Career change?
Hello, i joke of getting a job at Walmart when i having a bad night, but don't really mean it, just venting but also have given serious thought to a career change at times but haven't done anything about it. I am in my early fifties and it is a little late for me. There are low stress nursing jobs though, such as private duty or maybe a desk job such as a mds coordinator. I have gone to the night shift (11-7) and most of the time it is not too bad. Another option is a small ALF. I worked at one of those once with a census of 18 and it was light compared to a nursing home. Any way, good luck in what ever you choose,

LPN salary questions
In Florida ,pay ranges from 15-27 dollars an hr, and i'm sure , even more than that in certain situations. I am getting the 27 from a coworker who was just offered that recently. It was in a nursing rehab center. As far as negotiation of pay, to me it depends on your experience and what you have to offer the facility . I usually ask about pay toward the end of an interview if it isn't disclosed. If your new, you don't have any bargaining power and just finding someplace that will hire you may be difficult.

How do you even start your LVN career?
I used the internet in my job search when i started. Indeed.com is a pretty good site if it available in your area. I occasionally see "new grads welcome" in job postings where i live. Also check out state or county jobs, such as prisons, community health departments, VA facilities. In Florida , I am sure that Dept of Veterans Affairs hires new grads because they hired me and many others as i have been there several years now .As far as your resume, put the truth ,they know your new. I am not clear as to whether you have your license yet ,but if you don't and time permits , get a CNA ( NURSE ASSISTANT) license and do that first. The experience will be very helpful. As far as the hiring process, unless your a talented actress, just be yourself , state that you want to learn. Be willing to work night shift. It is the best shift to start on unless the employer has a good support system for day shift, which most don't, you know the saying "they throw you to the wolves" , and trust me ,some of those wolves are other nurses.Where i work they actually have a good support system for new nurses , and it is possible to start on day shift , because i actually did, but now work nights. Good luck !

Was reprimanded and told to resign. Advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
I have also been told I should resign from a nursing rehab and like you,I resigned. In my case I just didn't fit into the click , and also I probably didn't have enough experience. It was a 7-3 position , and very demanding. For me ,when they let me know I wasn't wanted, I no longer wanted to be there.I was very depressed after this happened also, and even considered getting out of nursing , but persevered and went back to a previous employer (less pay) but I am now happy and feel like i fit in. My advice to you if you do not choose legal action is to look for another nursing job , and don't give up! Not all places are the same.

FT night shifters what is schedule?
I have been full time nights for several years. I usually stay up until around 12-2pm and then sleep until about 9pm. That works for me. I try to stay on this schedule on my days off if possible to maintain the sleep pattern. One problem is when i stay up all night on my days off there isn't a whole lot to do, but i am getting to know the night shift crew at the local Walmart, thats about the only thing open where I live!

I can totally relate to your situation. I hope it gets better after Christmas or i'll have to go hunting for a cna job or actually any job and i have had my lpn license since Oct. I also feel like i am losing everything i learned in school. The last nursing clinicals i did were in August of this year !!

How am I supposed to get experience if no one will hire me?
I can relate to your situation also. I live in the Tampa bay area and just got my lpn license in October , 2009 and am running into the same problem you are . Almost all the lpn job postings want 1-2yrs experience . I have had 2 offers , one night shift w/very little orientation ,(the DON said 3-4 days to learn the paperwork and then that she would start me the following weekend 7p-7a, and they didn't have a night unit manager , so i got scared out of that plus i hate night shift anyway .I have been told it is better to start on days so you can learn and also have more support. The other job offering was a temp job administering H1N1 vacinations at area schools for $14 an hr flat rate with no benefits .( i make 13.50 as an cna ), so i turned it down. I don't know what to do , but the bank account is gettin low and i am actually contemplating looking for cna work or almost anything just to make ends meet.Heck ,i might even try to get the H1N1 gig out of desperation ! Well , good luck to you . I hope you and i and all the the other new grads out there get something worth accepting !!!

Post here about your new grad hiring woes....
I passed my boards in Oct.,09 and still no job .Most of the lpn positions in my area (west central florida ) want 1 year or more experience . I am so frustrated i applied for 2 transporter positions this morning and am just curious to see if i get a reply. I figure its better than " NO JOB " and will open the door to network and make some connections in my area hospital .If anyone has any advice as to how to get through this "no experience barrior " i would appreciate . Thanks

lpn license florida sealed criminal record
Hi , i have 3 wks. of lpn school left and am preparing to apply for my Florida lpn license. I had a misdmeanor on my record from 1979 . I had the record sealed in 2006. Do I have to tell the Florida state board of nursing about this offence that "to my knowledge " , is no longer on my record ? If anybody know anything about this I would appreciate feedback ! Thanks !
