Anyone relocate without a job and was successful landing one soon after?
Thank you TheCommuter. I appreciate your response. I actually applied to positions in OKC, Tulsa and Wichita before I was licensed. I will try again now that I have a license.

Anyone relocate without a job and was successful landing one soon after?
Hi all, I have been thinking about this question and decided to just throw it out here to see if I can get some help. I graduated with an associate degree in December 2011, and passed the NCLEX about 9 days ago. I am a single mom who really really needs to work. I started applying for jobs before I graduated and since I passed the nclex but it's been rejections all the way (I am aware it is not just me).I must have applied to 100 jobs by now. I am willing to work in nursing homes but the nursing homes in my area are not hiring. I have called several of them and even went in person to some, travelling as much as 2 hours to get to a few of them, but it is the same story. So I have the following questions: If you relocated to another state/city, can you tell me which city and yor opinion about the employment prospects? Secondly, does anyone have experience of being hired at a ltc/skilled nursing facility while out of state? So any suggestions with places I can consider? I was under the impression that Michigan, Texas,Oklahoma, are not too bad but it seem that may be incorrect. Finally, because of my son's health, places like Eagle Pass (or the border towns),Minot or very rural locations etc is not an option for me. My son has a blood disorder and I need to be close to a children's hospital or at least a place where they will be familiar with his condition. Yeah I know it won't be easy but I welcome all suggestions including private messages. Thank you for your assistance. p.s. I am currently in a compact state and I have a compact license.

I would like some recommendations and advice about getting a job. I would prefer to work in a hospital but if any one can help me with nursing homes that are hiring that will be great too. Also can you apply to nursing homes from out of state? Thank you for your assistance. Please feel free to send me a private message if you like

RN jobs in El, Paso Texas
Hi, I don't live in El Paso but I also considered moving there. The major health systems are the University hospital center (a level 1 trauma center), Sierra health and Del Sol Las Palmas. I always see lots of openings on their websites. I think University prefers BSN.They are also building a new children's hospital that opens in January 2012. About places to live, I understand the west side is better but check city data forum (texas-el paso) and you can get lots of info about the area. That is where I go to get info on cities. Sierra health is owned by Tenet while Del sol is owned by HCA. University is a not-for-profit and most of their openings say bilingual (spanish) preferred. It seem there are lots of jobs in the area. Hope this helps and good luck.

transfer nclex pass score from california to texas
I don't think Maryland require a SSN. Maryland is a compact state as is Texas. If Texas is where you want to work, you may want to check the licensing requirement for other compact states. Probably some of them won't require the SSN. Goodluck.

Advice for International applicants for post graduate programs
Not all schools require that you have the state's license. Some schools just ask for a license in the US. Your best bet is to go to the schools's website and see what their requirements are or email them. Good luck.

Single mom seeking advice
Hi, Thanks for the replies.I have since changed my mind about California. I have decided that Texas would fit our needs better but even then I promise not to relocate without a job offer. I plan to visit Texas early next year just to check it out and get a feel for the place. I know the economy is bad every where especially for new grads but we can only hope and pray and keep trying. I appreciate the sound advice.

New Grad With Two Jobs
Hey Caliotter, I know this is an old thread but I am hoping you will read it.Please I have a question. How many jobs were you working when you worked 108/120 hours and what were the schedules? Because of my current situation, I will need to work more than one job when I graduate so I am just trying to plan ahead. So I know what kind of jobs to apply for. I don't graduate until next year. So this is hoping thigs will be better. Thanks a lot

Applying to CCBC catonsville or essex?
Hi, I wanted to reply since no one else has. I am starting the second semester at Catonsville this fall. I just completed fundamentals. I am in the day program. My experience so far has been wonderful. The faculty( lecture, clinical and lab instructors) are simply wonderful. They really want you to succeed. I don't know anything about Essex apart from hearsay. When I applied last september my overall gpa was 3.46 and my pre-reqs gpa was either 3.1 or 3.2. You do not need a 4.0 gpa. I thought I heard the teas score for reading has been reduced. But when I applied I got 90 in reading and my total score was 77. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I only took the teas once, it was the only school I applied to and my first time of applying to a nursing program. Anyway, just wanted to share my personal experience. I think you have a very good chance of been admitted. Good luck.

New Grad Job Hunt
Hi, I am not sure how far you are willing to travel but I saw some job listings where they said new graduates are welcome to apply (these are not new grad internships). Check, Holy Cross, UMMC, St. Agnes, Northwest and I think Franklin Square. Goodluck

H1B VISA
Hi, Firstly to be eligible for H1-B visa you need a BSN. Secondly if you go to the USCIS website and do a search for H1-B visas for nurses you will find an article that provides a lot of information. I read it some days ago but I don't have the link, I found it while browsing. The gist of it is that BSN nurses with specialist training/certification may be eligible. I think the issue of experience is dealt with on a case by case basis but obviously the more experience you have the better your chances. Good luck.

Question about study groups...
Hi, I am not really a study group person and also my current situation(single mom,two young kids) makes it almost impossible. I really believe you can succeed in nursing school without joining a study group. I am doing okay so far....

Clep resources pleeez!
Hi, I used the Rea clep study guide to study for both exams. I did not use any other material I got a 71 in sociology out of a possible 80 and 59 in Human growth and development. I think you need extra study materials for the human growth. I would recommend the Rea clep study guides. You can get used copies on amazon. Good luck

Opinion needed-trads,non-trads and very non-trads
Hey Mi Vida Loca, I couldn't edit the post. So lets jut say trad is 18-29 and non-trad is 30-40. I am non-trad myself and the most annoying/talkative people in my class are non-trad. But like you rightly pointed out it's all ages. But the ones that stand out in my mind are non-trad.

Opinion needed-trads,non-trads and very non-trads
Hi all, This thread is just for fun and I got the idea from my other thread. Basically, I would like to know the ages of the most disruptive and annoying people in your class. My definition of trad is 18-30, non-trad 30-40 and very non-trad 40 and above. (This is just for the purpose of this thread). So maybe at the end of the day we can tally the votes and give an award to the most annoying and disruptive group. p.s this is supposed to be just for laughs and it would be nice if we can all be polite. Thank you.

Annoying and disruptive classmates (vent)
Hey guys, Thanks for all your replies. Just wanted to say I am no spring chicken myself being in my late thirties and all:D And please lets cut That Guy some slack, don't think he really meant any harm to us non-trads. I do feel much better after reading these posts and I am ready to face the remaining five weeks of school. Goodluck everyone.

Annoying and disruptive classmates (vent)
CBs Mommy, You miss the point. It's not about going to the instructor and telling tales. I guess your definition of excitement differs from mine. I am venting and believe me I am not the only one that shares this opinion about this person in my class. Like others have said there is one of this kind in every class,so I guess it is pretty normal. I am not planning to blow up at anyone. Finally, I am not asking to be liked or anything like that (this is in reference to your statement that you are sure somethings about me bug my classmate), but as people going into a profession, I think it is decent when people show some respect and consideration for their classmates and be courteous even when you are excited. My two cents.

Annoying and disruptive classmates (vent)
Hi, I just had to come here and vent because I am in danger of putting my foot wrong. It's just five weeks to the end of the semester and I don't want to jeopardise my progress. In my class, there is a student who is a LOUD MOUTH. She is forever asking questions, in class, skills lab, clinicals everywhere. The most annoying thing is that after asking questions she doesn't stay quiet long enough to hear the answers! Sometimes, the question she is asking is for "her personal knowledge" according to her. It's worse during the lab, because if she can stay quiet long enough, the instructor is going to talk about the next step she wants to ask about. Lately, we have been having the same instructor during lab, and she is always telling the students, hold on, we haven't goten there yet or something along those lines. And then you see this particular student, rolling her eyes, muttering and just been generally rude. Yesterday, was the final straw. The skills lab was so disruptive that I couldn't focus and I wasn't the only one. Non-stop questions, side conversations, one of her friend storming out of the class because the instructor told her to wait when she was asking a question, I could see my other classmates angry and frustrated as well because she just wouldn't shut up. This same character is not a youngster by any chance, she is in her thirties (no spring chicken), and she is rude, crass and absolutely horrendous.Uses swear word and loudly too. In clinicals, she is loud, you can hear her a mile away, she complains when she has to team up with another student, because she thinks the student is passive while she is the aggressive, know it all person. Just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with, she is of the opinion that people with a 2.5 GPA cannot be good nurses because her GPA is nearly 4.0, can you believe that? "Do you want someone with a 2.5 GPA to be your nurse" asked she. If a school is willing to admit people with 2.5 GPA how dare she make such a comment. She said this out loud yesterday in lab without giving a damn whether anybody there had a 2.5 GPA. It's been my misfortune to have this person in the same skills lab and clinical setting and I am just praying the next 5 weeks pass quickly. Next semester, I will resist every attempt to place me in her group because there is so much anyone can take. Anyway, does anyone undertsand what I am talking about? Please share. ps: I don't understand why the instructors/teachers haven't said anything to her?
