Nurse Internship at Washington Adventist Hospital
Congrats!!! I read on your other post that you were offered a position. Your story is truly amazing and has encouraged me not to give up and to try some different things (i.e. actually calling hospitals). I couldn't respond to your private message...but to answer your question, I did not (and never received a call for an interview). I'm still looking. How are you liking your job? Do you find the staff to be supportive?

Nurse Internship at Washington Adventist Hospital
Hi NurseLoyJoy88, My exam is actually scheduled for 12/5...how did yours go? Do you get results right away? I hope you did well! I was told to study all aspects of nursing including dose calculations and to use my NCLEX study guide...is that an accurate description of the test you took. Were there many pharmocology questions? Which unit are you hoping to intern on? Perhaps I'll see you around, InshAllah. I'm so nervous about the test and interview...believe it or not, I've never had to interview for a job in my 27 years of life....guess I've just always been fortunate enough to know someone who could get me in. Not this time though so I'm definitely worried, but I'll definitely be doing some mock interviews to help myself feel more at ease...best of luck to you!!

Private sitters in the hospital
Hello Michigangirl, I work for a home health agency that sometimes send caregivers as we call them to hospitals to work as sitters. We have a strict no sleeping on the job policy (due to patient safety concerns) and failure to comply does result in termination...this does not apply to caregivers who work live-in assignments however. I'm not certain if this person is a true private duty sitter or one they are using through an agency; either way put yourself in the family's shoes. Even if you are unsure what kind of arrangement they have, I would still mention it as an FYI (does not have to be conveyed in an accusatory or mean-hearted way) and let them deal with the situation however them deem appropriate. And if it is something that they have worked out with their sitter, it is useful information for those working on the unit to know.

Thanks for your comment RNChemo...I will definitely look before I leap. I did not realize that I had a choice when it comes to my preceptor, I figured I'd be stuck with whomever I was matched with...good to know! Scary stuff....poor hygiene and asptic technique.

Nurse Internship at Washington Adventist Hospital
I did not have an opportunity to do any clinical rotations at WAH, but I went ahead and applied to their Feb 2012 internship for the med-surg unit (just to get my feet wet before specializing). I'm scheduled to do their pre-hire exam and interview in the next few weeks, but I'm really just trying to gather information about others' experience with the internship program (on the med-surg unit would be preferred). Even if you did not participate in their intership program, if you work or worked there (again on the med-surg unit), I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
