Great tips on how to land your first nursing gig
Great post! I graduate in August of 2010, and I just got my first position as a Patient Care Tech, basically NA. The nurse manager was very confident that this position would evolve into a RN position once I passed boards. My friend was able to get me in. My advice? Work HARD in nursing school, especially clinicals. Why? People will notice. My friend referred me because he knew that I would bust my hump at my new job. I don't miss class, I study hard for exams, and I make sure that I am doing as much as I am allowed during my clinical rotations. Many people say that the nursing school experience is overrated for when it comes to finding a job. Maybe, but it worked for me. Bottom line = if you work hard, people will quickly realize your value, and that's what it's all about.

Doctors tend to over look things that sometimes a nuse can see
i hate to be "that guy", but considering the title of your thread, you really should spell the word "nurse" correctly.

Will I ever get into Nursing School???
do you have a source for this little tidbit? i sure see this thrown around an awful lot, and until i see something concrete to back it up, i will continue to assume it's conjecture. judgemental, hackneyed conjecture, at that.

I stink so bad Mcallen, TX doesn't even want me.
if the "worst hospital in the world" won't even take you, that just means that a much, much better facility out there WILL give you a chance. i know how cliche it is, but keep your head up. if you are willing to relocate, you will find something. HANG IN THERE!

Nursing prerequisites vs. nursing school - degree of difficulty?
if organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, A & P, and microbiology are all required prereqs for you (as they were for me @ my school), then i would definitely say that prereqs are harder.

help me pick my career plz
If you don't mind hard work, nursing school should not be too difficult. I don't know anything about other patients "looking down" on nurses. The profession is much, much different than it was 20 years ago.

Where are all the nurses?
HA! Please, honey, feel free to speak for yourself. CapeCod, thank you for advertising your willingness to take on new grads. Many of us just feel hopeful hearing stuff like that.
