters stated, look into the reason why you got terminated. Nothing you can do right now but learn from it.
  3. Once I had a pt with meds scheduled for every hour. I clustered all the medications into groups. ie: 0800, 0900, 1000 and 1100, 1200, 1300 etc. A vast majority of our patients are on q8 heparin sq and one dose is always due at 1am. I hated waking up patients for their heparin injection.
  4. We change IV sites every 3-4 days at my faculty. Many times vanco shortens the life of the PIV. Our pharmacy is good enough to put the infusion rate in our MAR, so we can double check when we check it off as completed.
  5. I currently work at Hartford Hospital. Many of the nurses on my floor were hired as new grads. I heard from senior management, there may be 100 openings in the hospitals this year. Good luck.
  6. Good luck on the interview. I just graduated from nursing school and will take the boards in July.
