New to LTAC
Hello ladies! I just found the the LTAC space.... I looked because I just accepted a full time position at a LTAC hospital- they have a floor in a hospital. I am nervous because all my experience is in sub-acute rehab & wounds. They offer a great orientation- 3 months with the option of extending if needed! (I have been a nurse for three years). I just gave notice last night at my current job-- 3 weeks, then two days off for myself than orientation begins! My coworker is also starting at the same time so that is helpful! He is friends with the charge nurses on nights (our new shift) and he gave my name which is how I got the interview! Is is there anything I should review? I plan to review acid/base balance because of the vent patients, but I want to be proactive! Thanks is for any advice, ideas! Tracy

Best sites to look for jobs after becoming a RN?
Hmmmmmm..... I don't know about craigslist for RN jobs(I wouldn't do it!), but I would recommend the hospital/facility directly!! They all have their own careers page... Most of them you need to apply online anyway. I have used Career builder as well with some listing... most seem to be agency though, but some regular RN positions at hospitals, LTC, etc. Good Luck on your future job search!! I just graduated in December 10, passed boards in February 10, and found my very 1st Nursing job (full time) in March! I was worried I couldn't find a job at first because no one called me back for about 6 weeks.... then the call!!!! They hired me, but the pay is GOOD too! It is 45 minutes away from my house so it helps if you are willing to drive a bit or even relocate. :)

NCLEX RN GONE BAD
There is a whole thread on this in the student section- A poll and comments from people...... I believe it is accurate due to a glitch in the pearson website...... I know it worked for me and I found out early I passed even though I was skeptical....

NCLEX RN GONE BAD
Sorry if I wasn't clear... I passed the first time in February... I am starting my 1st RN job tomorrow actually. I don't have any first hand advice to share, just what I wrote about the classmate I know who didn't pass the first time. ****Edit*******Ahhhhh..... You weren't talking to me! Gotcha!! :)

NCLEX RN GONE BAD
No- I am sorry I passed. A girl from my class failed so I was advising you from what she told me. I believe they will mail you something soon with areas that you need to improve. I am sorry I can't be help! How much did you study? What book/s did you use? Maybe try a review class like Kaplan or a different one. I know the girl from my class signed up for a review class and she liked it. She is retesting this week.

NCLEX RN GONE BAD
That is a bad sign.... Pearson Vue Trick worked for me... It wouldn't let me register after the test and I passed. but I know someone who failed and it is not the end of the world! Take some time to be upset and then get studying..... You got this! I believe the send you a print out with areas that you didn't do well on to study for the next time..... **Hugs**

can I lose my license...
Ouch! This was quite harsh in my opinion! I think you completely miss read the situation... Perhaps try going back to re-read the original post. She stated the patient had an X-Ray and was found to have a fracture after that another resident informed someone(Rehab) that the patient in question had fallen... The original poster was then notified and questioned a CNA who advised she did assist another CNA with the patient who stated she fell to the floor during a transfer- this incident had happened the prior week and the Original poster was not notified by either CNA involved so it doesn't appear they knew to not leave patient on floor after fall to be assessed by nurse. I feel the original poster was wrong not to fill out an incident report when she learned of the incident but she was not "mean, neglectful, abusive and wrong"- She needs to make it clear to the CNA's (which they should already know) that if any patient has a fall that the need to be assessed by the RN immediately which requires notifying the RN on duty!!! It sounds to me like the CNA was trying to cover up the fall to avoid getting in trouble- Just my thought! I hope everything worked out ok for you, mRpeNa!

Yeah!! New job starts tomorrow!
Tomorrow I start my orientation for a LTC facility..... I am excited, nervous, scared, joyful, and a few other unnamed emotions. I have been waiting 2 weeks to start out... I just have orientation to the facility on Thursday and Friday which is just in a classroom, then 2 more days of "nursing" orientation as in the classroom then I was told I could have 2-3 weeks of orienation on the floor depending on my needs... She said that I could ask for more, but they would probably not do more than 4.... I am a little worried because my good friend works at a LTC (different one) and she only had 2 days orientation to floor before she was on her own..... I plan to speak up and ask for more if I don't feel comfortable, but what if follow through with the original plan?? I am probably worrying too much! Words of encouragement? Advice? Anyway- I have super cute scrubs to wear for work and comfy shoes! So let the work begin!!

New Nurse...How to get Along?
My only advice is Kill Her With Kindness! She might come around, but if she doesn't she will look bad not you. :) It sucks to have to deal with people like that!

Trying to make a decision! LPN? RN?
Hello all.... I am trying to make a decision! I am having trouble deciding what to do.... Ugh- I am currently in an accelerated RN program and am about half way through... I am actually at the point where I can take my LPN NCLEX if I wanted to. The issue is that I am thinking about stopping now and working as an LPN for a while(1 to 2 years) then I would stay at home for at least 6 years possibly longer- The reasons why are: My husband and I are broke! :) he is a grad student can't work more than 20 hours per week. I work 6.... We want to have a baby soon- hope to start trying in Nov of this year.... I plan to stay home to take care of the children once we start. (We are both on board for this as he will have his Master's for electrical engineering and will be able to support us on his income only.) If I am planning on working for a year or two then taking a long break, why take all this extra time when I can be working and saving money right now! When I want to go back to work I could do LPN again, finish RN at that point or I can always go back to teaching which is what my first degree is in. LPN can make great money! I don't know... I have talked with a lot of people and some think I should keep going and others think LPN will be the smart choice. I am leaning toward LPN, but part of me hates to think I wouldn't be finishing what I start with the program. Thoughts?

What book do you guys have for Fundamentals?
Hey! :) I am finishing up my first semesters (fundamentals) too! :) We don't have a comp exam though! We have a few books though- Fundamentals of Nursing by Harkreader, Hogan, & Thobaben. We use this for lecture mostly and Medical Surgical Nursing by Ignatavicious & Workman for lecture too. We use Taylor's Clinical Nursing Skills with DVD set for skills lab. Good Luck with the studies! I am writing a paper on cultural awareness. I have to turn it in today by midnight so I am have to get back at it!
