  1. Congratulations! I am in a DNP at University of South Alabama. My specialty area is Acute Care Pediatric. I'm not sure about Creighton's program, but some of the hours I will be completing are spent on my final project. Good Luck to you as well!!!:)
  2. Never heard of the random drug tests either
  3. I completely agree with mochamonster! I graduated from the most recent accelerated class of 2010 :) CONGRATS to all of you that have been accepted. This will definitely be a life changing experience. I would like to add that even though the program is difficult you can have a social life. You just have to prioritize. I had classmates that went out every weekend. I was the occasional type, and most of my class graduated with honors or high honors. You will quickly find that it wont pay to be competitive. Working with your fellow classmates will be very beneficial throughout the program. As far as preceptorship is concerned.....it is roughly 5 weeks when you will be paired with a nurse at a hospital. You will complete approx 200 hours with that nurse. During that time you really wont have to go to campus except for once a week. I absolutely loved the program, and would recommend it to any pre-nursing student. I went straight into a DNP program to become a nurse practitioner, and Methodist has definitely prepared me for that. Hope that helps
  4. CONGRATS FuturecruzanRN That is very exciting! Every semester will be different. You will probably be in classes everyday for most of the day 8-5pm, some days wont be as long. It's like a full-time job, but you will make it. The last semester (Spring) is basically a cake walk, and you'll barely have to come to campus. Also, every 8 weeks you will switch courses. It avgs about 18-21 credit hours a semester, but it is doable. Let me know if you have any other q's
  5. DWilkins22, I have heard both positive and negative statements about this facility. I was interviewed for a critical care position, so I am not concerned about high nurse to patient ratios. I do know that the unit manager that interviewed me is new to the hosp. He is implementing a lot of changes, and made that very clear. Thanks for your insight
  6. GoodstudentnowRN when did you apply? And did you have an interview? I do not reside in Tallahassee, so I am hoping I hear something soon
  7. I was wondering if you found out any information about crmc. I applied for the new grad program that begins in a month or so. Did you apply as well? If so, what unit are you interested in?
  8. Kaplan, Exam Cram and LaCharity! Kaplan helps with test-taking strategies, and LaCharity is amazing for prioritization and delegation type questions. Exam Cram was full of questions (I only did half). I was also given the Saunders and Lippincott's comprehensive review books; took one glance at them and decided not to use them. There was way too much information in those books. I passed on my first attempt. Regardless of what you decide to use stick to 2-3 books max. Information can vary from source to source.
  9. Ira1027-I think the only people that know they have been accepted are those that applied to the DNP program. It is to my understanding that the MSN program (for the fall) has not sent out acceptance letters yet
  10. Hello love_np, there are several of us entering the program in the fall that communicate through this site. Did you get your official acceptance letter yet?
  11. Whatever you have done in the past may not be right for you. Find out why you are failing. For example, do you not understand the material, are you a bad test taker, is it hard for you to strategize? After answering that question you will know what you need to do. There are different ways individuals study to conquer the exam, but study habits are never universal. Hope that helps :)
  12. I'm confused, did she fail or she feels like she failed? I'm assuming you mean think that she failed. Most (not all) people feel like they failed after they take the exam. My bf just took the exam, and swore he failed at 75 questions (only to find out he passed). He just knew he didn't answer most of the questions wrong. On another note I passed with over 100 questions, and I took the exam April of this year. So there is hope
  13. I think your study plan is very realistic. I think the key to creating a study plan is to do what is best for you. For instance, reviewing content would have been an overload for me so I just did questions and answers. I did a total of 1200 q's over a span of 2 weeks (paying close attention to rationales). The night before I reviewed infection prevention. Remember to stay calm, and you will be fine :) Good Luck!
  14. Hola, I did get the email. He did state that some people would not be accepted; however, 80+ more were accepted. That means chances are better. As for me I completed a Bachelor's in Biology (with the lpn program simultaneously my last yr). Never worked as an lpn, because I started an accelerated bsn program 6 months later. I graduated Magna cum laude; however lack of experience is not working in my favor. Just graduated last month, and take boards 2mrw. What about you? Did you apply for the bsn-dnp or msn-dnp option?
  15. University of Alabama at Birmingham Univ of Southern Indiana and Indiana State Univ (both offer in-state tuition for the online msn programs) Hope that helps =)
  16. I can't speak from my own personal experience, as I have yet to take boards. Take it tomorrow, yikes! According to Ati I have a 97% chance of passing; however, I am not basing my chances of passing on this. At my school everyone had to pass with a 90% pass rate to get the alloted points, but that definitely does not mean everyone will pass. In fact the ati representative told us that he was contacted by 2 students that did not pass that had scored 95 and 98% (both failed), because they did not study and relied on their predictor scores
  17. Hello, I learned the mnemonic in nursing school as well. The mnemonic is supposed to help you remember the options, not the steps in order. The steps are as follows: give oxygen first (this maximizes the effect of any medication given after), then aspirin (in any situation it is usually readily available), if you don't have aspirin or nitro is available give nitro (as you described), morphine is given last and only if pain is not relieved by nitro. Hope that helps :) Remeber we want to prevent ischemia, so oxygen is always first!
  18. This might be late, but I am currently in one of the accelerated programs listed on your list, Nebraska Methodist College. For those of you willing to re-locate I would definitely recommend this program. It's 15 months, and I graduate in 3 weeks. The minimum gpa to apply is 2.75 and an interview is required. Most people got accepted. I received my acceptance letter a couple weeks after my interview. They are expanding their program (my class started with 42). Retention is pretty high as well, and if needed you can easily transition into the traditional program. If you have any questions let me know.
  19. I applied for fall admission, but to the BSN to DNP ACNP/FNP dual program. Did anyone else apply to this program? The tuition rate is also amazing. I think there are only 2 other graduate nursing programs with rates this low.
  20. kenyohunt1, Hello I am not in USA's DNP program but I have applied. Did you apply for Fall of 2010? If so what specialty? It would be nice to know someone else that might potentially go through the same program.
  21. I was also told that my school has been paid, yet has not. My program analyst continues to beat around the bush (when I can get in contact with him). My school just sent my loans from fall back this semester (last week), and did the same for the spring. You should see if your school is still able to do this. It is a bit of a hassle. As far as the W2 form, I was told they would be sent out by Feb 1st. If not I would get your username and passcode to their site (i don't remember the name sorry), but it shows your W2 and tuition payment info. I would contact your program analyst to get your log in info. Hope that helps
  22. The University of Arizona (Tucson) and the University of South Alabama in Mobile
  23. No payment as of yet, but an email was sent out saying we "the new NSP awardees" would receive the stipend payment on or around the 10th. I will keep you posted if I receive something else before then
  24. Vikings203, It is, to my understanding, that the stipend payments are being processed sometime this week. That is what Maggie Carrera told me. My program analyst only spoke about tuition and fees to be paid to the school. Hopefully we hear something soon
  25. I spoke to my program analyst last week. He was very informative. He told me to get an invoice sent to him of my expenses (tuition and fees). He also gave me my support persons contact information. He did say that he has not been given the ok to send any requests for payment as of yet (last week). The program analysts are notorious for not responding to emails, so I would suggest calling them early in the morning to get questions answered.
