I just finished my BSN from Kaplan...LOVED IT!!! I am also looking into getting my masters. MSN/MBA is with UOP but Kaplan only has MSN. Instructors are helpful at Kaplan, everything was a breeze .

This thread has been so helpful to me. Thank you all so much for all your input. This helped me realize how naive I am to what it takes to get a PhD. I am currently looking into getting an MSN, (as a result of llg's advice) before I jump into the PhD route.

Reading this thread has been inspiring. I'm also contemplating going to Grad school, I have a 20 month and a 2 month old. I want to get this school out of the way while they are still young. I'm also having some guilty feelings when I have to study which takes out time for my kids, but I try to do my homework during lunch time at work. I'm glad that there are other mothers feeling the same way that I am and it is encouraging to read the comments from all of you.

At every stage, there'll always be someone "better" and smarter than you if you never decide that you are already happy with yourself no matter what anyone says, at any stage. If you're a millionaire-there are billionaires...you're a nurse- there are doctors...you're a model- there are SUPER models....it never ends, when will you be good enough? Who will you allow to decide that, them or you?

It is expensive, however, you have to weigh the pros and cons, and also look at all the possible pathways that can work for you. I paid a lot of money from ADN to BSN going to a private school (onilne) because I knew that if I had done it in a campus that I had to physically attend, I would never get my BSN. While I was getting my BSN, I started with a 6 month old boy, had another baby, and worked full-time. I graduated as summa cum laude and I did it in 12 mos. For me, the money I paid was worth it! I understand not wanting to wait, I'm the type of person that has to get things done..right now!

Just remember that bookkeeping to CNA is a big difference, as far as physical workload and the main goal is to PASS and focus on your studies. As long as it does not interfere with your studies, its a good idea. I had no medical experience whatsoever before I became and RN and I did just fine. I would just stick to bookkeeping and focus on school.

I used to be so scared before clinical days that I couldn't sleep. I felt like my instructor only had her eyes on me! Just take it one day at a time!

I took the NCLEX 3 years ago, used Kaplan and passed. I didn't even look at how many questions I was on, since I didn't want that anxiety to come in regarding how many questions I was doing (good trick). I took it in about 30 mins. I read the Kaplan review book, it took me so long to get through it, I already forgot what I read. The most helpful were the question bank, I actually saw about 2 similar questions they had on the actual NCLEX. At Kaplan my scores after doing the sample questions were in the 50% and I think they recommended to be around 75% ??? Don't read books with too much pathophysiology stuff....NCLEX won't ask like that...spend more time on the Kaplan question bank..it will be helpful. Lastly, don't keep postponing the date of your test even if you still don't feel ready. GOod luck and RELAX, if you fail, it won't be the end of the world!

Right now I'm in the beginning stages of my journey. At first I wanted to get my DNP but then after some research, I realized it is more clinically based and I am more interested in research. I have been looking at schools and so far the only way that I can accomplish the goal of obtaining the degree is if I did online schools. I just graduated at Kaplan University for my BSN and this is online which was very convenient for me. Regarding the area of research that I want to do...there is not one area that sticks out to me...but if I had to pick one it would be mental health. Thank you for mentioning that 100% online schools are not that prestigious, gives me something to think about. I've been looking at University of Arizona, I would have to pay out of state, but it is online. I haven't even looked at the aspect of faculty matching my area of interest, thanks for the advice. Regarding the career path, to be quite honest, I don't know all the directions that a PhD can get me and this is where I need help. I know that I can teach, conduct research, but what other kind of jobs will I be able to get? All PhD holders: how hard is it to get a job? What's the availability? What kind of jobs are out there for PhD holders, salary, etc? Also, what's the typical day for a nurse researcher? I will be investing a huge amount of family time and money, I want to make sure that I have a clear idea of what's waiting in the end. All answers are appreciated.

I finally decided to get my PhD and have been looking into online schools since I have 2 kids under the age of 2 and working full-time. Any advice?
