  1. Background Check Requesting Previous Personnel Files?

That sounds like a load of crap to me. They will do NCIC checks and possibly credit checks, but I don't think what you are saying even sounds legal, much less feasible.
  2. Question for Nursing Recruiters/Nurse Managers

I'm sure it's different for different managers but to me, the content is the most important thing. Also, I frown heavily on grammar and/or spelling errors. I mean, if you are trying to make a good impression, don't make simple mistakes. I also don...
  3. New Hire info PLZ Read!!

I think it depends upon how long you have already been waiting. Have you interviewed with anyone? If so, you can send them a "thank you" follow up letter. From a management standpoint, I don't see a problem with contacting the dept. supervisor, but d...
  4. When to make change in career ?

Definately......start looking into it now if that is what you want to do.
  5. Need Honest answer

Yes, we do respond to emergencies wherever the inmate is.
  6. Certifications?

I also have just applied from a job in occupational health. I have been a nurse for 18 years, but I'm nervous and very much want this position. Regarding certifications, from what I understand, you have to work a certain number of hours in the occu...
  7. Need Honest answer

You would do absolutely fine in corrections. All in all, it's about the "easiest" nursing job I can think of. I'm sure this depends upon what type of facility you work in, but it's certainly less physicially strenuous than med/surg in a hospital or...
  8. Professional boundraries in Correctional Nursing

I have been working in corrections (prison, not jail) for almost 8 years. The very best advice if you must go into corrections is definately being firm, fair and consistent. Treat the inmates/detainees/offenders (whatever they are called where you ...
  9. TX Dept. of Justice

    Great. Do you like it?
  10. TX Dept. of Justice

Does anyone here work for the TDOJ? I am considering taking a travel/prn job that involves multiple TDOJ facilities and I am curious about their operations.
  11. Can I work as a correctional Nurse?

You can still work in corrections. You definately cannot work in a prison that your family is incerated at, but anywhere else should be okay. When your employer asks if you know anybody who is incarcerated in the state, just tell them the truth.
  12. I'm considering putting my resume online ... bad idea?

It's not a bad idea if you want a job! You will definately get calls if there are jobs available in your area. Heck, even out of your area for that matter.
  13. Any Suggestions????

Can you not talk to your supervisor (the one that works for the same company you do)? There seems to definately be some illegal things going on here and you will be much better off leaving your job than losing your license.
  14. Better to quit or be fired

Quit and move on. They will have a reason for firing you and you still won't be able to get unemployment.
  15. Staff becoming institutionalized?

I have been working in corrections for 7 years. It is very difficult not to become "institutionalized". It only takes being scammed a time or two before you get skeptical. I have found that if you treat every inmate/patient the same, being very co...
  16. I am a corrections nurse currently working in a management position. I'm seriously tired of it and would like to either do travel nursing in corrections or get out of corrections entirely. The problem is, I've been doing this for 7 years, so it app...
  17. What is the deal with GEO Group?

This company will make you wish you never became a nurse, much less working in corrections.
  18. Abortion in nursing school rotations?

That is awful !! I didn't have to see anything like an abortion, but I did a rotation at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis and saw lots of heart breaking things, like crack babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, abandoned babies, etc. I couldn't work...
  19. How to ask for a pay raise???

Being a new graduate and starting in ICU, I don't think I would be asking for a raise already ! They have offered you a very good deal. If you can't live with that deal and that offer, maybe you should look elsewhere.
  20. New York State Mandated Vaccinations

updated guidance on pandemic preparedness in the workplace from the u.s. equal employment opportunity commission check out the above link. it will answer your question.
  21. TPN HELP!!! (please)

It's definately got to do with the filters required. Also, many years ago when I dealt with such things, it was also due to the rate of infusion being different. You may have 2 or 3 bags of TPN go in each day, but only one bottle of lipids. I agre...
  22. Low starting pay for new RN?

I don't think that is particularly low given your location. I live in North Mississippi and I think the starting pay is around $22.00/hr. Just guessing though really. Once you are more experienced, you will make more.
