Food Loaf
We have the same. It's called Management loaf. Its for the inmates who for whatever reason have been less than desirable. The way we don't get litigation is the "yummy" loaf contains all the necessary protiens, carbs ect that is in a regular meal. So it's not like were leaving anything nuturious out that you would not get in a breakfast, lunch or dinner rigger. It's very structured. No it does look or smell good. K-9 dogs probally would not even eat it.

License Renewal
I'm a MA nurse (RN) currently trying to get a SC licence as we are moving there in about 5 months. Am I reading this correctly? Does your boss/supervisor have to put in writing every two years to the Board of Nursing if they think your comp. to continue nursing? I realize you need CEU's. How many does SC require? MA needs 15 every two years.

Paying for Healthcare
Hi NurseKitty, No, doesn't have to be Duke I work at. He is going to school there, but I can work anywhere. I like community hospitals rather than big ones anyway. But the cost of healthcare coverage and benefits will be a big factor. Here is Massachusetts we have great health benefits in the hospitals so we are use to this. Thank you for your reply. Lori

narcotic counting question
YOU are responsible to make sure that controlled meds are CORRECT BEFORE you sign off on your count sheet. Don't two of you have to sign the book? If so then why on earth would you sign something you haven't counted??? Please tell me you don't allow him to take your keys and count alone. Did you ever think he may want to take narcs from the count and if the count is not right your the one who has to do the explaining of missing meds. Tell your supervisors what is happining here cause something is not right, he's up to something. Good Luck.

Pet Peeve of the Day..
I know what your saying. You know what bothered me in school (and even now 13 yrs later) is when the staff called us "the student" not even nursing student. "The student did ......whatever." Use to really peeve me. How bout just calling me by my name??? Now that's a concept! You know we all had names...

Contact Hours
You need 15 CEU's every 2 years in MA. But if you just graduated your schooling is good for CEU's until your birthday in 2006. (So by 2008 you'll need 15 CEU's) RN's even years LPN's odd years.

How many hours do nurses work in a week?
I work 5 - 8 hour shifts. 1pm-9pm 3-11 or 4-12 On call every 6-7th weekend (One day only) for 24hours. This can be a VERY long day cause your the only nurse in the PACU and have to do everything. It works for me. I LOVE the job. Not too stressful b/c we have lots of staff.

How you got to where you are now
After nursing school I knew where I wanted to work....The OR. I was a surgical tech while going to nursing school and just stayed there after grad. I never worked med/surg. Didn't think I needed to. And after 13 years as a nurse I am now working in a PACU. Also did correctional nursing for 3 years. Liked that too!

N Myrtle Beach Hospitals
Hi Kristen, We are moving to that area (20 mins west in the country). Let me know what you find. I was there 2 weeks ago. The Grand Strand Hospital (on rte 17) VERY Large hospital. Probally has psych. Conway Hospital 20 mins west has a large hospital as well and you would be going against the traffic if you work a morning shift. I think there is a hospital in Little River as well but I have not seen it yet. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I can't wait to go and be done with this winter snow.
