Wecome to my world, I've been on the hunt for 2 years. Keep at it, we will both get there on day ) Also be on the look out for Skills refresher course on a local colleges, might be a good thing to have on the resume. Volunteer never hurt either.

Don't let this defeat you!! If this is what you really want to do then, be a nurse. I've been out for 2 years, so I'm worse off then you, but I keep applying and keep trying. recently I found a refresher course for new grads at a local college, and if I can find the money I gonna take it. that will look better, what happened to use will serve as a learning opportunity. Did we wither and give up, or did we dust our shoulders off and find a better place with the kind of support we deserve!!!! Cry now for a bit, I did, But don't cry forever, this too shall pass. I was let go for similar reasons, I had little support and too many preceptor. First and for most, don't panic, you will get through this. Do what I should have done and, talk your preceptor, ask her to stop talking behind you and help you. Ask her what you need to do to succede. then go to your manager and tell her everything, that you and precepitor do get along spends more time telling other about your mistakes rather teaching you, tell her about the lack of support, that you are willing to what it takes to make things work but still need the support of the staff. If things to work, make sure you leave on your own. I didn't and I think that is what is happering my finding a job. Don't let this be your undoing, don't let them get to you! Start looking for a new job within the company on a different floor first, then outside. If you know anyone at another hospital, network with them. Good luck

That's a easy question for me, it the inablility to get new nurses hired. We had thousands answer the "Nursing Shortage" call, and yet when those thousands graduated, only a handful of jobs were there. And before anyone says in was just the economy, Doctors don't seem to have a problem gettingn hired for there residency's, niether to pharmacy grads. There has got to be better way to transition more new nurses from student to competant nurse, and it has to be more then a few people at a time even when the economy is slow!!!!!!

Good tips, wish I had comunity hospitals in my area. I have joined a professional group and they have been soo helpful to me! Will have to looking to taking some classes to see if it helps, but and this point I feel it would be crazy not to apply at every opportunity I see.

NOPE, at least not in Seattle. All employers care about is experience. I have a BSN and I have been looking for almost 2 years. I was told that having the degree will mostly help in the future, some hospitals require it, but are willing to hiring if you go enroll in school with in months. Good luck with what ever you choose.

While Nursing school was hard and brought me to tears, nothing compares to searching 2 years for job your not "qualified" for. I have never been so hurt, angry and frustrated on a daily basis. I can remember hating school at time, but never do I remember thinking I was wasting my time and should give up....Until now. To have a degree (BSN), and to push through school, sacrifice so much thinking that it will all be better, only to find out it was lie, and you are about as wanted as a bum on the street....*sigh To those who have found a job, cherish it, to those still in school good luck the real battle begins AFTER the nclex.

HA is all I have to say to them!! I don't know the exact numbers but there are more people then jobs out there. I have been searching for over a year! the "shortage" is a lie!! Yes school need more good educators, that is true if education over all, not just nursing. One job I applied to, was open for only 12 hours because they had almost 100 people apply, ask the recuiter how many would get the job, she said only 3!

Washington State, Seattle-Tacoma area, and like someone said were New grad. Those "millions" of jobs are you sure they are for new grads or for those that have at least one or more years experience? Because I have found some hospitals out hear with 20 or more posting, but not for us newbies.

Working retail is where I'm headed I can't get a job soon! Still I haven't giving up yet either. Good luck :)

That job sound great, be thankful besides you can do so much as an IT nurse within a hospital if you choose to leave it won't matter that you aren't "in a clinical area"!!!

You do what you have to do. I spent an entire year looking for a job before I found one (graduated may 09), then lost that job just 4 months later. Now I'm back looking for a job again. I've also started to apply for part time job doing anything, dishwashing, cashiering ect. It sucks but that seems to be life right now. I haven't applyed for CNA jobs because having an RN license means that I and the facility could be liable if I do something wrong. I worked to hard for the to throw it away. Ironiclly I worked so hard I can't even use the stupid thing Hopefully so this "anti-new grad" thing will go away and will all be in demand again! Good luck:twocents:

Well after graduating in May 2009, moving back to my home state, I waiting a full year for my first nuring job, and after 4 months and the old "it's just not working out". So here I am again, applying to every job I can find within driving distance. In the mean time I've been doing odd jobs for family for money, volunteer at my church it keep busy. Starting in a few weeks I'm going to start volunteering at the humane society.

I feel your pain, I graduated in May 09, and here I am looking for a job after the first I landed (after and year of searching didn't want me any more!) I really wish I knew the secret to getting a job, because clearly having a degree, or having previous experience in the medical field doesn't matter, if you have no RN experience for at least 1 year, there seems to be no hope! But I'll keep trying, naively I guess, I have no money left to go back to school for something else, and I don't know what it would be if I did, nursing has been my focus since I was a child! what's that suppose to mean:confused: please tell me you are trying to be sarcastic, and you understood i meant the "image" of nursing, that is to say the nurses in my mind as child stood out do to there actions, not what they wore! i hardly see how my lack of expirence would have to do with how a view nursing as a whole, or is there a certain number of years a person need to work in order to form or keep an opinion of their professsion?

I graduated my May 09 with my BSN, and passed board that July. I took me a full year to get a job, so I am beyond grateful, I'm blessed to have a job! I'm in a residency on a med/tele floor that currently has ortho as well but over the next year will become PCU instead. I as happy were I'm at, I have a great preceptor, great co-worker and my bosses are really nice. But I am not were I want to be. I want NICU, and I know in a few years I will start to move that way, starting with mother/baby or L&D.

Would I no, just as when I worked in factory, I didn't wear the jeans I was expected to wear while working. That being said I was passed over in many interviews despite dressing "apporpriately" and being told I was an excellent canidate. Take from that what you will. I am still sticking to my belief that my scrubs have little to do with what kind of nurse I am. If others have a problem with me, whether it is my clothing or my skin color that will be there problem. I care for my patients the best way I can, and I get better everyday, even with the teddy bears on. Since so many of you think that projects a poor image, thats fine, I keep my own image of nursing (the one I've had in my head since childhood), and the rest of you can go about creating your own. As for my all caps...yes I was getting angry, which is why I step away from the board. I don't want to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I have. As for the red color, I wanted a color other then black and clicked red by mistake.

:mad: SORRY TO BURST YOURS BUT ACTUALLY I DON'T!!! Yes I might see a person across the room and think that is a woman when it could be a man is true, however I DO NOT say they are incompentent or unprofessional based on that!! People who do that run the risk of treating that person differently because that that judgement. Tell me what is the diffrence between that and discrimination? Yes I am human, BUT I DON'T JUDGE PEOPLE. Since people don't seem to understand what I am saying, I give up trying to explain, just know that a few people REFUSE TO JUDGE THEN TREAT PERSON DIFFERENTLY BASED ON APPEARANCE!!

What part of I DON'T JUDGE PEOPLE LEST I BE JUDGED is not getting through. I have been judged before, therfore I don't look and people and make judgements, I wait until I see them interact or they start talking. And if you read my post and the OP he wasn't referring to clothing that is too tight or showed too much skin, I specifically said scrubs with Charactors on them ie disney, teddy bears, rainbows ect. Maybe the rest of you can go about your life looking at people and making snap judgements about what kind of person they are based on how they look, I seriously don't. Becuase it starts with what they are wearing but that practice can and DOES become racial (as it is for me), gender, reliogious ect ect ect.

I'm going to say this once as this seems to apply to me only, so please don't take this the wrong way but I DON'T LIE!! Having spent my ENTIRE life being judged by my looks (racial) I can honestly say that I don't think a person in uncompetent or unprofessional because they are wearing teddy bears or winne the pooh. And I try really hard not to make judgement on them period until I meet them. Just because people do it doesn't mean you should.

My last job did because "people couldn't tell who there nurse was"....a stupid excuse do to the fact that everyone from the secretary to the dietary aide is in scrubs, the ones who complain are diagnosed with confusion anyway, and people don't or can't read. So they color coded badges and went to a stict color scheme. I hated it. Now I am at a new place where I can wear what I want as long as it is clean and covers my body. And I'm new, my clothing are all I can fight right now:p I don't consider teddy bears, angels and rainbows, flowers ect children prints. teddy bears they are symbols that have meaning to adults and well and children. Just as trains are collected by adults so too and bears, so cost hundreds. What I consider restrictive is being told what to wear period and yes that is one reason why I don't work in an office environment. I'm sick of people saying you wear a suit to court and solid scrubs to adult units, comparing scrubs to office attire is apples and oranges for me. My point was that some office jobs are not as formal and strict in dress codes as others and they are no less "prefessional"! I don't have a pic, but the man was barefoot around the office when I was there as child. Remember Seattle is not like other citys, we wear sandals in winter with socks!
