I wish more folks had answered this post. I am taking mine in a few weeks and am really curious to know if the NCSBN helped anyone pass the NCLEX. -NJ

Clerk of Courts won't give me a letter
Hello all, This is my first time creating a post. I am so distraught right now. I have been trying for weeks to get someone from the Clerk of Courts to give me a letter typed on letterhead stating that they are unable to locate records on me. The BON is requiring this in order to complete my application. A little background: I have a misdemeanor from 1993. I have searched online, contacted the police dept and spoken to several people in the court 'system' only to be told they can't find any records and are unable to provide me with a letter. The arrest was in the state of Pennsylvania and I now live thousands of miles away in Florida. I contacted the BON to see if their was an alternative to this letter (maybe a notarized statement from me) but nope. They told me it has to be stated on letterhead with my full name, signed and dated. Has anyone had any experience with this? I need help, advice, comforting, anything...I am now a graduate and my transcripts are probably already there but my application is in limbo until I can get this resolved. Thanks, NJ

New grad, should I hold out at my current job or just take the first thing I can get?
If it were me, I'd be applying at other hospitals and applying at my own, when the probation is up. You may be holding your breath for nothing if you don't know a nurse manager at your current place of employment that is aware of your 'incident' and is willing to take a chance on you. Good luck. -NJ

FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s
best of luck! don't worry too much, think of it as a brain game...it's just a test of your problem solving skills. In nursing school, you will feel like this every week! esp, when you have 2 exams every Monday during your 1st term -NJ

Hi smnurse, It's better to guess. wrong answers don't count, only correct ones. I highly recommend this site to get into test-taking mode. Challenge yourself and time yourself (10-15 min for 20 questions)...it will feel like a race against time because the questions never seem to end when you are taking the NAT. The faster you can work through them, the better your chances of getting a higher percentage of correct answers. taking psych first...going to my 1st clinical tomorrow. Question: the psych lectures/PP seem so vague...how much detail are we really expected to know for the exams/HESI? Did you start prepping for the HESI early? sounds like I will need to drop work hours to part-time for AH1...I am so rusty on the CarePlans...haven't had to do one since before Christmas break and won't have to do one until March! :uhoh21: -NJ

I am Term II...the box set is for Term I...We didn't have to buy a 'box' for Term II, just 5 new books. The laptop is not required but if you love technology, a laptop and the e-books will be a must...the ebooks save you hours and hours of work when you are completing your assignments. -NJ

I applied with 216 and got in for n/w. Take the NAT this year if you can, you should be able to pass it w/o Micro. Did you know you can apply while enrolled in Micro? Then, you will at least know what to expect if you have to retake the NAT after finishing Micro in the Fall. You may get enough points to apply for Spring 2012...good luck :)

I used this site and it helped me tremendously. scroll all the way down to see links to the topics you can study. Time yourself...5 min for 20 questions...that is about the pace you will need to be going to increase your percentage of right answers (remember only the correct answers count) well maybe that is a little fast but that was my strategy. Review your basic anatomy and review the empirical Chemistry laws..youll see what I mean in the Science sections. If you are a visual learner, let me know, I have lots of resources for that...that is how I learn best so I have a library of videos and interactive sites. -NJ oh, the link!!! here it is http://www.testprepreview.com/nursing_practice.htm

the best advice I can give is to learn how to eliminate the wrong answers first. answer as much as you can...the only thing that counts are the correct answers. there were lots of word problems...learn how to pick out the info you need and ignore the info you don't need to solve the problem. -NJ

hi, just jumping in to answer your question about calculating the NAT points Take your raw scores for the following sections: Academic aptitude, Reading Comp & Natural Sciences and multiply the total by .64 add that total to your scores for your pre-reqs and you should have your total points...don't forget that only these classes count towards your scores...DEP2004, PSY1012, SYG2000, BSC2085C, BSC2086C, MCB2010C, & MAC1105. let us know what you come up with...good luck! :) -NJ

FB is safe as long as you make sure your privacy settings are very tight...no one can see me or my profile unless they are a friend...not even friends of friends can see me. and even the group cannot see my profile unless a group member sends me an individual friend request. with that being said, the whole 144 accepted students are not in the group so I am sure you will meet others like you at orientation or when school starts; I am sure you will find an effective way to share info outside of FB. Congrats guys....better get started on that long list of things! p.s. many of us are still on AN and will answer share info on this forum too. -NJ

did you maybe include sections from the NAT that are not included? You test on 4 sections (if my memory serves me correct) but they only count 3 sections in your points calculations? -NJ

FSCJ/FCCJ Fall 2011 Hopefuls
I am just worried b/c the lady over background checks sent me an email saying that she needs all the paperwork (final disposition, police report, etc) by July 25th...according to the state in which it happened (which is very far away), everything is destroyed after 7 years! I will turn in what I can gather and pray that it's good enough. did you talk to a Nursing counselor/advisor or just a regular advisor at one of the other campuses? the reason I am asking is that the regular advisors seem to give conflicting/wrong info lots of times. that said, I know a misdemeanor won't stop me from being accepted or sitting for the RN exam but I dont' want it to stop me from being accepted due to lack of documentation. This whole situation is stressing me out just a tad! lol the money thing is not as stressful b/c I have support from my family and they are willing to chip in as long as they can get free healthcare out of it! lol lol -NJ
