Alambert603 - did you take the boards and how did you score on ATI if you don't mind me asking?

I am sure this has been a thread before but I cannot find it. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has taken the ATI proctored tests at school and then passed the boards with the probability it states or not passed. How accurate is the ATI test compared to the NCLEX test? I am just curious to know.

Would someone please let me know what it means if you had no fill in the blank or alternate questions. Most of them were priority for my PN boards and it shut off at 85. Also how long did it take for you to get your results. It says wait two days before checking results, but are they usually posted prior to that. I don't know. I feel extremely sick to my stomach. I studied and studied and it didn't matter how much I studied nothing could have prepared me for that test. - Angie

My husband and I just visited Newport News this holiday and the residency program is actually at Riverside Regional and that is where we looked mainly. It looked fairly decent and we were taken on tours of the city, but basically a five-mile radius of the hospital as that is where they say to live in doing a residency. Is Riverside a good hospital in terms of nursing and how is that part of the area for living, crime, day care, overall enjoying it, etc.?

Right now I have a seven year old and two year old. So, basically day care and elementary school. Do any hospitals have a daycare program?

Is it mostly due to violence? How far is Chesapeake?

We would be considering both depending on the area, etc. Has anyone heard anything about The Toledo Hospital?

I think every school is different. I have been out of school a while and my GPA seven years ago was a 3.6, but I also took classes the year before school with a 4.0. I got a 125 on my NLN. I think it is all in how many people did well and who applies. I would think they would take the first so many who got the scores they desire and then go from there. I applied for two schools and one required the NLN and the other did not. I was accepted to both (very grateful) and ended up going to the one where they did not require the NLN due to the school being closer to my home. In all your grade point average and NLN score is well above average and I would think you would be someone they would consider.:)

Thanks for the info. I believe the hospital my husband is looking into for a residency is The Toledo Hospital. We will probably go up this Christmas break and look around at the area. Are there any areas to steer clear of in terms of neighborhoods or housing?

How far is Yorktown. I guess I don't know anything about the area at all. I am originally from Idaho and my husband moved me to West Virginia for him to go to medical school and now he is close to residencies and I have a 7-year-old in grade school and also looking for daycare for my 22-month-old. When you say okay is it mainly not a good area to raise children, busy, not so busy? If you don't mind me asking could you give me more information. - Thanks

My children are ages 7 and 22 months old. So, obviously grade schools and then daycares or hospitals which provide daycare. If you don't mind could you tell me the names of the hospitals, etc. - Thanks

My husband is in medical school and looking to do a residency in Toledo. I will graduate from nursing school next year and I am wondering about the area, places to live, good neighborhoods for children, etc. I am also wondering about good places to work for myself as a nurse. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.

There is one hospital in Twin Falls, Magic Valley Regional Medical Center. Other than that there are clinics and offices to work for. The population is approximately 40,000 people. My girlfriend just graduated and is working at the hospital there. I am from Twin Falls and now in WV. Nice place to live and hardly any crime. In terms of salary I could ask my girlfriend and see what she is getting paid. She is on Med-Surg Floor. I think, however, that they are always looking for help. Hope this helps - Angie

Pretty disturbing to read. I think she should have weighed all her options. She did not even consider placing the twins up for adoption. She instead chose her needs over that of unborn children. Disconcerting when not being able to have anymore children myself, although I have one beautiful biological child and one beautiful adopted child.

Don't know if I can be of much help, but I'll have a go. I was born and raised in Southern Idaho, Twin Falls and loved it. It was right near the Snake River Canyon and it was beautiful. Southern Idaho is more dry, but with mountains and the canyon and Nothern Idaho is very green. I am not sure about nursing jobs, but there is a shortage everywhere. In Twin Falls (about 40,000 residents) there is Magic Valley Regional Medical Center or many clinics and doctor facilities to work for. The state capital of Boise is much larger, but much smaller than D.C. Then you have Pocatello, Idaho Falls and then going up North you have Courdelane and Moscow which are average sized cities - not too small and not too large. Thinking about it makes me miss it. Anyway, hope this helps some.Angie:)

I did complain to one of the nurses and she said she had complained to the hospital, but nothing had been done. She said she likely wouldn't be staying at that hospital for much longer. Supposedly Pediatrics had their own Floor, but then they started combining floors. Yeh, I complained pretty hard, including to my doctor who let us take my baby home after two days because the treatment was so poor. She let us do everything from home and we did outpatient treatment, except the IV and she said as long as we got 28 oz of fluids in her we could keep her home. So, I did everything I could to keep fluids in her so I didn't have to go back. The doctor even said she herself was treated poorly by the hospital because she was a fairly recent residency graduate and looking for a permanent place and she is checking out the different areas. She is here for a little bit seeing if this is where she wants to be. She said they treat her different because she doesn't have ideals back from the 60s or 70s and believes in procedures such as suctioning an infant's mucous when they can't breathe, which this hospital does not do. At my daughter's last outpatient visit I asked her if she had decided to stay. She told me they had tried hard to keep her, but she was going to UCLA where things were up to date. I don't blame her.

I am not a nurse yet, just a student. However, my daughter was just recently hospitalized and she is 14 months old. We were on the same floor as L&D, NICU and the Medical Floor. They combined everything into one. Only one of the nurses which took care of my daughter had ever done pediatrics before and my baby was miserable because they couldn't get the IV and after only two hours it infiltrated and they had to do another. I was pretty upset and will never go to this hospital again. I would rather travel the hour and a half to the next closest hospital than go back there. I thought it very inappropriate to have women delivering babies next to a room with elderly patients with pneumonia, including my daughter being there for pneumonia.

Thanks to those who put their input on the board. I researched both schools and they both had 95% pass rates to them or better, as well as good reputations. So, it came down to driving time and my husband brought in the variable of the winter drive. To get to the state college I have to go up Sandstone mountain and the drive would be pretty bad. So, I am going with the college with the easier drive and the shorter distance. The clinics may be further away, but the drive is still flat. It will be better for my family as well. I would hate to have to commute two hours total instead of one as that takes time away from my kids and my studies. Anyway, thanks for trying to help me decide. Angie:)

That would be great! I can't find anyone who has gone there and this would really help me decide. I have called the school to see if they have numbers, but they are on spring break and I have to make my decision this week. The campus there isn't much to look at, but I would like to know where they do clinics, which hospitals they go to, if the campus is more than it looks and how the teaching and grading is. I want to cover my bases to make sure I make the best decision for my family and I (two kids and a husband in medical school). Thanks so much, Angie:)
