I'm having trouble finding any information on Kaiser New Grad programs for summer 2012. Can anyone help direct me? I've searched their job postings with no results... Thanks!

I concur with MangoPeach...In most cases it's not the material that's necessarily difficult, it's dealing with the whole package that is challenging. Even with good time management, it seems impossible to get everything done. This quarter I have five classes and clinicals start next quarter. Two of the most challenging classes right now are sciences: pathophysiology and pharmacology. Overall, there's a lot of memorization and a ton of reading.

Three science classes with labs is a lot! To address your biggest concern...I'm in my second quarter of nursing school, and it's definitely a challenge to keep up, but the material is completely different from the core science pre-reqs with labs. I wouldn't use science classes with labs to judge your potential performance in nursing school. Hang in there and good luck!

I feel ya! I'm in the same boat. I end up setting 3 or 4 alarms on my cellphone with a few minutes between each alarm. I set each alarm with a different ring tone so it's more jarring.

I would vote for Biology too if you don't like math and science! At my school, a certain level of chemistry was required for anatomy and physiology, but I didn't think it was essential for the class.

Hi Acolyte, I'm not sure about BSN process in undergrad, but I'm sure a lot of it depends on your school. Maybe you could talk to the counselor for the nursing major and s/he could look over your classes and see how many more you'd have to take to satisfy the major requirements. If you're thinking about applying to nursing school after you finish undergrad you still have a lot of options. You could get a second bachelors in an accelerated program (about 2 years, some are less), you go through a community college or diploma program, or you could consider an entry level masters (which are designed for people who want to go into nursing but majored in something other than nursing). I'm currently in my first year in the latter program. Good luck!

I applied last year and received email notification about two weeks after my interview date. I remember the toughest thing about Western was that they wanted the $500 deposit before other schools released their admission decisions. Since I only applied to one other school, I ended up paying the $500 to secure my spot. I declined Western when I was accepted to the second school, and I think many people were in the same position. For those who are sending UCLA transcripts for the prereqs they just finished, does anyone know if UCLA wants one copy or two? The email they sent said transcript (singular) but I remember when applying they wanted two copies. Tried calling the office but no one answered. Thanks!

roborant, Chem 51 is an introductory chemistry course but it's an introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry. It seems completely general to me right now, however, it is listed on the MECN Approved Chemistry Courses handout that I got at the info session. The handout is also on the MECN website. I used this handout to determine what class to take. Chemistry 51 is listed for LACC, Pierce College, LA Southwest, La trade tech, and LA valley college. Chemistry 51 and 52 is listed for LA mission college and Chemistry 66 is listed for LA Harbor College. Vicb, yes you do need to register for each of the nine LA campuses but it's the same website and same online forms. It's very easy to do, you just need to click through all the online forms again and change the school you're applying to.

NSFA, thank for you the info Epi 100. Vicb, the La Trade Tech chemistry class was not hard to get into because I had no priority (had never taken a class there) and I was able to register and get in. It was the last open section out of maybe 4 or 5 sections at LATTC. All the ELAC sections were already full. For LATTC, I just had to submit my transcripts showing that I cleared the prerequisite, I think it was a basic math class. I am confident that you and Cstark will be able to get into Chemistry 51 at one of the Los Angeles Community Colleges it's offered at, it just might not be your first choice campus or your first choice section. The LA Community Colleges website lets you search all nine campuses for the class you want http://www.lacolleges.net/class_offerings/schedules.asp . I just checked the site and the summer listings aren't up yet, but I would check back frequently and register at the schools you're interested in ASAP for summer so you can get an earlier registration date.

Vicb - Thank you for the info on UCLA's decision date. Regarding the Epidemiology class, I believe the dates/times are out already on the UCLA's summer session website. If I'm not mistaken, Epidemiology 100* is listed as TWR 5-8:30pm and Nursing 50 is listed as MR 8:30am to 10:50am. *The MECN Approved Epidemiology Courses lists Epidemiology 100A as being the approved course, so I'll have to find out if 100 is the same or equivalent to 100A. Seems like it would be. Vicb and Cstark - regarding Chemistry, I'm taking Chemistry 51 at La Trade Tech (downtown LA) right now. It's not ideal but it was the only place I could get in to (with no priority) so I recommend trying LATTC. I think I applied to all nine LA community colleges just for Chemistry 51. Make sure you get your prerequisites cleared before registration because some of the LA community colleges have one and some don't for chem 51. NP to be - I live in LA...I have no plans on moving any closer to UCLA yet since I'm on the waitlist. I attended UC Berkeley for my undergraduate studies though, and I've heard good things about the public health classes. When I attended, a lot of the larger classes were webcast so even though a class is not listed as online, you might ask the department if there are any plans for it to be podcast or webcast. Tokebi - Thank you for the info on epi course! Really good to know.

Joyslen, congratulations on your acceptances and thank you for sharing that! For those who will be accepting or declining offers from UCLA, would you mind sharing what the deadline is for the deposit/intent to register? Also, is anyone planning to fulfill the Epidemiology prerequisite this summer? If so, where are you taking the course? I am on the waitlist and will most likely register to take it at UCLA.
