Brain lesions and excessive sleepiness.
Okay I have to admit neurology is my weak point in nursing. I know my basics but I come here as favor asking advice regarding everyone's experience in a dx. A person has been found with brain lesions around the occipital area. The doctors are still working to figure out a final cause however this person constantly falls asleep even standing up and in mid conversation;pretty much like narcolepsy. In everyone's experience could the sleep problems be potentially related to the lesions?

Insulin adjustment
Thank you so much everyone. I don't mean for it to seem like I'm not tryi to take blame. When I spoke to the dr she educated me on not doing that as she said it was practicing medicine. I understood what she was saying and took it seriously. I plan to learn from it. I am just upset because I did in fact get term from my facility because they quoted it as "dispensing meds without a dr order" I have done some research into my states actual rules and regulations and I came across a rule that said withholding a med is allowed as long as it is documented why and that the dr was notified which I did in fact do both. I really liked my job and am just upset that they would do this.

Insulin adjustment
I actually read on several forums that it is practiced differently and at my prior job we adjusted the insulin accordingly due to carb control. I have been reading in my state board of nursing guidelines to see if there's any circumstance that it's acceptable.

Insulin adjustment
Hello all. I have a question. I was taught that I could hold coverage insulin or only give partial dose depending on how well my patient ate so this is what I did with a patient. The doctor then told me that I was not allowed to so that because it was practicing medicine. I have been doing some research and have found several sites that say I am in fact allowed to do that. My work is now trying to terminate me. I am an lpn in Ohio. Can anyone provide some insight into this matter? Thanks so much!

Increase abuse of Bath Salts
I work in jail and we have had countless people come in high on "bath salts" so in order to treat them I have been doing a lot of research on them. They are labeled as bath salts or plant food so the companies can get around the loopholes to sell them. They are actually made from a chemical..an amphetamine to be exact called mephedrone and they also contain traces of cantine or canthine..(i cannot remember how to spell it) Anyways they make an extreme high that can last from hours to days but with similar effects to crack and meth...the most common way to use is smoking them but they do snort and often times inject. Users also have an increased risk of suicidiality and should be monitored until the high is completely gone. there is alot more info on them..too much to type.

Staff becoming institutionalized?
I have been in corrections now for about 8 months. I work in a full service jail where we house all types of offenders from minimum to maximum and we hold around 650. I absolutely love my job as I get a taste of everything especially the mental health. my fellow nurses joke with me and call me the bleeding heart nurse because i listen to the inmates and try to help them out as best as I can if I deem it is an actual issue and not just a manipulation tactic. I notice that the other nurses that have been there for long periods of time seem to start to act just as bad as the offenders and sometimes say " well dont come to jail if you dont want to be treated this way"....is it just me or have we forgotten that we are the nurses and not security or the judges? Advice please.
