  1. I am applying for Travis AFB for an ICU position as a RN, civilian contract. I have heard bad things about the contract Loyal Source and a mixture of bad and good about working on an AFB as a civilian. Any input for me about working in Travis on the ICU would be great.
  2. So have anyone taken a position with them? I am looking into it but I have found really bad reviews about this company that have me worried.
  3. I just received word I FINALLY will get my license in July. I applied in January of this year, so it took about 4-5 mo. I had to be reviewed due to a misdemeanor I had over 10yrs ago which made the process longer. They asked me to send a letter of explanation after of my offenses. Then by that time it was on the border of the renewal period so I then had to mail them my preference of when I wanted to receive my license and any fees extra that apply. Calling them is the worse. You have to call five or so times before getting on hold with the right department and I was even hung up on a few times after that by the machine. Then you have to wait on hold for about 45mins before speaking with someone. So don't let them rush you off the phone until you have everything answered.
  4. i'm on my first assignment now and having this same problem. I came from a harder/bigger hospital but am having a tough time with the staff. I have had a lot of questions because so many things are different like policies, procedures, medications, and general culture of doing everything vs. calling for comfort care. So, with all my questions they question my skills and where I came from. It drives me nuts because I am a good nurse but I feel like a portion of the staff question my abilities.
  5. I ended up taking a job in a suburb of Seattle for days. I found a place in W. Seattle which worked out nicely. I just heard about not having free or low pay parking for hospitals in Seattle proper. Glad I didn't do that. I also found out that the agency I went with goes through a middle man who was the one who actually contracted out the job. Idid have one issue I was not happy with and learned more questions to ask. Before orientation, my agent told me the hospital only wanted to give my 4 hrs orientation then see if I needed more than that and go from there. Well, I was not happy and I couldn't get around there bs. Come to find out after speaking with the manager he wanted me to have at least 12 hrs orientation but he said the agency(don't know which of the two) only wanted togive me 4. In the end I got 12 but I still wish I had another day or two still. I would also ask from now on in interviews if the unit uses CNAs (they don't) andhow many nurses they have scheduled for ICU a shift. I wont speak of how I like the hospital bc that's a whole other thread.
  6. So, I have been looking on craigslist for apts to rent when I get to Seattle but what is the best way to go about sealing a deal with a person thousand of miles away (signing contracts, paying rent/deposits and obtaining keys? One person I don' t think is even in Seattle either right now. I don't want to end up being scammed or without housing once I arrive.
  7. Any news on what it's like to work in a Renton hospital lately? I have a possible offer there.
  8. I work at Ben Taub Trauma surgical ICU in the med Center and I liked it. You will learn a lot! It's a large unit of 30 beds and 13-15 RN a shift. Team work was great on my shifts but think it could be variable on who is working. I am leaving soon to travel but great experience. Ben Taub I know has always used travelers and agency nurses. Currently though we are in a deficit so we cut a lot out temporarily but that can't last long because our hospital is always looking to fill spots.
  9. I don't acutally see how to PM you but I'm looking in that area now. Is there anything to do in Everett? I live in cities but can do small towns as long as it's not all typical suburbs and boring. How is Everett? Do you know anything about the ICU? Would you mind telling me your pay. I still don't know what's good for WA? Thanks so much.

  11. Hi I am working with agencies to find a job in Seattle, Bellingham or maybe another town nearby to start next month. I would like to know what the hospitals are like from your experience. I'm looking for ICU and step down Tele units. Also, is it atypical for hospitals working with agencies to offer shift differentials? This will be my first assignment. I currently work in a trauma 1 county hospital in Houston tx. I work in the trauma/surgical ICU (1.5yrs) and have work on a imu Tele floor (1.5yrs). I have worked with neuro and medicine ICU pts when they overflow to us. I'm wondering how I might get on in the hospitals in WA. Some of the positions are ICU float and not sure what that entails. I'm moving to be closer to my boyfriend in Canada. So I am willing to go anywhere in NW WA but no south of Seattle. I just would like the town to have enough to keep me entertained. If you have any input regarding specific hospitals, towns or tips, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
  12. Hi guys I am currently working with recruiters now to get my first travel assignment. I'm glad I stumbled across this post bc one of them is nurses Rx. The nurses Rx recruiter has been the most available but I was worried since I hadn't heard about them and she contacted me from my inquiry with American mobile. I am also looking with PRCS and PPR. I was wondering about OT, its sounded like OT is paid differently based on the hospital and not the agency, is this correct?
  13. Nurses, How do you refill patient's water pitchers in the hospital? We are no longer allowed to take their pitchers to the touch-free water machine. Currently, they have us using large styrofoam cups for each refill. Needless, to say we are making a lot of waste that is horrible for the enviornment. We were also told we could not use zip lock bags either. If anyone has a better system or has research that says there is nothing wrong with using zip locks, let me know please.
  14. Hi, I am a student nurse and need a little help answering a question. I have an idea but I would like to hear from nurses and also if you know of a reputable site with good information about this. Thanks. You are instructed to discharge a patient whose care is no longer being reimbursed, but who you know is not ready for discharge. What do you do?
