  1. I 1st want to applaud you for being amazing:clphnds:. Being a mom is hard in itself let alone a single mom with your accomplishments. 50 is the new 25 =) It's always a great idea to save for retierment. And retire is when your tired, when you want to sit on your butt. Weekends- Holidays- CM are hard with kids ,... but great for your wallet if retirement is what your striving for.Right now it sounded like you answed your own question of bordem.:anbd:. Good luck in your decision I know kids are #1 always. I'll pray for you.
  2. I was told I was to have a group interview, but when I arrived it was a rotating interview. It was great still 1:1 action but more people to bat for you if you didn't click with someone on the panel. Also my job dose group interviews with 3 bosses and 10-15 canidates. It is a trip to see people walk in & out. When i asked my boss about it she said with the economy they can be really selective and time efficient. They like those who dresses appropirate and personal (of course look @ our professions). I would clarify if you could,.... or wing it and be GREAT! Stand out in a good way!!!Good luck.
  3. With CC, you are called in for either caregiver support (due to sx out of control and cg are exhausted) or sx managment. Terminal agitation, pain out of control ect. It is best if you are IV certified as Hospice dose use CADD pumps SQ. Majority of the time meds are rectal, po/sl, topical. Assessments are done hourly charting VS, bed baths if pt febrile.. any nursing measures that will provide comfort for the pt.But always make sure your DR is available for any order changes (sometimes in the home you do what you gotta do ) it is not in the LVN scope to perscribes/alter meds without MD. I like it, you really do use your nursing skills both with the patient and helping with the family.
  4. I have never heard of an offere lettr myself. I agree though, to give notice to your current employer asking for something in writing detailing the job, offer and start date should not be that difficult for the new employer to mingle up. It is 2009 isn't it?
  5. I have had alot of luck with Nurse recruiters emailing me back. Whether it is just to say there are no positions or yes apply online they genuienly want to help. I've since got 2 interviews, don't know if it's becuse they remembered my interest or liked my resume. Anywho, at this point the more proactive we are the bettter I think. : )Good luck
  6. I am in Califoinia and was feeling the same exact thing yesterday as far as career choices. My husband reminded me not to let the economy detour us from our calling to help people. I know what it's like to be in a job that isn't really what you went to school for.. we think of "the acute setting". The bottom line is were helping people,,,, isn't that why we became nurses? The dilema of this new job offer is difficult, but just like you wayed your cons did you weigh your pros?... You can network to other departments...doctors ect and might find something on the road. Good luck my prayers are with you.
  7. They say taking the NCLEX is the hardest thing to do but I think waiting is. You have made it this far on a long journey of patience and anxiety, congrats the journey is soooo worth it. : )
  8. I went, like everyone stated it was short and sweet. Alot of people for no immediate job opportunities. They provided good info for job hunting stratedy and you got to meet dept managers briefly. Hoag is far for me but any new grad info session you can attend, you learn a little more.
  9. I was an LVN for 7years before getting my RN. It helped me tremendously both in the work field and school. If you are able to go straight for RN I would recommend it, becuse there are alot of RN jobs with flexibility like HH or Hospice, charge at LTC. But if LVN 1st gives you the inital flexibility you are looking for go for it, it got me a house a great job and my RN in the long run : )
  10. I agree with thevwgirl. I've done my clinicals at both Lancaster and Antelope. Antelope is more new grad friendly these days. Lancaster has been holding alot of new hires becuse the new hospital will not be ready until sometime 2010. Once that opens I believe the flood gates will open for jobs. staff is very helpful at Lancaster, I enjoyed it.
  11. 213jingle2bells, im not quite sure about LA area, the OC has NorthOrange county ROP. I studied LVN there it was GREAT, both financially and academically. High board pass rate. I am now an RN, any would highly recommend ROP if the OC has that type of program maybe LA dose. With the economy I would recommend waiting for big financial expenses if you plan to persue you RN. Good luck,
  12. Markpdavid, not only apply to new grad posting,,,,because they are rare in a few and probably have hundreds of applicants. Try Clinical Nurse 1, or postings fro RN but in comments state will train new grads.Good Luck : )
  13. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has information on what dept 6100 is at Loma Linda Medical Center, CA. I spoke with the nurse recruiter who said my application had been forwarded to the DM. How long is the call back wait? Do new grads have a chance? I would love to work at Loma Linda. I've had family members there for open hearts and GI surgery's the staff all seemed to be really happy with their jobs. Any advice to help with "the pursit of happiness"
  14. After job hunting with minimal responses.. I looked to myself. I managed to make what I think was a "could of looked better on paper" resume. So, off to resume builders and redo advice. I redid my resume and, it is me on paper soooo much better... it's the bomb : ) ! Dose anyone know?? if after you update your resume say for example at Arrowhead Regional, is there a way to have the nurse recruiter resend the updated... better resume out to depts again.?? I have interviewed for one dept and I thought it was ok ... but maybe it could of gone a heck of alot better if my resume stood out.... and I wasn't so nervous. :hdvwl:, still waiting an answer. Is no word better than a flat NO...?? any advice guys??
  15. abbaking, thanks! I was wondering what the different units ment. So do you have to be chemo certified to be on 9200? I graduated in June RN been working in pallative care ( was an LVN b4) , while waiting for hospital positions. Would be soo interested in 9200 or 8300. : )
