Is Your Hospital Doing Something Similar?
Small steps! I think this is a fabulous idea! Hopefully, the other bad food will become phased out in time. I'm a RD (going to school for my RN) and work w/ dialysis pts. I hear SO MANY times, "well, I was served ice cream (coke, OJ, etc) in the hospital, so I thought it was ok for me to eat." This is a pet peeve of mine, b/c we should always be encouraging healthy foods (that taste good ) especially in the hospital and in schools. I also agree this is just a small step to a large problem, but I do believe small steps will eventually get us somewhere.

We moved here from Chicago a few years ago! I was in shock that I could afford a home (small, but still) in the city!

Lone Star Spring 2011
I just got my mail and there was actually something from Lonestar. ha! But, it was a check from a class I dropped. I applied to KW, so wasn't expecting anything but my heart kicked in when I saw the return address. The best part is I forgot I was expecting a reimbursement, so it feels like free money!

12 hour shifts vs. 8 hour shifts
violet, this is a constant issue i think about! i am considering starting RN school in jan., but wondering if i have the grass is always greener cliche going on! i have a 5 day a week job that is quite flexible in the healthcare field already. i have a 20 1/2 month old and want number 2 in the near future. i feel like i get a decent amount of time w/ my girl and enjoy that i don't work weekends/holidays. i can take off whenever i want b/c i'm not a "critical" employee. however, when i get home, i get the let's get dinner ready, bathtime, bedtime routine (which i love) but i don't get the fun morning playtime, lets meet someone for a playdate time. my weekends are relaxed, but i also feel like i'm running to the grocery store, getting menus planned, etc and not enough playtime. i worry about starting a new career as a RN w/ hopefully a new baby, working 12 hours in a job that is way more stressful then i have now and being exhausted. but, i do love the idea of having 4 days/nights off. when i work 4 days a week, i feel like that extra day is so wonderful. so, the 4 days off would be even better! i wonder about when kids are in school. how are the 12 hour shifts? typically you have to work a weekend every now and then, so you really only get 1 day w/ your family. you might miss dinner 3 nights a week...with 5 8's you can have dinner w/ family every night, etc. i don't know...i guess there is always pros and cons to everything!!

On a conference call and then I'm going to start :) fun fun!!!

Lone Star Spring 2011
I didn't realize that KW doesn't offer clinicals until the 2nd semester. That is surprising...I don't recall hearing that. I thought we did the RNSG 1172 Preparation for Basic Care in the minimester before the spring semester so we would be ready to go for clinicals in the first semester??

Lone Star Spring 2011
Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while...been busy with work, pharmacology, and family! I'm glad everyone has done so well with their scores. I'm another mom here! My daughter is 20 months old. I have no idea how I am going to deal with going to school, working FT, and taking care of her! My husband stays at home, so I do have help, but I'm sooooo not looking forward to missing out even more then I do now. But, I think it is time I move on with my career as I have been a dietitian for 13 years and am just getting soooo bored with it. I realize that I still have a long time in my working career and probably am due for a change. I really hope to work w/ mom/baby/L&D or NICU after school. Hope everyone is having a good week.

I only want to be a PP or L&D nurse.....
Thanks again everyone. Still undecided on what I will do as I still have a couple of months to decide. I'm still doing everything I need to do as if I was going to start nursing school in January. I am in Pharmacology, have to do CPR, and a couple other odds and ends. I really appreciate everyones input. :) robin1717-good luck finding a L&D position. I hope it works out soon for you! Looks like you have great experience already. LoveANurse09-good luck on getting into the nurse midwife program. Congrats on your baby girl. I can't do a BSN right now, b/c I would have to quit my job for all the programs in my area. I can't do that, b/c my husband is the stay at home parent and I carry the insurance! Plus, my work will pay for a majority of my schooling. I have my BS in Dietetics already and am hoping that helps in the job search a bit! dawn.b-wow, congrats!!!! Glad to hear you have enjoyed the entire experience. Good luck finishing in December. MamaRose-Glad to hear I'm not alone :) I would like to know what you end up doing!!! It is such a hard decision for me as a Mom. I feel like I'm going to miss out on so much, but at the same time I feel like in the long run this is also benefiting her and the family. I don't know!!! Such a tough decision for me. AllThingsPink-I love your positivity and eager attitude! Good luck to you and congrats on already being in nursing school!

Lone Star Spring 2011
I know about anxiety! I am crossing my fingers as I type this (that is tricky by the way), but the assistant at KW told me the the lowest score last year was 11.4 (just got this confirmed by her again). And they are accepting 60 students in the Spring.....soooo, I really think we are ok. Just trying to be positive while feeling anxious, ha!

I'm taking Pharm and Lifespan (they didn't transfer my class from my undergrad degree ) I do need to take Texas Govt if I ever decide to do the RN-BSN. We didn't have to take that in FL! What is the class number for that at Arlington? I took a regular govt, but not TX.
