Job decision for new grad
That was my initial gut feeling too. But, then I began to think that maybe there would be good job options in my area for a Pulmonary-Respiratory nurse with Critical Care cert and conscious sedation. I was afraid that job experience would limit me, but I don't know enough about the nursing world yet to say that for sure. Thanks!!

Job decision new grad
Hi all! I am a new grad in an large city area with little job prospects. I have been applying and interviewing just outside my metro area, so both of these job will require a commute. Here is my dilema: My goal is to get several months experience so that I can then get a job in my immediate area. The first job is at a huge teaching hospital in the Lung Diagnostic Center. It involves pre-op, intra-op with conscious sedation, and post-op for bronchoscopy. There will be critical care training and cross training in other areas in the unit. It is 4 8's, no nights, weekends, holidays, or call. The second job is a med-surg floor 3 12's at a smaller regional hospital with 99 beds. The hospital is small, but fairly comprehensive in services offered and is growing a lot. Which job would be best for me to be able to gain experience and join the workforce at in my city at a later date? My concern is that working in the specialty department in Lung Diagnostic may limit the jobs which would consider me for a floor nurse position later because they may not consider me to be experienced. On the other hand, would there be plenty of job opportunities for me with the experience I would have from Lung Diagnostics and what would they be? At this point, my goal is to choose the job that will offer me the best experience for finding another job later. Thanks!!!

Denied NCLEX by CA BRN due to two DUI's-HELP!
It seems like Cali is more strict than some states. I have 2 DUI's, but they are from 1991, so much older, and I got my license in Florida. I wouldn't take the agreement or probationary status. If you do that, you may as well just choose another career because you won't get hired with any restrictions on your locense. If you pursue this, get a different lawyer and FIGHT.

Should I bring a lawyer when I go in front of the board?
Yes, you need an attorney that specializes in representing people with professional medical licensure.

Convicted of 2 dui's....any advice regarding BON?
I did not have a problem getting accepted at school. I went to a public community college. I got my ATT today! I hope that gives you some hope!

How old were your friends DUI's and how old were they when he got licensed? thanks!

Convicted of 2 dui's....any advice regarding BON?
Well sorry I can't give advice yet, but I am in the same situation and anxiously awaiting my answer from the BON in Florida. I sent in my app on Jan 12, so I should be able to offer you some encouragement soon. I have 2 DUIs from 1991, so 21 years ago. The first was plead no contest and fines, probation, adjudication witheld etc. The second was adjudicated guilty. Probably not much difference there, but just to clarify. I am hopeful that I will get licensed, but may very well have to go to the BON in person since it was repeats. I had a consultation with a MSN/Attorney who represents medical professionals for licensure in Florida and she said I will get licensed, but there is a risk of getting a conditional license, which is as bad as getting denied. I will update you when I know something, but I have the long length of time on my side so it may not be a good comparison for you if I have a good outcome. Good Luck!

2 misdemeanors...nervous about getting into school AND getting hired
I am still learning how to use this site, apologies if you see duplicated stuff from me. I have not received my ATT yet as Flmomof5 thought. But I just sent my package in the mail on Jan 12th for Florida. I'm not sure what state you are in, but you do not necessarily HAVE to appear before the board just because you have a criminal record, you may get approved without doing that. They will let you know. I would say you stand a chance of going to the board because I assume (because of your age) that these are not in the far past and because there was a repeat offense. Keep in mind this is only my opinion!!! I am waiting to hear if I will be approved or have to go to the BON. I agree that it will be best to have an attorney represent. I have spoken to an MSN who is a lawyer that represents medical professionals before the board in Florida. I had a lengthy phone consultation with her and she said I will get licensed but that I am at risk of getting a conditional license, which is basically as bad as getting denied. She may have been trying to get my business as well, but I think if you can cough up the money, take an attorney!

2 misdemeanors...nervous about getting into school AND getting hired
If you were fingerprinted, you need to report it. It is still technically an arrest that has to e reported even if you just got a citation to appear in court and then went thru PTI. Update, I do not have my ATT yet, but just mailed my package on Jan 12th. I will keep you posted.

2 misdemeanors...nervous about getting into school AND getting hired
FLmomof5 When I get an ATT Letter (Authorization to Test) from Florida BON, does that mean that I have been approved for licensure? Or is that a separate process from the ATT? I called BON today and they said if I get the ATT, it's complete and if I get that I can test and will get licensed if I pass. Can you verify this, as I had a different idea of how this worked. I thought they would give me ATT, but then still be reviewing my info to make a licensure decision or require me to appear at the BON meeting. Also, how long did it take Florida to give you ATT after you submitted your application? I have 3 misdemeanors approx 19-21 years ago, so I will just hope that I do not have to go visit the BON! Thanks again...as always :-), for your help!

FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls
I cant speak on the paper version. I would rather have the instant results. On the computer version, you can review the section you are working on, but once the timer ends you cant go back. When I took it the second time I got a MUCH higher score. The thing I did differently on the 2nd one was on the sections I still had a lot of questions left, I stopped when the timer had 2 minutes left and scanned thru and answered the easy ones and guessed at the rest...no penalties for wrong answers, so just get them all in. I had to do that on the math section. 1st time I ran out of time and left a lot blank. At FSCJ, you CANNOT retake a class if you got a "C" or better. You would have to retake somewhere else.

FSCJ Fall 2010 ACCEPTED
I didnt buy the doseage book either,. the girl in the bookstore that helped is in rn program and she told me NO,, dont need it.

How is the FCCJ/FSCJ RN program?
I bought the book recommended, I think it was by Arco. Don't bother. It was a waste of money. You either know the stuff on the NAT or you dont. You could review some Anatomy and Chemistry on your own, other than that there isnt much you can do. Just wait until you have taken both Anat and Chem then take it so that stuff is fresh in your mind. Other than the science, its stuff you learned in High School, reading comprehension, basic math, etc...
