  1. haha. My family noticed it when I first started working. At work you get a firm and strict mode and it translates to relationships at home. But you just have to be aware and separate the two.
  2. In correctional nursing you rely on more of the objective data than subjective data. To differentiate real from fake always assess efficiently. General apperance, vital signs, incontinence, pupils, foaming, sounds, movement, sensation, orientation, etc. At first it'll be hard but it get's easier to spot the real and fake ones. Never get in the mentality that everyone is faking or don't let custody or even other health care influence your assessment if they say he/she is just faking.
  3. Yes and no. I work as a registry RN at a State prison in CA and the LVN's finish their pill lines and wait to go home. The RN's finish their clinic line and wait to go home. The TTA (Triage Treatment Area) and CTC (Correctional Treatment Center) RN's wait for relief usually 30 min. However a state employee maybe ordered for another shift when needed.
  4. I am on my 3rd day of agency RN correctional facility orientation have been told agency nurses more times than not get 40hrs/wk and several opportunities for overtime for CNAs/LVNs/RNs. Its a great opportunity and giving up other jobs is a risk with the possibility of gaining a great permanent job or at least great experience. I jumped at the chance. I will update with my experience after a couple of months of working at prison here in Southern California.
  5. Yes, I applied for this facility's RN position. Just waiting for a reply but it's been about a month. Thanks though.
  6. Thank you for your advice however i have tried that for a couple of months now and still no result. Does anyone know of a skilled nursing facility, long term care center, etc. that is willing to hire a New Grad RN?
  7. Hello, I am a New Graduate Registered Nurse. I live in San Diego, CA. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines and returned to the States. I acquired my California Registered Nursing License in August and have been on the job hunt ever since. I have been met with the repetitive requirement of having 1 yr of RN experience. I have applied to for every New Grad RN program known to man and have not been selected. I would like to ask for any advice on where to apply and how to build experience. Thanks.
