  1. Evansmom you can go on Sail and look at the nursing courses schedule. Clinicals will not be there as they are not assigned until the right before your semester start. So the best idea you can get is the schedule that is in Sail.
  2. @bronzemint email has been sent
  3. Hey prettygirl5, I had the same concern/question about financial aid as I start in May. I contacted financial aid yesterday. Fall is the start of the financial aid year with a max of $12,000 for each year. So you would get $6K for fall and $6K for winter. Being that I am starting in May and did not take any classes this past fall or winter, I am still eligible for funds for this May. I don't know your start date, but you need to plan carefully if you are depending on loans to pay tuition.
  4. I was emailed yesterday that our orientation will be in March for May 2011 starts. Evansmom-the complete schedule for all three terms is posted on the OU website as the last page of the accelerated application
  5. I agree with some of the posters here. My husband is supportive, he even set up a home office for me. The problem is that whenever I go there, so does everyone else...the dog included. I decided the only way to get peace of mind and some serious studying done was to escape to the library or Starbucks for a few hours a week. I made big meals on the weekends that could be frozen and revisited during the week. Initially I felt guilty about spending time away from them, but later I realized it was necessary if I wanted to pass my classes. I have a teenager also and the best thing ever to get her to do chores was set up a schedule. The chore schedule is posted on the fridge and it is detailed for what to do on what days. She knows that if she doesn't do the chores that means no going to the mall, hanging with friends, or the worst (in her mind) taking away the cell phone. Needless to say, the chores get done. The key is finding what works for your family and for you to keep your sanity in the process.
  6. Hey ej, Did you go to your personal doc for the Hep B vaccinations? If not, can you post the prices you have gotten for vaccinations? I have started checking around and so far this is what I gathered: Concentra: $97.50 MMR $76.50 Varicella $55.50 10 Panel Drug Screen $37.00 Physical Oakland County Health Department: Hep B-3 shots $75 MMR- $46 Tet and DP - $20
  7. Hey evansmom, For the last group, we all interviewed during the first 2 weeks of march and didn't start getting letters until the beginning of April. So it was about a month before we heard anything. Good luck! I know waiting is agony.
  8. My take is get it engraved with the RN. It will serve as inspiration. Obviously, your smart enough to become an LPN, and you are almost done becoming a RN. I say go for it!
  9. The information is posted under the school of nursing/important forms/health requirement forms Under the health requirement forms there are several links that tell what is needed for vaccinations, background check, etc. and who to send the results to. There is also a link there with CPR course locations for 2010-2011
  10. I remember reading in the OU nursing handbook, the vaccinations required, the criminal check, and even a listing of recommended places to take the CPR class. The CPR class must be the one for health professionals and depending upon where you take it the certification is good for 2 years. OU even lists the prices of those classes(not sure how often they update that info), but at least it's something to start with. So we all can keep ourselves busy this summer by at least getting the CPR class out of the way while we wait for the real fun to begin.
  11. Okay I couldn't resist adding to this post. After paying off any outstanding debt then I can start wishing. These are my wish items: Designer shoes...Christian Louboutin to be exact Laser Hair Removal-NO I am not a hairy chick, I'm just tired of the same routine of shaving, tweezing and plucking(I have a personal thing against body hair...don't ask) A trip to Tahiti with a hut over the water(a delayed honeymoon since we never had one) and a Midnight Blue Harley Davidson Bike for myself
  12. CONGRATS!!! Out of curiosity, when did you graduate? Do you already have a job lined up?
  13. Thanks wj I will take a look at the handbook so I can get busy collecting what I need.
  14. rzyzzy, What local scrub shop did you go to? It would be helpful for me to go in person and take a peek at what's available before purchasing. Thanks.
  15. For those of you that know folks already in the nursing program at OU, do you know what materials we need right in the beginning? For example, uniforms, stethoscope, nursing kits, etc. I know it's early but I was thinking that if I could gradually buy that stuff and get it out the way, or have it gifted to me for mother's day, birthday, etc. that would be great.
  16. This may be a stupid question but I'm hoping someone can answer it anyway. In order to qualify for NWLB, do you have to be unemployed already??? I am currently employed, make a decent amount of money, but when my accelerated nursing program starts I will be unemployed. Do they consider that, or do I have to wait to apply when I am unemployed?
  17. Ejcl, I sent you a pm with the info you requested.
  18. Why didn't the article tell what "government program" will help pay off the student loans? That would have been really helpful.
  19. One more thing, Pharm was great pretty straightforward. Pathophys with that prof was tricky. The quiz questions had tricky wording, so you had to definitely read the questions very carefully to ensure you weren't missing something. For example, the question would have the word impermeable instead of permeable. If you are trying to beat the clock and pace yourself you may overlook that small difference and choose that answer. However, he did ask questions that were critical thinking questions. Stuff like patient A presents with this symptom and that, what condition does he have. His idea of a quiz was always at least 30+ questions. In my book, that's a test not a quiz.
  20. I was told there were 3 people ahead of me for the January cohort. So we shall see if everyone accepts and sends their deposit. They won't allow me to post the actual profs names, but for Pharm I had a lady. I had a male for Pathophys....
  21. I have completed the last 3 classes, so yep I'm ready to go. The extra time would give me a chance to get more money saved. Time will tell what happens.
  22. So my deposit check was cashed and my status changed to Accelerated Nursing BSN...finally. Too bad my start date didn't also change to January Good luck to those taking classes over the summer. As of last night, I am officially done with all pre-reqs. Yay!!!
  23. I would have to agree with all the other posters, I would not tell during the interview. I probably wouldn't tell even after I was hired. My teenage daughter is diabetic and we manage with diet and exercise. As a teenager, she doesn't like to be fussed over and certainly doesn't want her friends to know about her condition. Her teachers know and the office at school is aware of it in case of emergency. Keep handy snacks that you can eat on the go. Always have the emergency glucose tablets and you will be fine. Over time, you will be able to tell when you need to eat something and quick. Simply take a quick bathroom break, cram a snack and keep it moving. Good luck on the interview!
  24. I mailed my deposit earlier this week. It doesn't look like they've cashed my check yet. Hmmm
  25. Thanks for all the suggestions and congrats. I know I need the BLS certification so there's no need to hold off on that. I will start looking now for possible employment opportunities in healthcare. I would like to get my feet wet and in the door of a hospital.
