  1. Hello, I am a nursing student who is trying to get my CNA. I will be sitting for my NCLEX this summer and want to become a RN then. I have a criminal history with about 4 things from about 11+ years ago. I assume that I will be called in front of the board. Does anyone know if, when I do go before them, should I bring a lawyer? I am not sure exactly what a lawyer will do but want to be as prepared as possible. I actually called my family's lawyer to ask and he suggested I post here and ask if anyone knows or has had a similar experience or advice. I live in Maryland. Thanks!
  2. @motivatedlilly oh that would be really frustrating to get turned down by a school and not know why I didn't have a single problem getting into MC. I have gone to clinicals with no issues. It is just that when I went to get my CNA license through the BON so I could work as a tech while finishing up school, I was unable to get a 90 day letter like everyone else due to the fact that I have a record. Now I am stressed about it and hoping that it doesn't take forever- or that I will have put in all this work for nothing. I do feel encouraged by your post and the posts of others who say that they know of nurses with "a past" who are licensed and working. Good luck with your journey. I will keep you updated with what happens to me. Also, MC is a great school. I really like it and have learned a lot there.
  3. @Lyn222RN- Hi, how long did it take for the board to contact you to sit and defend yourself in front of them? How long did it take to get your license after that? Also, did you get your cna first and if so, did you have to go through the same waiting and sitting in front of the board again for the RN? I am in my last semester at MC and from what I can tell, we have some stuff in common with long ago charges. Thanks for any answers.
