You are NOT allergic to...
The other day I had a patient allergic to water.

Accused of narcotic/ alcohol abuse... No clue what this is about!
This seems very sketchy. I highly doubt this is real as they are asking you to enroll into a program without even conducting an investigation. I'd bet its all designed to create panic. Make sure you don't call the number on the letter, but use the state nursing boards contact info from their website.

The Honest NCLEX Exam
At various points in the test you will be required to contact the help desk. That help desk will request you to call the other help desk and set it up so both help desks can speak to each other. There may be situations where the help desk calls YOU and requires you to connect both help desks so they can resolve another student's test.

Peri-Op 101 Final Exam
Haven't taken it yet but I will soon. I hear there are those choose all that apply, matching answers, placing steps in correct order type questions. I'm not too optimistic, but I'll be studying the modules again on the areas I don't feel confident about and redoing all the module tests. Let us know how it goes! Goodluck.

Coworker tried converting me on my break
She means the best, but it is inappropriate. I think it warrants a one time "I'm not comfortable talking about this". After that you'd follow up with your direct manager.

Got into a car accident after working a night shift
What helps me the most is getting a hot drink (hot chocolate for me) and sipping that on the way home. Snacking helps too. I have a 30 min drive and if I start to feel myself getting tired I'll pull over at the nearest store to get out of the car to walk around. Sometimes I'll stop at a gas station on the way and get a lottery ticket, snack for the rest of the drive, or nothing at all. Anything to push the reset button on my drive home. Maybe you could split your drive up like this while you're adjusting to nights.

Well-worn debate. Men in OB
Thanks for all the great insight so far. Klone made a good point about needed another member of the healthcare team present during examinations. I'm sure that would be an obstacle many hospitals wouldn't want to deal with. Hopefully with the increase of men in nursing, some barriers will eventually be broken down.

Well-worn debate. Men in OB
hi everyone. i'm in my last semester of nursing school and am looking at what areas i would like to work. during my rotations i've always had a good time, except psych, and found all areas interesting. however, i had the absolute best time of them all during my ob rotation. i loved the atmosphere and working with the mother and newborn. surprisingly, being a male, i was well accepted with all of my patients as i cannot remember a time when i was asked not to be in the room. for my senior preceptorship i am going to be working in the nicu and am excited for that opportunity. the only opposition i have received is from instructors who seem to try and discourage me from working in l&d, an area i loved. even though it is a vulnerable time for them, patients seem to feel comfortable with me caring for them. i wanted to know what some of your experiences are with male ob nurses, especially on l&d. were they well received, good at their jobs, etc? also, would you say there aren't many because the department doesn't tend to hire them or because many men don't apply for those jobs? thanks for your help! nate
