  1. Currently learning to troubleshoot NG tubes. The procedure document my clinicals instructor gave me says "if the exit mark on the NGT is no longer visible, pull back the NGT and resecure to the patient's face/nose". I'm a bit confused about what this means. Pull the NGT tube where? Or back to what? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I'm currently planning a relocation to a new city, and am considering trying to get a travel contract to start out with. That way I figure I'll have time to "shop around" and learn about the various hospitals and neighborhoods before making any permanent decisions! My question is, how do travel agencies feel about this type of travel nurse? Are they okay with nurses working only one assignment, or would they prefer someone who'll be with the agency for the long-haul? Would a recruiter be reluctant to work with me? Thanks in advance?
  3. Hi everyone, I'm almost one year into my first RN position. While I love my job (most days anyway!), I moved to the other side of the country to work here and I'm honestly not really loving this city. So, I'm looking for a new job closer to friends and family. My question is, how should I handle professional references on employment applications? Since this is my first and only nursing position, I feel like my references should come from managers and colleagues at my current position. BUT I don't really want to tell anyone that I'm thinking about leaving until I actually have an offer or at least an interview. Thoughts? What do you guys think I should do? Thanks!
  4. Hi everyone, As you all know, the job market in California is terrible for new grads! After trying unsuccessfully to land a job after graduation, I finally decided to take a position at a hospital here on the East Coast. I absolutely love my job, and I'm learning so much, but to be honest I'm really not loving living here. I miss the sunshine, I miss the food, and most of all I miss my friends! My goal now is to finish out the year here and move to L.A. I have a BSN plus a previous master's, and the hospital where I work now is very well-respected--so my credentials are good. But I'm just hoping that that will be enough to open up some doors for me back west! I'm wondering if any former new grads were able to land a job back home after a year away? And if so, how you did it, when you started applying, etc. I would be grateful for any advice. I think that hearing some success stories from people who were in my position would really help lift my spirits on this cold and rainy day!
  5. Okay, thanks for the information! Not gonna hold my breath for them I guess Congrats to everyone hired at UCLA and good luck to those still waiting for calls!
  6. Quick question: does anyone's status say "wait-listed"? Just checked and that's what mine says, but I was never even contacted for an interview so I just wonder what that means...
  7. hey uscdg, just wanted to let you know that if you are still interested, the residency program app is back up on the website!
  8. Just wondering if anyone who applied for the Feb new grad program has received an interview yet? I applied in early Nov and got the email asking for unit choice, etc. but haven't heard anything else from them. Wondering if I'm out of the running. Thanks!
  9. So you guys think its ok to follow up? I have been wondering about this, b/c it seems like most of the hospitals I've applied to specifically ask you NOT to call or follow-up!
  10. Hey, I was just wondering when you guys applied to this? I would like to apply but I'm not sure if the application period is still open. Did you guys just email your documents in or was there a specific posting for it on the website? Thanks so much for your help and best of luck!
  11. hey patientRN, thanks for sharing your interview experience. i'm sure you did great! was just wondering if you happened to know how many people they interviewed/will be interviewing for psych? did it seem like they were interviewing lots of candidates that day? sorry, i really hope it doesn't seem like im grilling you or anything! just wondering if i should give up hope, haha.
