  1. PLAY VS STRESS WORK VS PLAY JOHN WAYNE VS PEE WEE HERMAN FIREFLY VS UFO GAS VS ELECTRIC :angryfire VS :rotfl: VACATION VS WORK GOOD JOB EVERYONE, THIS IS JUST PLAIN RELAXING........
  2. Had a young man who started his first day in orientation. First thing on the to do list was view some videos...he came to me and said I can not do this job. VERY DISTRESSED. We discussed his fears and embarrsssment. He was very honest and respectful.........long story short...he made a very wonderful nurse aide whom the patients just loved. The clinical side is very important, but its also the compassion and concern for others. Takes both to be a good nurse. (good gpa and brain goes along ways too GOOD LUCK TO YOU
  3. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS OMG........CAN NOT BE REAL AND IT WASNT. THIS HAS BEEN FUN READING. WE CAN ALL USE SOME FUN :rotfl: MEN (MARS) VS WOMEN (VENUS) DOGS VS CATS MARTHA S. VS ANNA NICHOLE TEXAS VS OKLA OSU VS OU
  4. I Thought Being Upfront With The Obn And Following Through With The Peer Assistance Program Was Respected By The Obn. So Questions???? The Office Of Inspector General Exclusion List And Not Being Able To Work For A Medicaid Or Medicare Facilty..where Does This List Come From And Does It Include The Whole Usa...was That Caused By Changing The Script??? Is That A Felony? Sorry, I Am Just Trying To Understand This. And I Guess I Am More Uninformed Than I Ever Gave Thought To. So, Do You Have A Valid Okla License??? Could You Move To Another State, Is This An Option Or Would This Exclusion List Follow You?? It Is My Understanding That Even A Physician Who Losses Their License Can Work For A Place Like The Doc. The Only Reason I Understood This I Worked With A Very Good Physician Once, Who Lost His License And Was Told He Was Working For The Doc In The Same State He Lost His License In. Now That Is What I Understood. Dont Give Up 'sleepless In Norman'....if You Are Clean And Mean To Stay That Way, There Has To Be A Way Through This. Taking A Danger From The Public Is One Thing But Someone Who Has Worked Hard To Clean Up,this Doesnt Sound Right To Me.
  5. MONEY WAS GOOD, STAFFING :uhoh21: WAS SCARY.......I FEARED FOR MY LICENSE.
  6. TRYING NOT TO SOUND JADED...BUT YOU ARE 19....OH MY, WHAT YOU HAVE TO LEARN. THE ONE AND ONLY TIME I TOOK A SIGN ON BONUS I DID NOT FINISH MY YEAR. AT THE END OF THE 6 MONTHS I WAS OUT OF THERE, AS THE REASON FOR THE SIGN ON BONUS BECAME VERY CLEAR, VERY SOON! IT WAS DANGEROUS FOR PATIENTS AND STAFF ALIKE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU SARAH.......HOPE FOR YOUR SAKE IT TURNS OUT LIKE "THE RECRUITERS" HAVE PICTURED IT....AS FAR AS CANADIAN NURSES BEING BETTER TRAINED......??WHO KNOWS....I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TOLD AND WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TO BE TRUE CAN BE TWO DIFFERENT PICTURES

I Believe That Drug Testing Has Become Routine With The Impact Of Litigation These Days. It Protects Those Of Us That Are Working, Not Just The Facility.
  8. I VOTED NO, ALSO. I HAVE WORKED WITH SOME VERY GOOD NURSES FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR THEIR HELP.... BUT TALAXANDRA HAS A VERY GOOD POINT. THE DISSERVICE IS TWO FOLD. I KNOW SEVERAL VERY DEDICATED CNA'S AND LPNS WHO WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL. MOST HAVE CHILDREN AND THE DRIVE TO CLINICALS (70 MILES ONE WAY) IN OUR MID WEST TOWN IS SIGNIFICANT. THE ANSWER IS POLITICAL. HOW DOES ONE FIX THIS MESS?? :angryfire
  9. I Have Two That Haunts Me To This Day. #1. It Was 1980 And I Was Working In Icu. Brand New Nurse (no Excuse). Did Pray In The Bathroom Prior To Going On My Shift For The Lord To Watch Over My Patients.......which Turned Out To Be A Very Good Idea. The Old Iv Pumps Could Accomodate Both A Mini-drip Tubing System And A Macro-drip Tubing System. This Little Gentlemen Had Recurrent V-tach And Was On A Lidocaine Drip. When I Rehung The Bag I Spiked It With A Macro Tubeing...not A Mini Drip Tubeing...i Was Off The Next 2 Days. Came Back And Found Out By My Charge Nurse That It Took Almost 2 Shifts To Realize What Had Happened. He Slept Well, Did Not Have Any Ill Effects Except Did Have Speech That Was Slurred. I Was Devastated......i Was Seriously Quitting. My Charge Nurse Set Me Down, And While She Was Stern, She Was Also Kind And Talked To Me. I Think About This Mistake And Her Often. Will Never Forget It. #2. 11-7 Lpn Gave Me Report And Reported A B/p That Was Fine, 146/76 For A Little Gentleman. I Wrote The B/p She Quoted Me On My Report Sheet. I Gave His Am B/p Medication Without Taking The B/p Myself. In A Bit I Came Back, Going To Get Him Ready For Breakfast And He Was Not Alert. I Immediately Did V/s And Assessed Him. Went Back To The Mar And There In The Chart A Much Lower B/p Had Been Charted By The Nite Nurse. Like 80's/40's. It Was A Nightmare Of A Day. He Ended Up Fine, I Wasn't. While I Was Angry With The Lpn, I Also Recognized My Error. Never Give A B/p Med On Someone Elses Word. I Check It Myself And Give It Myself. While Both Errors Did Turn Out With The Patient Having no lasting effects. I Will Never Forget. I STILL PRAY IN THE BATHROOM BY THE WAY........
  10. It is my belief that a higher power is what ever "title" one chooses to call their Creator. He comes in many forms, in many hearts. Structured religion is what causes WARS........every structured religion believes theirselves to be "RIGHT" & the "CHOSEN". As a nurse I find it personally impossible to not believe that there is a Lord in the Heavens. And I feel it is my responsiblity to respect whatever beliefs the human being next to me holds. Truth, Goodness, Kindness, Caring about what is happening to one another--no matter what they believe, no matter what their life style is.... that is the test. The living, day to day test we all need to pursue. Call it whatever one wants to........It is a Great Sprit no matter what the name. That is who the peace and spiritual joy unfolds from. Structured religions and the TOTAL belief that one is right and one is wrong.....does not leave some of us with anything important...I don't have to dominate anyone to love, and live and rejoyce in my Creator. The human next to me does not have to think as i do to be as right as I am......they just have to think and do... ..my 2 cents.
  11. Yes You Can, Because I Did. I Would Never Have Made It In A Bsn Program Tho. Took Me 2 1/2 Years To Complete A 2 Year Adn Program. My Children Were 2,4, 5 & 6. Was It Hard? Very! But It Has Been Worth It. I Graduated When I Was 30. I Have Been In Nursing Now For 24 Years. All The Boys Now Tell Me They Are Glad I Raised Them With The Prinicple That Hard Work Pays Off. It Is Easier When They Are Small, I Believe, Before School Programs Become So Important To Them. I Confess I Had An Exceptional Couple Who Ran The Day Care. This Did Make A Big Difference. And I Worked On Friday And Saturday Nites, 11-7 Every Week. I Just Took One Day At A Time. Kept Looking Forward And Not Giving Up. I Can Say Without The Rn Income I Don't Know How I Could Have Managed As They Grew Up...it Was Still Very Much A Financial Struggle. Good Luck To You!

WHEN I STARTED THIS THREAD I WAS IN A FLARE. I CAN NOT BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW ALONE I FELT, THE STRUGGLE AND FATIGUE.... I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU RESPONDING. IT DOES HELP TO KNOW THERE ARE OTHER WORKING NURSES WHO ARE SUCCESSFULLY HOLDING DOWN THEIR JOBS WHILE FIGHTING THIS DISEASE. I KNOW THERE WILL BE A DAY THAT I WILL HAVE TO MAKE CHANGES, BUT TODAY I AM DOING WHAT I WANT TO DO. AND I THANK GOD FOR THAT. THANKS FELLOW LUPIES....LOL....I ALWAYS KNEW I WAS LOOPY..........JUST WAS SPELLING IT WRONG. :rotfl:

Oh, And The Legal Nursing Is Not For A Plaintiffs Attorney, It Is Defending Nurses. I Am Able To Be Completely Honest In My Opinions. There Are Mistakes That Are Made, We All Know That. I Dont Want To Be A Part Of Any Nurse Being Sued, Just My Stand On It. And I Am Still Trying to Hold Down A Full Time Nursing Job, for now anyhow.
  14. GEO replied to GEO's topic in General Nursing
I Try To Encourage Anyone Who Is Interested In Nursing To Pursue This Field. It Is Such A Wonderful Career. I Can Say This After 24 Years. Even With Her Diagnosis She Needs To Continue If This Is Where Her Heart Is. However, She Does Need To Look At Her Options. It Could Be A Tough Road, But It Is A Road That Is Going To Be A Trial No Matter What Profession She Chooses With This Disease. I Feel Very Fortunate To Have Had So Many Good Years Of Health And Working. And When I Feel Good, It Is Still What I Want To Do On A Daily Basis. She May Also. If She Wants To Be A Nurse For The Right Reasons Then She Should Go For It.
