I definitely agree but I also want to add that sometimes it's not just the surgeons you think about being angry with you, it's also the anesthesiologists/CRNAs and scrub techs who you may have to anger as well. Scrub techs are technically working under your license so if a count is wrong, it's probably more of the circ RN's fault then the scrub tech for not enforcing policies and etc. Anesthesiologists/CRNAs are usually more understanding of our situations and all the policies and protocols we have to follow but it can still be hard at times to speak up. I just started in the OR so I don't have my "gonads of steel" yet but I'm slowly developing them. lol Proud to be an OR !!

Medsport, my $37-38/hr is for a RN not an LPN/LVN. I'm not sure what LVNs in CA are being paid. I worked a bit as a CNA about 3 or 4 years ago and got about $10 with no experience. I'm sure it's gone up so I think LVNs probably make like you said upper teens or at 20 with raises.

lol JoPACURN, if I know they're coming I might do the same. I just started working and haven't had a JC visit yet. The OR bell, I think one of my perioperative professor was telling me a nurse uses a gong to let people know it's "time-out." She told us she wanted to look for it and hide it but apparently that nurse hides it and locks it away somewhere. I can very well see it being annoying. JC visit is scary enough when people aren't following protocols etc but when people are doing things right, they shouldn't look for new things to blame. Anyways 1tulip I hope your daughter isn't having too big of a headache at work.

I'm sure you can take some legal actions but if you have concrete proof. My mind just went blank but there's a word for his actions (if it's really him) and what he's doing to your career reputation. The one where he's falsely accusing you and making you have a bad reputation that will affect your clients/employer. Anyways if you get concrete proof, I say talk with a lawyer or your nursing manager about this. He is being very unprofessional and very immature to attack you this way. Btw, I hope he's not also a nurse :angryfire

I took my exam recently and I'm pretty sure I got the last question wrong but I still passed. =] As the poster above stated, as long as the computer determines you have met the competency level of an RN I think the last one being missed won't always make it a fail.

losangeles213, it's normal to be scared about the surgery but don't worry yourself about the surgeon having to use the bathroom as well. Everyone involved in the case will be thinking of your safety and health. If you're anxious because you're unsure about something, make sure to ask questions to the nurse, anesthesiologist, surgeon, or anyone else. I hope you have a quick and safe recovery after your surgery!

Southern California OR $37-38/hr with benefits (vacation/sick PTO, health/life insurance, retirement, tuition loan payment, etc) I'm also a May graduate, got this job because I got to know the nurse manager while I was doing my internship in the same hospital. Currently, SoCal is supposedly easier to find jobs then NorCal but I believe it's just difficult to get a job in California right now. I have friends in Southern, Northern, and Central CA all having difficulty getting hired. PLUS, they're worried because soon there will be Dec graduates to compete with.

I took the Kaplan course, Learning Extensions (NCSBN), and used Prentice Hall Hogan's review book. First two for the questions and the third for review book. Hogan's review book is thick like any other but this one breaks it down to NCLEX categories and sub-cat. It helped to review specific topics and plus it highlights what is likely to be on the NCLEX or what's really important to know.

First off, keep up the hard work! You'll pass for sure! Second, I used Kaplan and Learning Extension (NCSBN) but I preferred learning ext when I was taking the quizzes. It gives you the rationale right after you click an answer then since you remember your train of thought you can review why you got the question right/wrong. For both, I used them for their questions not their review. I had two review books Saunders and Prentice Hall (Hogan's) but I primarily used Hogan's. It helped me refresh a lot of the nursing content I thought I knew.

I've asked that question myself but honestly there isn't really a time to give you. It's different for everyone because of their confidence, situation, and everything else. I'm a May graduate so I didn't have the holidays to worry about so I took my time. However, if you're confident with your knowledge, you should take it as soon as possible after graduation. If your not to confident or a worry-wart like me, you can review using a review book, learning Kaplan's Decision Tree, signing up for Learning Extensions (NCSBN), and then taking the exam. It honestly depends on you. One more thing, if you failed the first time but took it early, you'll be able to take it again the 2nd time sooner and still be in the job pool. I have a couple of friends who failed taking it later, passed the 2nd, but are having a harder time finding jobs than my other classmates (or they already have contacts for the Nov/Dec hiring time). Go at your pace and take nclex when you feel it's right for you. Best of luck to you!!

I just recently took my exam on Friday Oct. 2nd and was told by many to check the brn license verification in 3 business days for my name so I checked on Oct. 7th (and PASSED, I totally cried because I really thought I had failed). However, when I looked up my name, my license had been issued on Oct. 5th. That's about 1 business day and could have saved myself 2 whole days of agony but posting and issuing dates might not be the same. Most of my friends who passed and checked their name in 3 days had their names posted. For this week, I think the 3 day long weekend has pushed the results posting a bit back. Anyways if you passed, your name should be posted at the latest 3 or 4 business days after your exam date (don't count Saturday even though you can take tests). I'm pretty confident about this information but hey I don't work for the BRN =P If I did, I would just let you all know right after you finish the exam! It would save us all some white hairs and the agony of waiting!! Hope this helps and good luck to all!!
