Thank you. Yes, it's CA but I do not live in CA. I live in AZ and have a compact license that covers my current job role. The CA license is just one of my additional nursing licenses.

Hey! Hoping to get an answer here before I call and wait on hold tomorrow. My license expired last week on 5/31 and is in delinquent status right now. I completed my 30 CEUs in September 2021, so less than 2 years ago. Can I renew based on those completed CEUs and just make sure to complete another 30 by September of this year (when it's actually the 2 year mark)? That's what I gathered from the attached FAQ I found on Breeze. Or am I interpreting it incorrectly?

Does anyone have any experience with this role? I currently work for the company in a different role and am thinking about transferring but I'd like an unbiased opinion from those who are familiar with it.

I’m sure you’ve decided by now, but working 12 hr shifts was always hard for me when it came to the kids. I hated the idea of being gone before they woke up and not getting home until they were already asleep. Yes, it was only 3 days a week but it made me feel horrible. When I finally left I never looked back. Every position I’ve had since then (6 years ago) has been where I’m able to work my own hours or work from home. I have 4 kids- 2 teens and a 4&2 year old. I regret missing the time and extracurricular activities with my older kids when they were small.

Received offer for a prior auth position at a major insurance plan. What’s a day like? Something was mentioned about being on the phone queue- sounds awful. Does this position lack autonomy? How long does one auth take to complete usually? I haven’t been able to find much info about this position online and all my insurance experience has been CM which is extremely flexible and not micromanaged. Scared of making the wrong choice.

I had an appt with my psych NP today and he suggested talk therapy too. I’m going to give it a try.

I actually thought about this long and hard yesterday and did realize something. The jobs that I’ve held the longest didn’t require a lot of collaboration and I mainly worked alone-writing reports, records review, etc. The jobs that I tend to not last long at are those that require constant interaction with patients/coworkers and have no daily structure. A recent job I left was due to daily collaborative meetings that would last 3 or more hours. It was mentally draining for me. My current position is field case management and has no structure so I never know what to expect which bothers me. Now I’m thinking this is more related to my anxiety than anything. The new position I currently hold is actually BH Case management and I dabbled in a substance abuse clinic before where I only lasted two shifts. I don’t feel that the BH CM job is for me because I haven’t encountered one person who actually wanted or truly needed assistance so far. The referrals are mostly for anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder but they’re all already set up with services and managed. The referrals for the substance abusers get no where because they don’t return calls or answer the phone. I feel like a solicitor trying to help people who don’t want it. These are all good suggestions but the issue is that I haven’t done patient care since 2016. I was in and out of hospital systems until I accepted the fact that it wasn’t the individual hospitals I didn’t like, it was patient care as a whole. Dealing with rude, ungrateful patients along with the unrealistic expectations of hospital administration wasn’t for me. I’ve been working for the major insurance companies in case management and quality management. When I was first diagnosed my provider did think that my difficulty staying focused and needing to move around was related to the condition. But now I truly don’t know if this is just a personality trait of mine or bipolar related which is why I wanted opinions. Even as a child I couldn’t sit still and would switch from one extracurricular activity to the next. I sought out the psych help because I thought I had ADHD but when I informed him of the behaviors I had earlier last year that brought me to him, I learned that I was actually having (at that point) a 7 month manic phase (which I don’t understand how I didn’t recognize as a nurse but I definitely see now that I was 100% manic)

No judging please. I’ve been a nurse for 10 years and the longest I have stayed in a position was 23 months but that included an almost 4 month maternity leave. No matter how hard I try to stay, I just can’t help it. I’ve had PRN jobs where I worked 2 shifts and decided to move on and Im currently in a new full time role (2 months) and am ready to call it quits (which I feel really bad about because the people have been amazing and of course it was a waste of their time). Obviously, this is affecting my life in a negative way (my husband is fed up with it) but I have no idea what to do or how to control it. I’m compliant with my medication, so I’m at a loss. I excel in all of the jobs I hold and end up being a resource to other staff and a team lead but I shy away from leadership positions when asked because even if I feel I can stick around, the logical part of my brain knows I can’t. Can anyone provide any type of insight or direction on how to overcome this? I have a psych follow up next week and will bring it up then but looking for opinions.

Not sure what SC is but I actually have an interview with BCBS this Friday for a CM position. Hours are standard M-F, 8-5. I have read reviews on Glassdoor that their benefits are pretty good. Salary would depend on your location. I’ve done insurance CM before and I love it. Have worked from home for the past 5 years and it provides a really good work life balance to get things done as long as you don’t get stuck with micromanagement leadership. Make sure to ask in the interview the process for appointments, errands, etc.

Does anyone work or previously worked for Optum or Aetna? I have a CM interview coming up with Optum and have 2 upcoming interviews for Aetna- UM and CM (A1A kind of unclear on what that means exactly). Can anyone give any insight? Did you enjoy it? Meeting metrics, etc? I left my CM position at another insurance company to work in Quality and I absolutely hate it (and the pay) and wish I’d never left.

My opinion is to take the nurse navigator position and pick up a per diem patient care job if at all possible. I say this because acute care nurses often get burned out and start looking into case management, quality, etc but have a hard time getting those roles because they often require experience and are very competitive (so if it was offered to you that’s amazing). I think the nurse navigator role will be good to have on your resume. What setting is the nurse navigator role in?

OMG this post is so helpful because what was stated on the website had me very confused. My initial license was issued in 2015 but has been in inactive status since 2017. Recently decided to renew since many remote positions require CA licensure now. Glad I don’t have to go through that process again.

Thanks everyone but all of these suggestions have already been done several times over. I’ve decided to look into travel nursing in my state so that I can hopefully grab some of these crisis rates and save as much as possible.

I'm an RN and have been since 2012. Currently a state government employee mainly for the benefits. No copays (comes in handy with kids who are rowdy and injury prone), $3 prescriptions, pension with 100% match (13% taken out of my check), etc- this became especially important after a couple family hospitalizations that brought serious medical debt and the private sector medical insurance we had was absolutely no help at all-. The issue is I'm literally living check to check. Anyone who has worked for the public sector knows the pay is subpar with no raises but like I said before I got into this for the benefits which I seriously need. I believe I'll be vested after 5 years and can leave but until then I don't know what to do. I've went the route of having a weekend home health per diem job but that left me working 7 days a week with no time for anything else. I actually love my job so I don't necessarily want to leave. My husband is a truck driver and works hard but without my previous salary we're struggling- I crunched all the numbers before accepting the govt job and thought it would be fine but clearly I was wrong. I guess I'm wondering if there are any companies where I could work overnight remotely or any ideas of what I could do to make extra money? This is seriously stressing me out beyond belief.

I actually resigned two weeks ago. The company was WAYYY too unorganized for me. Car stock aside, it was all around just bad. I’d do SOC visits on the weekends for patients and the patients would never get seen again because mgt would forget to assign them a CM, office staff would claim that the patient accepted services and I’d drive 30 miles to them just for them to tell me that they had informed the office they weren’t interested, just so many things smh. Now I need to find another PRN position that’s worth while because I’m a government employee and public sector pay is hard to live on alone.

I agree and have been thinking about finding a new agency. The only thing holding me back is that it’s hard to find time to orient to a new agency while already having a full time job. It was hard enough to make this one work out. I’d love to go back to my old agency but they don’t have PRN, only part time.

I recently started with a new HH agency as PRN weekends. I have a full time M-F 8-5. This isn’t the first HH agency I’ve been with, I used to do it full time. At the previous agency I was with full time, when it came to needing any supplies, SOC packets, etc., we could pop into the office at anytime night or day (we had key cards) and get what we needed out of the supply room OR we could email the in office staff responsible for ordering supplies and tell her what we needed and she’d ship it to our house overnight. This new agency does not allow nurses to just come in and get what they need and only the director has a key to the supply room. It’s extremely hard to get supplies. Whenever I reach out for supplies I’m told to try and get with another nurse or given an excuse as to why the director can’t help me with supplies at that very moment. It’s frustrating, especially because the office is not open on the weekends when I work and I’m the ONLY weekend nurse. The whole set up seems off to me. Is this normal? There are a lot of other things that are weird to me about the way they do things but I can easily ignore those things since I’m PRN but the whole car stock thing is exhausting. I have been having to do way more improvising than I’d like with patients (this agency is heavily wound care based).

None of what you described is normal. I have only worked with two HH agencies but neither have required me to follow patients while they are hospitalized (especially if you’re paid per visit and NOT salaried). The intake dept and liaisons/marketing dept is responsible for that. The following doctor is also finalized by them when they accept a patient. If your schedule is full time M-F, then no, it’s not your responsibility to see patient on the weekend. That should be the duty of the weekend nurses or on-call nurse if the agency doesn’t have weekend nurses. Honestly, I’d move on if I were you.

Nursing is one of the most well rounded, diverse professions out there so I definitely don’t agree with your statement.

Thanks, I’ve seen that book mentioned in a corrections forum before, I’ll grab a copy. Do you have any thoughts on county corrections working intake vs. outpatient clinic? As of right now, I doubt I’ll be taking the epidemiology position. I calculated and the pay is just too low. After pension, benefits, and taxes my take home would be about $1500 per pay period. Not worth it when you add on 2+ hours of sitting in traffic daily. I’ll have to probably stalk the county website for the rare chance than another RN position pops up.
