Palliative care
Hi again! Thanks for the ELNEC recommendation, smurfynursey, I am hoping I can get some ceu units & possibly have it covered by my work...we'll see! I am still a very new "baby nurse" but my unit pays for us to sit for the CPON cert after 1 year of practice. I don't think they have any nurses who are CHPPN certified, but my hospital does have a Palliative Care team and I am hoping to let them know early on that I'm very interested in this field. jsmnkids -- I was one of your former nursing students. I was going to contact you to update you on what I'm doing...and here you are : ) Small world! I will send you an email this evening. All the best to both of you!

Pearson view trick doesnt work
There is nothing to indicate that you failed, just be patient. Sometimes it takes longer for random reasons. I waited 8 weeks for the CA BON to post my name...had to re-send my transcripts to them. It was awful & excruciating waiting that long, but the Pearsonvue trick definitely worked for me nonetheless. Keep breathing, you'll know soon. Good luck!

Palliative care
Hi there! I wanted to follow up and see what you decided about this certification. I am a new grad pediatric oncology RN with an interest in palliative care. This certification sounds right up my alley but I don't know much (and it will probably be a while before I pursue it anyways.) Anything to share? Thanks!

New Graduate.....take a year off before I start???
From graduation (end of August) to start date for my new job (March) was 7 months for me...You might actually get time off before starting anyways. ...and my job offer was relatively quick compared to many new grads right now! Anywhere from 6months to over a year for a hospital position is pretty normal. Good luck

Considering CNA while in RN school...
It's a great idea & worth the experience/networking potential. All the students in my class who worked as CNAs got jobs first, or had them lined up before we graduated. The rest of us had to scramble quite a bit harder and many of us are not getting acute care jobs (working sub acute, home health, LTC) or we're being hired float/per diem. Granted, I'm in California where the new grad RN market is horribly impacted & competitive... Good luck!

Transcripts: California BRN
You only need to send transcripts from your RN school. I did not end up sending from my other schools and got my RN license last October. You send in a piece of paperwork with your application that outlines pre-requisite courses taken from other schools. Good luck!

Nope...erased the notification...of course!

Interview questions for peds oncology position?
Nope, I just remember she was a professor from her profile and I thought it was reflected in her screen name somehow... Basically everything after December 14th was lost. What a bummer...HOWEVER, I bet I've still got my old email notification from her response! That may be a lead! How did your interview go??

Interview questions for peds oncology position?
Hi There! Some of the posts in this thread were deleted after the AN site re-do : ( ...there was a member on here who wrote about having experience in Peds BMT. I contacted her via private message but her response to me was also deleted after the shut-down. Anyone by chance remember who that other poster was on here? She had "professor" or "prof" in her name... Long-shot, I know, but thanks!

"Smart Is The New Rich" Graduate Nurses Cannot Find Work
Similar topic, better written in my opinion: "New California nursing graduates find it hard to get hired" http://www.sacbee.com/2011/12/04/4097980/new-california-nursing-graduates.html Cheers!

March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program
A friend of mine who works in health care said it was pretty standard to call in about double the number they were looking to hire -- so interviewing 11 for 6 positions on PICU sounds about right. Probably a little better than 50% chance of hiring?? That's pretty good odds! Good luck!!!!

March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program
Does anyone have a sense of how many folks were invited to the round two interviews? If you got a 2nd interview, what's the probability of actually landing a position at this point? I'm assuming your chances are greatly improved, but then we've also heard that some units are only hiring internally, others aren't...any thoughts?? Good luck to everyone who's moving on in this process

New Grad Job Hunting
I don't know where you're located, but in California the job-market is very contracted, over-saturated with new grads, and VERY competitive. We're easily seeing 1200-1500 applications for new grad programs at the major teaching hospitals (with few positions available) and I've been hearing about smaller hospitals being flooded w/ as many as 500 apps for a single opening. The new grad positions are few and far between! HR departments are swamped...getting responses from them is basically impossible unless you get miraculously selected for an interview. Not to mention it often takes them months to actually get back to you to scheduled the interview... Priority seems to be given to: RNs who already have their license (rather than interim permit), internal applicants, BSN or direct-entry MSNs, applicants who previously worked in an acute care setting as a tech or CNA... Many new grads are taking side-jobs to cover themselves in the meantime: working as CNAs or Techs, volunteering, working in vaccination clinics, and networking, networking, networking like crazy....some new grads are taking jobs outside the acute care setting such as LTC, SNF, Home-health, or research. I don't know if everywhere is as bad as this, but that's been the story over here. I'm not surprised at all that no one is giving you personal feedback on your application. I don't think it's right, but I'm not surprised...

PS: What a bummer to go through all the work & then they only hire internally in the end...Good luck on the rest of your search!!

March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program
Which department?? -- I just missed a phone-call from them too & the message didn't sound encouraging

March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program
It was a mix. I'd suggest you take a look at the many threads on here w/ nursing interview question advice & prepare accordingly. Competition is fierce, so be ready for everything & anything -- & try to figure out ways to make your talents stand out no matter what "type" of question is asked. Good luck!!

March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program
I'm interviewing on the 21st! Super nervous/excited -- this is my first RN job interview I've been called for. I graduated in August & I already have my license, however I only had my interim permit when I applied. I'll be coming down from Northern CA. I'm wishing everyone good luck!

PVT Trick says that I "previously passed"...is this right?
Apparently my 1st set of transcripts from my school never showed up...believe me, I called & called & emailed & called. TOTALLY unacceptable. But at least the PVT trick worked

PVT Trick says that I "previously passed"...is this right?
Hi friends! I tested in California and got the PVT good pop-up (actually I go the original good pop-up & then they morphed to the new "candidate has previously passed" verbage)...it took over 7 weeks for my name to show up on the BRN website, but I can attest that the good pop-up works. Even when you have to wait an ungodly amount of time for your results. Congrats to you all!!!!!!

6 week NCLEX-versary & STILL not results...sigh...
After almost two months waiting for the CA BRN, I finally found out I passed and got my license!!!! The worst part was feeling fairly certain I passed NCLEX but getting zero response form the BRN about the status of my application or why it was taking so long. Anyways, I'm official now and so happy to join the nursing club!!!

Should I go for my BSN or ADN?
Also consider what the hiring market is for your area (or the region you might want to work in) -- I'm in Northern California and it seems the trend for the new grad residency programs, and many of the hospitals, is to phase out ADNs. Most of the new grad positions I've seen recently have either only accepted BSNs or said "BSN-preferred" which, due to the over-saturation of qualified BSN RNs where I live, means that most of the ADNs are having a LOT of difficulty getting jobs. So for the region/market in my area I'd definitely say get the BSN. It makes one far more competitive around here. Ultimately, you'll have to make the decision for what would be best for you depending on where you want to work & what the hiring climate is there. Good luck!

6 week NCLEX-versary & STILL not results...sigh...
Thanks Lauren!! I'm really hoping I find out something as I head into week 7.....

6 week NCLEX-versary & STILL not results...sigh...
Today marks week 6 since I took NCLEX. Computer turned off at 75 questions, PVT gives me the "candidate has already passed this exam" pop-up...but I STILL don't have a license number posted on the CA BRN website. My first set of transcripts never showed (very weird my school is very reliable b/c they mail to the BRN all the time), so I ordered some more late last month. No one is telling me anything other than to keep on waiting & by now I'm just so tired of waiting!! California BRN is sooooo slow and inefficient. I'm sure they could figure out a better system for tracking and processing these exam results...argh!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had to vent.

PVT Trick says that I "previously passed"...is this right?
Looks like they've changed the verbage on the good pop-up. I took my exam in early Sept & am having trouble w/ my results due to some transcript issues -- so I've been doing the PVT occasionally to relieve my stress. I did it just now and also got the "this candidate has previously passed this exam..." statement which is definitely not what they were posting earlier this month. Feels even better when they actually use the word "passed" I hope I get me real results soon, though. Congratulations to everyone!!!!!!!!!!! Passing NCLEX is a huge accomplishment!!!!

Waiting for my results!
Yep, graduated in California. Did the PVT again yesterday & still get the good pop-up :) ....the wait is killing me, but I think I'm fine. Turned off at 75 also. Take care!
